After having a dose of Island art discussion in the Spiral Tide thread and a dose of beta P9 images in the Pimp thread I found myself looking at the new alternate art dual land pictures on some website. I always loved the Vintage champs alternate Moxen and the new Time Walk but looking at these new dual lands I really longed for some actual promo cards with these arts on them. I know it won't and can't happen (see the reserved list policy) but I wished it would and could. Not to have cheap versions of expensive, out of reach cards but to have the beautiful promo versions. I don't mean to start another bitching on reprints but it would be insane to have a From the Vault: Power, From the Vault: Duals packs with a hefty price tag on with alternate art versions of these cards.

Without further rant on reprints please see the arts for yourself and see where I'm coming from.

Edit: I already have all my blue duals and FoWs so I'm really writing this for the beautiful new art.

Yes, we need to talk about reprints some more. Woulda Coulda Shoulda. Yeah it would be neato to have alternate art if they didn't all suck, which they do. It's also not going to happen anytime in the near future.

Sorry, had to get that out of my system before a bunch of communist cry babies spam complaints about being unable to purchase expensive cards for their non mandatory hobby.

I'll bet you could commission an artist to paint those on some cards.

I hope it's on blank cards or some Russian trash, I'd hate to see yet another set of ruined P9.

Looking forward to that post on the alternate art thread.

This. And exactly this.

Just to emphasize a point if it wasn't clear enough, I don't call for reprints of these cards with the new art for accessibility issues. I am lucky enough to already have my Legacy playables. I want the new art cards as promos for purely collectible/casual reasons.

I just saw the duals on MTGO with new art and old borders and got pissed off because I can see Wizards giving online players the goodies, new art etc. while leaving us empty handed. What's the point in comissioning these alternate arts if you are not going to get those cards into the "hands" of players.

Edit: I'm scared of writing this but, what's a promo release of all this stuff going to do to the price of staples anyway if that's scaring the collectors? They printed a bunch of Sol Rings (with terrible new art btw) but the Beta ones are still pulling a nice $100 price tag. I'm sure each card in that box would get worse than Scavenging Ooze very quickly (price-wise) and it will mean nothing for the market saturation.

Dude ... the horse is dead. It's Broponies cardboard ... he can use it as a tampon if he so chooses.

There's a large number of ruined P9 out there excluding the Pony9 - looking at you Europe.

What we need is a silver/gold bordered set with all these reserve list cards. Preferably with foils, so we could use them in EDH decks, cube, etc.

Would not mind at all.

What's stopping people from making proxies and playing those same casual formats?

Nothing. Whiners will always whine.

So why do you bother? Or whine about whiners...

Anyways, actually I though about the high profile proxies 'cause I've seen some really impressive ones unfortunately I'm lacking the skills to photoshop and print those high quality proxies and people who can do that are against distributing them for reasons I don't understand. It's still an option I consider to pursue but I'd much rather have them "officially".

Read (http://www.wizards.com/WPN/News/Article.aspx?x=20111214_CounterfeitAnnouncement) and FWIW I will continue to "whine" (poke fun at) all the "whiners" (communists and cry babies) as long as they continue to beat to death this already settled (http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/article.aspx?x=magic/products/reprintpolicy) issue.

:really: I don't see any crying on this thread except this:

Pony alters FTW!

Btw, there's nothing about availability issues here so you might just move along. I just don't appreciate Wizards coming up with goodies (and with old borders!) for the online players but not for the rest of us who prefer to hold the cards, put them in binders, and look, shuffle, organize them while watching TV, killing time...

Weren't these duals were only available in the MTGO Cube? As far as I know, they couldn't actually keep those beautiful cards. For all intents and purposes, it was like they borrowed them for the duration of those tournaments.

I'm not really sure as I don't play online. I came across them while browsing MTG videos on YouTube, I think I was watching some guys draft and then saw the U.Sea with the new art but old border. What's the point in teasing us?

If I could somehow achieve the weight of a Magic card, I'd do white-backed proxies for my decks.

Of course magic is an expensive and completely optional hobby, but you're crazy if you believe your format isn't dying from lack of reprints of power and other restricted list cards.
