There is no way I am the only one brewing now that Land Tax is unbanned. I have just been thinking of the most fun and best implication for this card in legacy.
What is land tax good at? Board stalls. Slow card advantage. Being abused.
Sounds familiar.
This is the shell which I find is a good place to start:
2-4 Land Tax
2-4 Standstill
4 Sensei's Diving Top
2-4 Counterbalance
4 Brainstorm
2-4 Terminus
2-4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
The reason for only running two of each of the enchantments is that multiple copies serve no function, really ever. This deck will need to have some reach against creature decks, so Terminus will give this deck that push. Standstill and CB/Top are both easily broken in the right context and in this deck, they have the possibility to slow the game down to nothing.
In this metagame though you need a way to beat combo decks.
2-3 Vendilion Clique
4 FoW
2-4 Spell Pierce
0-2 Counterspell
These are all possibilities. I think in a straight UW Shell the deck would look something like this:
3 Land Tax
3 Standstill
4 Sensei's Divining Top
3 Counterbalance
4 Brainstorm
3 Jace
2 Clique
4 FoW
4 Spell Pierce
3 Terminus
2 Counterspell
1 Entreat the Angels
4 Mishras Factories
2 Tundra
4 Flooded Strand
4 Scalding Tarn
1 Karakas
7 Island
2 Plains
this is a very rough list. CB/Top might not be right here. Maybe this deck can't do enough, and there are many other cards I want to put in. and many other places I want this deck to go, including running black for cards like Bloodghast, which is an abusable threat with Land Tax. The lack of Swords to Plowshares has to be wrong. All that aside, however, I feel like a deck like this has potential to diversify the metagame a lot. Land Tax is a powerful effect. How do we make this deck work?
Please, share your thoughts! Make this idea a reality.
