In the last tournament, I played against a guy, he had tundras that did not seem right to me (the black inner borders, inside of the white borders seemed to be fuzzy, and the card looked very faded, to the point where the text box coloring was almost gray.). I was unsure what to do about it- I didn't want to call a judge, because i had no idea if i was right or not about the card being a fake. I beat him anyways, but i was wondering, what should i have done?

Edit: I'm talking about revised tundras. (It had the T symbol on it)

In case of doubt: call a judge. It's that simple.

But in case you're a bit unsure, you can tell your opponent that you think his cards are looking a bit strange, and whether he objects to you calling a judge to be certain there's nothing wrong with them (You are always allowed to call a judge, so if he doesn't want a judge to look at his cards, you should be suspicious, and definately call the judge).

Assuming it was fake, what happens here?

I agree with Crazy Eddie, in case of doubt, call a judge. If they are real cards he shouldn't have a problem with a judge checking them.

If they were fake, What would the judge do?

Depends. If the judge thinks the opponent is intentionally playing fake cards probably a DQ.

If it's intentional, it's just cheating and a DQ.

If it's not intentional, I think the judge would probably treat it like a unplayable damaged card and give them a chance to find a replacement copy?

You could probably try to ask him if his Tundras are misprinted, and gauge how he reacts. If he brushes it off and says yeah, ask to see them -- that should give you a good enough idea whether to call a judge or not.

If they're fake, the head judge investigates.

If the player didn't know the cards were fake, they must be replaced with real cards or the player must drop from the tournament. The player recieves a game loss for an illegal deck. The head judge might ask the player's permission to confiscate and destroy the fakes.

If the player did know the cards were fake, they're getting DQed and almost certainly suspended. A kid I caught and DQed at a weekly legacy using clipped CE duals got suspended, Wizards takes fakes very seriously.

What an idiot. CE Tundra's are listed for E49,99 and the cheapest Revised Tundra is listed for E65,-. Why waste your money on cards that aren't tournament legal if you're gonna try and cheat with them, instead of spending 15-20 euro's more on real ones and save yourself the trouble. I guess he badly wanted to come across as a baller with Beta duals.

How did you catch him?

Edit: A CE Badlands is even more expensive than a Revised one, lol.

This was probably 6 or 7 years ago, when WB duals could be had as low at $10. He wanted to look pimp with the black borders I suspect. A sharp opponent noticed the clipped corners and called me - using fakes against legacy players is maybe not the best idea, a lot of them know what real cards look like.

To my knowledge judges do not have to have permission to confiscate the fakes, but we do have to send to WotC.

But as a judge I've luckily never been in that situation.

Read your quote very carefully. It says that he ASKS PERMISSION to confiscate them.
