Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody would be interested in joining an online playtesting group that runs Magic Workstation. I know mwsplay is available, but the caliber of the players along with the randomness of the decks that is there makes it poor for playtesting. I also know MODO is pretty good, but I don't want to shell out money for both paper and online Legacy.
If you're interested, please post here, and we can start contacting each other via pm and exchanging Skype or gmail or some other contact info. Another helpful thing would be to give your time zone/restraints. I'm on the east coast (EST) and I'm in school, so I'm fairly flexible.

Can we consider using Cockatrice (for us cross-platform users)?
I'm definitely interested if people would be willing to not use MWS as grad school makes traveling to events quite difficult but I'd still love to play some games with competent opponents.
Another forum is currently organizing a Vintage tournament over Cockatrice and I was thinking about creating a thread here about it. Maybe we can do something similar about both Legacy and Vintage so instead of just bouncing off ideas we can also form playtesting groups and/or have tournaments. I'd be definitely be up for it.

I'm in for a legacy and vintage tournament. Actually I'm craving for some more testing in both formats before an upcoming huge event I'll have in 3 weeks.

A tournament might be rather difficult due to conflicting schedules... I often play trials and masters at magic-league.com, so that's one potential place for practice. If people are interested and times work out though, I'd be happy to plan one. I'd also think we need at least 16 people to make it somewhat worthwhile.
As far as cockatrice vs. MWS, I'm sure you can negotiate that with your practice partner. I'm going to create a group and send out an email once we have a few more posts.
One way to establish a tournament could be determining the players and the matches first. Then each player will communicate with their opponent to schedule a time to play the match and report in the score. You'll have 2 days (just making it up) to play the match and report the score etc. Could be more like a league sort of thing.

Agreed - I love being able to play from my (apple) laptop instead of being chained to the desk!
I'm totally down to play either legacy or vintage, but as others have pointed out, scheduling can always be an issue. Perhaps allow 2-3 days for matches, and any incomplete matches are called a draw? Unfortunately, there's no really fair way to do it, since either player can claim it's the other's fault for not showing up.
Also, if we'd like to do a tournament style, we'd need some way of keeping decks the same across rounds. I know Cockatrice has a feature where the hash of any deck is visible to all - does MWS offer a similar feature?
I'd be down for both Legacy and Vintage using Cockatrice.

Cockatrice events giving ~one week for round are easily doable and fun - one week basically guarantees that each match should get played no matter how conflicting schedules or timezones are.
Of course, OP asked for a playtesting group, but since the suggestion was given, I'm totally for Source Legacy events :)

Hi all,
I don't use Cockatrice, so if you guys want to organize something with that, by all means go ahead. I'm actually a judge now at magic-league.com, so if you see me in the channel and want to play Legacy or Modern tournaments, let me know and I'll make one!

I'd like to do some testing using MWS.
I am available whenever basically. It's unfortunately called being jobless.
Feel free to pm me anytime.
In for MWS or Cockatrice. I think it's better of to start off with play testing partners before we do an actual tourney. That way everyone gets used to being in contact with each other first.
I remember we did one before from the SCG forums. It was a one week per round. Everybody had to register their deck code prior to the start of the tourney for everyone to see to avoid changing mid-tourney. Price was braging rights.

This sounds really dumb but how do you test over skype using paper cards?
