It's about that time of the year for one of my favorite Source activities.

1...2...3...Not it!

Just wanted to get people thinking about it. It typically takes about a month to get everyone on-board and then another month or so to get packages mailed out in time to arrive by X-Mas.

Mods can take this post down when the real one starts up.

Basically I write stupid stuff all year long just because I'm waiting for this. Obviously I'm in!

I was in the last two so I guess it is ;).

I would be in, but I don't have the time to actually run it. If I did, I would volunteer.

I don't have the time to run it either, but I still want to send someone something VERY nice :P

As new to the community, and the first I'm hearing of this...

What's the deal? I know how a secret santa works in an office, but do we mail each other some junk rares for lol's or...?

Cheers,
interested, although I prefer Festivus

I like how people are trying to get into an event that might not even happen. The OP isn't, "Who wants to join this?", but, "Who wants to run this?"

android, how much work is involved? How much time did you spend on this last year, and how long past Christmas did it end up dragging out? Some details would be nice.

how much work is involved?

I haven't ever run something like this before, and please don't take this to be insulting as to the amount of work that was put in previous years or as me volunteering to run this, but it seems pretty straightforward.

Collect the names of those involved by a cut-off date.
Randomise them into pairings (possibly with geographical considerations)
Ship out the names to each person
Get confirmations of sent/recieved packages from both parties
???
Profit

I'm wondering about how much time is involved, though. If it's not too much hassle, I might volunteer to run the North American side of things and let a European run Europe or "non-North America" depending on how many people want to participate from other regions.

Also, now that I think about it, a 100 message limit for PMs seems inadequate for this kind of thing, but eh.

I wouldn't mind to organize the European/non North America side, since during November I'll be off work the full month and I'll have plenty of spare time.

I'd really like to join in on this aswell, all tho i don't think i'm fit for organizing (from europe).
But what exactly would i be expecting? Is it just mailing around some random stuff you think someone else would be happy with?

Im definitely in again!

@the people who are new to this: Later we post wishlists, get assigned a person at random, and generally mail like 25$+ of cards you think the person would like, although some people get really generous (search up the 2011 bragging thread). Also, in the past people organizing have had random contests and door prizes for other gifts. Its always a fun time and the community here usually puts a lot of work in to it.

Fortunately/unfortunately the person I get is going to know who it is right away

Okay, since kiblast has volunteered for the non-North American end of things, I'll run the NA side. I'll be putting up a post later today for people to officially register. Can we get a mod to lock this thread?
