Last Sunday there was another GPT. I already have 3 byes but still wanted to go for practice and help out friends by conceding if necesarry. Wim also went as did Jan as usual. This time, Chris also joined in. Chris just drafts and plays standard but borrows a deck to play Legacy when a GP comes around. Wim played Imperial Painter, Jan went with Dredge this time after 1-3 with DD and 0-2 with Hypergenesis while Crhis opted for Reanimator.
The tournament started at 11.00 so I leave to pick up Wim at 9.30. We arrive at 10.20. I enrol, walk downstairs to buy some food and drinks and notice Jeroen buying cards. Apparently he'll be playing the same list as I and is still searching for some cards. I call Jan but he doesn't have them on him and he's already on the way. Jeroen orders his cards and I check if they finally have Massacre. They have five! I buy all 5 for 1 euro a piece, split them with Jan who also buys a Golgari Thug.
My list remains the same as last time.

I walk around some more to check who's attending and see Raf still sleeving his deck. He's playing UW Miracle and I notice Meddling Mage and Spell Pierce in the sideboard. I also see a lot of unfamiliar faces and more regular players. A total of 46 players are attending so 6 rounds of swiss and then top8!
Round1:
Yup, I have to play against Raf. UW Miracle it is.
Game1:
He opens with Island SDT and passes. I do the same. He uses it during his upkeep, land drop, pass. I do the same. He draws for his turn, plays a land and passes again. I play more cantrips during my turn and set everything up for the next turn. He casts an Enlightened Tutor during my EOT and finds Counterbalance. I Silence during his upkeep and get the turn. I feel that I have to go off and try but my last spell gets countered by a FoW he finds with SDT. Counterbalance lands and he uses a Wasteland on my Tundra. Counterbalance with Wastelands, the joy! I draw my card and pass. Not a lot happens until he drops a Jace and draws some cards. He does this for three turns and then I see a line of play.
I tap SDT, cast Chain of Vapor on it to bounce. He thinks and lets it resolve. I sacrifice a land to copy it on his CB. I confirm with a judge that CB does not trigger on the copy of CoV, it doesn't. He tries Spell Pierce for which I pay and CB goes back. I then cast Dark Ritual. He checks with SDT, fetches, checks again and finds a Counterspell. I lose. I could've gone Ritual, Infernal Tutor for another Ritual, cast both from my hand into Tendrils for lethal. The Counterspell got me.
Game2:
I mulligan and keep a no lander with enough action once I find a land. I do find a land but it's a non-basic, Wasteland takes it out soon after. I never find a land again.
0-1
Jan won, Wim lost, Chris lost.
Round2:
I'm paired against Wim! Imperial Painter it is.
Game1:
I open with fetch into Island for Ponder. He casts Painter for blue, removes Spirit Guide and uses Pyroblast to kill my Island. I can't piece together my combo fast enough before he finds Grindstone and kills me.
Game2:
There's some disruption from his end with a Blood Moon and Pyroblast but I already have Island and Plains. I go for Ad Nauseam, fall low and have to pass the turn and kill him the turn after.
Game3:
Wim mulligans down to 5 and is never really in the game. I cast turn4 Ad Nauseam for a load of cards and just kill him after losing some life. Then there was some discussion about the 7 cards he mulliganed. I can't recal the hand but it was doable to keep, just not a certainty. It had Pyroblast, Revoker and another card as action with mana to cast those.
1-1
Jan lost. Chris lost.
Round3:
As I sit down I recognize the player. He was seated next to me last round and is playing burn.
Game1:[/B][/B]
I do some setting up while I get hammered by a Goblin Guide. Hellspark Elemental joins the fray the turn after and I fall to 13. Next turn he Unearths but I cast Chant with kicker. The game is over once I get the turn thanks to Infernal Tutor into Burning Wish for Ill-Gotten Gains.
Game2:
I had a turn2 kill with Ill-Gotten Gains, not much to do against with Burn.
2-1
Jan lost, Chris won, lost track of Wim but I think he lost.
Round4:
I have to play against a player from last week. He played Esperblade then and I put him on the same deck now. I was correct.
Game1:
This game isn't very long. Not a lot of action from his end and I can finish the game rather quickly with Doomsday.
Game2:
This game goes very long, partially due to wrong sideboarding from my end. Normally Esperblade doesn't play Wasteland and Doomsday into Emrakul is a solid plan. But his list does play Wasteland which I should've remembered. So my openingshand of SDT, Doomsday, Doomsday, Burning Wish, Volcanic, Fetch, Fetch suddenly becomes worse of a hand. Especially after turn1 discard taking my SDT. But Esperblade is Esperblade, no pressure. More discard follows and Doomsdays and the Burning Wish are gone soon after. Some pressure finally occurs plenty of turns later with Stoneforge Mystic into Batterskull. But it takes 2 turns to set this up, yet again giving me time. One hit and no attack with the Stoneforge. I go into the thinking tank during my turn, why doesn't he attack with Stoneforge? Does it run 2 Batterskull? What if it's SoFaF? I decide to go for it, Silence, Pierce, pay. I win through IGG-loop.
3-1
Round5:
Don't know the opponent so no ide what he was playing. It was UR Delver.
Game1:
I open with Fetch into Island for SDT. Opponent opens with Volcanic into Delver. I cast Brainstorm and find no land but can go for Ad Nauseam at 19 life by putting back Infernal on top, cast Petal, LED, LED and swap for Infernal. I do so and die to my own Ad Nauseam. I lost this game myself though as I also had Burning Wish. I could've gone for Empty the Warrens for 12 tokens and it would also play around Daze. I missed the better play and lost because of it.
Game2:
My deck allows me to make up for my mistake. Flooded Strand, Silence, Petal, Petal, LED, LED, Burning Wish. Turn1 14 tokens with protection. Opponent scoops.
Game3:
Game 3 is a bit closer. I mulligan down to 6 and opponent opens with Delver. I cast Ponder and it gets Dazed. Delver flips by revealing Bolt and I get hit for 3. No extra land for my opponent. I just play a fetchland and pass, knowing he'll play Bolt and I can resolve Brainstorm around Spell Pierce, Red Blast or other cards. He does indeed and I respond with Brainstorm which finds me the cards I need. I get hit for 3 again. Chant the next turn, resolves and I kill him with Doomsday.
4-1
Round6:
I'm 7th. 8 players have 12 points or more and Raf is at 10 points with better resistance. I do draw though. The 8th player, Baptist, has to play it out against player 6 so I can draw into top8 without any problems.
4-1-1
Baptist was losing with RUG Delver against Maverick. Raf lost his game though and Baptist gets informed about this, he draws. Just for reference, it is not allowed as a bystander to say the result of another match to a competing player. This can change the outcome of matches as it did now. What happened was against the rules.
Top8 consists of RUGDelver, Maverick, Merfolk, Death and Taxes, Burn, RUGDelver, Dredge and myself.
I'm paired against Burn. My next round opponent will be Maverick or Merfolk. RUGdelver is facing off against Ichorid and the other one against Death and Taxes.
QF:
I went to school with this player. I know he's not a solid player but it's burn, how good must you be to be casting Lightning Bolts? It was not announced that the higher standing player got to pick so a diceroll decided that I will play first.
Game1:
I open with Ponder, pass the turn. I get Bolted down to 16. I cast Brainstorm and set up the next turn kill. I get Lava Spiked and Bolted. I cast fast mana, play Burning Wish cracking LED's, discarding another Wish from my hand. IGG, gets mana back to my hand and the 2nd Wish for the lethal Tendrils. IGG 3 - Burn 0
Game2:
Opponent opens with Lava Spike. I cast Ponder. Opponent plays land and passes, I just think about Pyroblast but have no issue with that so I cast Brainstorm which resolves. He pauzes me on my fetch and casts Runflare Trap followed by a 2nd. 12 damage hurts! Again, he passes the turn back after doing nothing. On the end of my turn I get a Price of Progress directed at me. I fetch down to 3 for a basic, take 2. But a Bolt on his turn ends game2.
Game3:
Opponent mulligans down to 6. I set up my hand slowly. Get bolted turn1, so interesting. Turn2 more setup. Get Lava spiked and no land drop. I go off with Doomsday, end game!
Maverick is still playing against Merfolk, being 1-0 up. RUGDelver lost against D&T while the second RUGDelver is 1-1 against Ichorid.
SF:
Maverick won 2-0 against Merfolk. RUGDelver goes through after defeating Ichorid with 2-1.
Game1:
I open with Ponder. Opponent casts turn1 Mother. I cast Silence during my opponents next upkeep, setting up for the kill next turn. I get attacked to 18 by Mother. I cast Ad Nauseam, fall down to 4, play Petal and discard to 7. I Silence once more, get attacked to 3. I play probe, see nothing relevant but still can't go off. I play some more cantrips, Silence again. Dryad Arbor puts me at death next turn. So I use Orim's Chant this time and stay at 2. Four Timewalks, sure! I then go off after fetchign down to 1 through IGG-loop.
Game2:
My opponent is on the play and does nothing but pass the turn. I put him on Mindbreak Trap. I play land, pass. Opponent does it again. I play fetch, cantrip, pass. Opponent plays Dryad Arbor, go. I cast Silence, LED, LED, Ritual, Doomsday for SDT, LED, LED, Probe, BW. Petal allows me to cast the Ideas Unbound in my hand, crack LED and finish him off.
Finals:
Baptist won against D&T after a 1-1 and the final game being decided by D&T mulliganing down to 5, keeping a no lander and losing. I concede to Baptist, we split the prize, both getting 125 euro.
We then go and get something to eatand discuss volleybal tactics, positions and ballsports during dinner. I get home around 21.30, satisfied to see the result from last tournament to be repeated, Doomsday is still strong!
