After failing horribly in my attempt to build a budget Misthollow Griffin+Food Chain deck, i´ve decided to let that idea rest in a shelf for some time. instead now i want to build a deck that can contain the two copies of Tibalt, The Fiend Blooded that got from a fatpack some time ago.
The +1 on Tibalt remind me of a very crappy Faithless Looting, wich isn´t that bad considering that in some decks I would really play with more than 4 copies of the loot. So how could I turn a random discard into a benefit? Squee, Goblin Nabob, and the entire Madness mechanic came to mind. And we all know that Mongrel and Walla are great friends with a lot of synnergy and history under they´r belt.
Rg Tibalt:
4_Copperline Gorge
3_Karplusan Forest
9_mountains
4_Forest
4_Kris Mage
4_Basking Rootwalla
4_Wild Mongrel
4_Squee, Goblin Nabob
3_Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
1_Anger
2_Reckless Wurm
1_Gathan Raiders
2_Tibalt, The Fiend Blooded
1_Rancor
3_Firebolt
4_Lightning Axe
4_Faithless Looting
3_Roar Of The Wurm
No SB yet.
I have no experience with Rg madness lists, however I did played with some Ug lists in the past, specially in pauper, so I knew that there is a thin line in deck building with this archetipe, and is not the line between aggro and control. Is the line between Madness enablers and Madness targets.
The enablers:
Kris Mage: Intriguing little fella, costs the same as Lavamancer, but deals half the damage. That´s not so good, however she let´s us play with the madness mechanic and can actually be cast more often than the Grim staple. kills MotR, unflipped Delvers, Cliques, Confidants, Lackeys, and many, many elves.
The Mongrel: a classic, one of the reasons why i chose green as a secondary color. Fast beater that enables free discards and dodges burn like a champ.
Jaya: She´s Kris mage on Steroyds, turn any card you have into an Incinerate, but also randomly hoses blue decks, and can also Inferno the board if the game drags long enough.
Gathan Raiders: Used to be more, but I found it to be very slow, and with the Squee´s getting hellbent isn´t that easy. Decent topdeck, but could be something else.
Tibalt: The reason why I made this deck. he is like the most underrated planeswalker ever printed, and I am an underdog at heart. The isn´t that terrible with all the Madness, Flashback, and Squee´s in the deck. The -4 is meh, but the -7 wins games (as any planeswalker´s ultimate actually). If left unchecked, getting to the -7 isn´t that hard, people really underestimate Tibalt. And, from time to time, they get punished for that.
Lightning Axe: Reminds me of Dismember. One mana and a card kill any non shrouded creature with a five-or-less toughness. Instant speed matters a lot.
Faithless Looting: Card advantage at the finest, just amazing.
Thatá 22 outlets, a third of the deck, and they all provide some form of control, aggro, or extra gas.
The fodder:
Basking Rootwalla: Mongrel´s best friend, the little lizard might not seem like much, but is fast, sometimes even free, and can deal a whole lot o damage for himself.
Squee: Card advantage with any discard outlet. Sometimes he can be a recurring chumpblocker if needed.
Anger: Just one because does nothing in multiples. maybe I can take out The singleton gathan Raiders and add another.
Reckless Wurm: His Arrogant cousin used to be a staple in the old Ug lists, however nowadays a 4/4 trample for 2g isn´t that impressive. Is the other candidate to leave the deck for future improvements.
Firebolt: Just a versatile card, kill a Delver or Deathrite, or discard it and flashback it in the late game.
Roar of the Wurm: Another nice discard. 6/6 might not fly, but with all the burn clearing the board it will make a precense anyways. favorite Rancor target.
Misc:
Rancor: Singleton, miser´s recurring pump and trample. Could be something else as well, but offers a way to deal with tiny blockers such as Bitterblossom´s tokens and Spirits.
In the near future, I´m thinking about taking out the Raiders, and Reckless Wurms and replace them with either 3 Life From The Loam or 3 punishing Fires . Both will need manabase adjustments to perform at they´r prime. But just can´t decide wich one is better. I´m leaning towards the Loam engine, but suggestions are really apreciated in the subject. Also opinions, SB ideas (Never faced true combo decks, but they feel like an autoloss), or constructed criticism are mostly welcomed.
