I'll be moving to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to go into mathematics graduate school, and was curious to know about the Magic scene. Legacy would be nice, but if there's a store around that does limited or EDH that would be fun too. Thanks in advance for any help.

Been living in Milwaukee for about 2 years.
Games Universe and Pink Bunny Games are the only 2 stores worth messing with if you are competitive.
GU usually has 30ish people for FNM (standard), they have Legacy on Wednesday, Limited on Tuesday, and usually max out capacity for pre-releases.
Pink Bunny is a rather new store but is quickly building a following. They have Standard FNM guaranteed box and additional prizes after I think 10 people join. Legacy is on Sunday but it's still in the beginning stages and hasn't built a solid base yet. They run draft every Friday alongside FNM and all night and whenever enough people will pay to play. They do some EDH thing on Saturday but I don't play EDH so I don't follow it. Pink Bunny is probably the go to store for singles as the owner is an Ebay and event dealer and has a huge stock.
Also worth noting is Xtreme Games which is about an hour drive south of Milwaukee. They have monthly Legacy and 10proxy Vintage on weekends and lots of Standard events with pretty good prize support. They basically have a tournament of some consequence every Saturday and Sunday.
Avoid Anime Fan Zone if you know whats good for you. There is a Hobbytown USA that does FNM that is not bad but it's farther away and not as good as GU or Pink Bunny.

I can't speak for GU but PBG I have started going to recently. I just moved into the area and from my experience there it has been fairly positive. If you wana get together and test Legacy (anyone) lemme know. ATM I don't have a job because I leave for basic in a little while so whenever works for me.

Board Game Barrister at Bayshore Town Center runs Standard FNM and there's almost always 1-4 competitive Legacy players there and then EDH goes down after FNM. Saturday is open for whatever, so if you amd a buddy want to test, the space is there.

Isn't the FNM there Draft? I remember asking them about FNM and thinking the prize support was terrible and never ended up going, is it actually worth it?

Silver Spring Games and Hobbies is FNM Draft with fantastice prize support. Board Game Barrister is FNM Standard, no cost to enter, so there's only foiled/promo cards given to all players.... I only go for the Legacy guys; I have Reanimator, RUG Delver, Miracle Control, Junk, Goblins, while other guys jave Maverick, RUG Delver, Elves, Team America Control, Nic Fit, Dredge, Affinity, Merfolk.

You should really try to get those guys to either come to GU on Wednesday or Pink Bunny on Sunday for Legacy. I was at Pink Bunny today and I didn't bring my Legacy deck because I assumed everyone would be doing the prerelease and there were 4 people playing Legacy.
I don't recommend Silver Springs for FNM. The payout is good but it's also what like $18 to enter. I have gone there from time to time for midnight prerelease though but now that other stores have started to offer that I don't see going there over Pink Bunny or GU. Silver Springs is okay and the owner is nice enough, but it's a hobby store first, a boardgames/Warhammer/miniatures store second, and a Magic store only as an afterthought.

Well, just got to Milwaukee today and moved most of my stuff in. I'll probably try heading to one of the game stores this upcoming week. Thanks again for the help!

Hey guys,
Like the person that started this post, I just moved to Milwaukee (South) and I'm looking for a group or serious players to test with for SCG opens and local CHI/Mad-Town/Mil tournaments. I'd like to hit a semi major event (40+ people) every weekend. I don't really like going to game stores randomly on the off chance a person will be there who could initiate me into a new group for these things. Did anyone want to arrange a meeting at a game store or other location? That works better for me. Anyway, thanks for all the people that posted. Great info! Take care and have fun!

There are semi-regular Legacy tournaments in Baraboo. Bit of a drive from Milwaukee, but not too bad from Madison where I live. I can't vouch for the turnouts or field, since I've never been. I just borrow cards for major events, so most of the time, I don't have any cardboard to play with. But I was there for a 1k Standard a few weeks ago with ~40/50 people, so I imagine the turnout and support is decent.
Anyone from Milwaukee going to be heading up to Minnesota for the SCG Labor Day weekend?

I don't live near there, but I deal with Pink Bunny games all the time. He does give excellent trade in as compared to most dealers. I live in Michigan and I will make the trip to him if I know he's at a show and I plan to drive over to Wisconsin when I cash in larger items that make the trip worth it.
Plus, Damien is a pretty nice guy anyway. I can see that store doing well in the future.

Is there anybody that is near the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee that drives to Games Universe for Legacy on Wednesdays? I'd love to go, but it's actually impossible for me to take bus there and back from the University because after 9:00pm there is no return trip until 6:00am. If so maybe we could work some carpool out, I would appreciate it. Let me know on this thread or you can send me a message. Thanks!
EDIT: Bus Route 28 seems to be the problem after 9:00pm, which is the route that just runs north/south along 108th street. If I could get dropped off about 2 miles north on Oklahoma Ave (~5 min drive), I could finish the rest of the trip by bus.
