This flood in the east coast probably killed off several thousand dual lands and other cards on the non-reprint list.
How many of you would actually pack your deck during an evacuation?

I would. My collection is worth more $ than most of my other personal effects, so I don't see why I wouldn't take the valuable cards with me.

Several thousand? That's an exaggeration, the entire coast isn't full of water, just a small part of it. Besides, most Legacy decks are worth more than a laptop, and most people would pack their laptop because it's portable and valuable (just like a magic deck).

Given the fact that practically the entire east coast was aware of this storm days before it occurred, I would imagine anyone who plays competitive Legacy (or Magic, for that matter) that needed to evacuate the area - including retailers - probably made sure that their belongings were taken care of before the storm hit.
Otherwise, I would suspect minimal to no loss of staples like duals being lost in this mess.

true hollywood, but the people who don't really play, the cards that are lost in shoe boxes.
Those probably got destroyed.

I doubt it. People had plenty of time to evacuate/pack their cards/valuables, and there haven't been many reports of buildings destroyed, so I'm going to assume that moveable valuables (be it collectibles, art, high end electronics) either were evacuated or packed to survive the storm. I don't see this event having a measuable impact on the supply of legacy staples.
The next few weeks will be a pain the ass for New Englanders, though.

Then that doesn't matter because they were already out of circulation, stuck in a shoe box and forgotten anyway.

I live in NYC and the area got hit well... really hard. I know some shops that have flooded but, like most good business, moved their product before the storms were coming. The mandatory Evac zones in NY all flooded over (which included some shops on the LES) but I doubt there was serious impact on cards/collection.
Oh and the PEOPLE ARE FINE TOO

Psh, we can always make more people.
Cards on the reserved list, however...

I know a couple people in flooded areas, of those that play magic, they took the most valuable parts of their collections with them because of how easy it is to find room for them. They may have lost some commons or uncommons, but none of them lost even a single actual deck. I would imagine the same is true of many people with valuable magic collections.
Regarding shoe-box collections. Well, they were locked away in shoe boxes, far from the hands of people who could make use of them anyway, so they were lost before the flood hit.
Some probably had their collections ruined, sometimes it can't be helped, but I doubt it would be so much that it actually has a relevant impact on the number of legacy stapled available to those of us still looking for them.

I was wondering if "reserved list" came to anyone's mind when they clicked on this thread. Seriously? (And no, I doubt thousands of dual lands were lost.)
Edit: Also, I'm sure that wasn't the first thing on OP's mind, but the title he chose just made the thread really awkward.

What's next?
People claiming that the Reserve List is responsible for murder (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?24924-Hide-your-pimp-cards!)?
Psh, we can always make more people.

I have tattoos....
Spoke to some store owners on Long Island and Lower Manhattan, they said everything is fine and safe. Stores are closed for a few days because of power outages but otherwise worry not, your dual lands are all safe... for now.

LOL at the whole shoebox thing. I'm just picturing pristine duals floating down the subways AND NO ONE EVEN KNEW WHAT WAS REALLY HAPPENING

So, high tide isn't just a deck, it's a real life event too? *wink wink*
-attempt #2-
It looks like high tide is so good it became a real life event
-attempt #3-
Does this mean that, High tide, wins on the east coast?
-attempt #4-
I guess both the east coast and last weeks open event really went out with a, storm
-attempt #5-
I suppose both in real life, and in magic, high tide, takes too long either way!

I heard the phrase "high tide" a lot in the news and it kept making me think of Magic.

I posted this at MTGS Legacy Tournament:
It was good accelerating games. It's funny how right after we finished our matches, our power here went down. I guess even with Thalia, Judge's Familiar and Ethersworn Canonist; Sandy would just keep storming in.
