After the date change I won't be attending this event. This is the same day as another event that was posted before this one, with lower entry fee, historically better prizes (final prizes haven't been announced yet, but they are always great value) and better judging.

Two events on the same day typically leads to poor turnouts and reduced prize pools.

How will the prize pool be adjusted/changed if there are less than 30 entrants?

I have to second this. I would love to attend this event, as I've always loved attending events at MTGDeals, but there was already a Legacy Tournament scheduled for this day in Studio City.

This doesn't seem good for either shop.

I thought we went over this last year?

Fourth'd.

I wanted to go to this before the date change, but I won't miss a Knight Ware staples event. Why not postpone this for a week so everyone can enjoy both tournaments?

The prize pool will not change. Also, we are not expecting to get more than 30 people.

So I take it you guys are not budging? That can't seem like a good compromise for attendance. Instead of taking a huge loss on the tournament by running it the same day as Knight Ware, you can run it the week after and have a huge successful tournament. I'm not sure why you guys are so stubborn as to NOT move the date to a free weekend.

This tournament was originally scheduled on the 14th which was perfect considering the Legacy SCQ IQ at the Monstore was on the 7th and Knightware is gonna be on the 21st, BUT due to some scheduling error the person in charge forgot to put the 2 Grand Prix into consideration (San Jose and Philadelphia on the 14th and 27th respectively, yes that means MTGDEALS WILL BE AT BOTH GPs, SELL US YOUR $H1T PLEASE! *end of shameless self promotion.) So the only possible time to run the tournament in October is on the 21st. We can't do it on Saturday which is the 20th because a Yugi-Oh tournament has already been scheduled in advance. It's unfortunate that this is happening but there's nothing we can do about it. We will make every effort to smooth out our scheduling in the future. One more thing, please refrain from making any shenanigans comments on this thread. Thanks!

Edit: Also, the guy who's doing video coverage for the top 8 only has 1 day open this month which is the 21st.

You are clueless.

@MTG Deals,
Not meaning to bash - just concerned about all the SoCal stores trying to one-up each other with tournaments booked on the same day. Everyone wins when we all cooperate on scheduling.

Must be a nice problem to have!

Charles would go to a Grand Prix and the store would run a legacy event in the past. It makes sense not to have it during the semi local GP, but how many employees are not flying out to Philadelphia?

Must be a nice problem to have!

It actually isn't. It means there is really only one event to go to over a two week period, and it makes it harder for stores to organize events because the turnout is worse. And if you have one friend going to one store, but two going to the other, which one do you go to?

So as long as there are 8 people, the tournament will run and the prize pool will be as above?

Yes no matter what the turnout is all cards will be given out.

I just want to come out and explain whats going on with MTG Deals and it's events.

First off we have changed the person who is in charge of all of our events and we hope that we will rarely have any conflicting tournaments in the future.

I also want to say that the conflicts in scheduling are not planned on purpose. These events are based off of our schedule and our schedule only. With as many tournaments that are going on in Southern California as well as at MTG Deals, it is impossible not to run an event the same time as another store. We are trying to appease our local players as well as all of the truly faithful legacy players that travel from far away. I wish that we can run events where the date works for everyone however other factors are considered when we plan tournaments. Some of the factors that don't allow us to change the dates for events include; availability of staff and judges, timetable for our camera man, allocation of cards, dates of other MTG Deals events (including Yu Gi Oh), and the grand prix/TCG player calendar. I hope everyone understands and if you have any questions or comments please ask me directly.

Thanks
Charles

This tournament ran smoothly and as advertized.

Quite frankly there is no other store I would rather play at in the area.

Shocking that you had a good experience given that you won. It was cool though that we got to play the event and also watch the PT coverage on the television.

Tournament ran very smoothly, and they held their word to run it.

Extremely satisfied with the guys at the store, would definitely recommend this place for LA Legacy players.

Very curious what the turnout was with KW having the their regularly scheduled monthly tournament on the same day.
