Basically, but I've become acquaintances with a few other players. I'm not a very social person by nature so that doesn't help.

Seriously, I know what you're talking about. When I moved to another city to study, only like 5% of the playerbase had ever been to a DCI sanctioned tournament outside local 8-man FNMs. Because of that, I started attending tournaments alone and came back to tell all the exciting stories that happened. We gradually got into playing more competitively. At some point, a person expressed interest in joining me. When he came back and also liked the tournament scene, even more people started following me to tournaments despite the 3h train ride.

You can't imagine how proud I was when after 2 years, they actually started attending tournaments without me leading the way for them. I felt like I had actually changed some people's (Magic)lifes :smile:

Almost none of my friends play Magic; if they do, it's rarely Legacy. So this was never a consideration for me.

That being said, I've made quite a few friends at our local LGSes since many Legacy players in the area are awesome people. I don't generally contact them before going, but I can expect many of them to be there.

Yeah what happens is you generally start seeing the same group of guys going to the same tournaments you do. Then you start making small talk and that leads to grabbing food before/after the tournament. Years later all of the sudden you're like "fuck, I have friends."
