Cook’s Kitchen – ‘Murica (NELC: 02/02/2013) (http://jupitergames.info/articles/2013/52861/cooks-kitchen-murica-nelc-02022013)

It's kind of a report, more of an article.

Great article. Love the deck.

I made a long comment with tons of questions and thoughts on the deck on the blog post a few hours ago, but it seems Disqus lost the comment, since it disappeared... Oh well, I'm too annoyed to retype everything.

Try cutting Swords to Plowshares and Wasteland.

Add Path to Exile and Lightning Helix.

Try cutting Swords to Plowshares and Wasteland.

Add Path to Exile and Lightning Helix.

Path doesn't work well with Wasteland, Stifle, Daze or Spell Pierce. I'd much rather have them gain life than shut down 14-16 cards in my deck.

Ok, since my comment on the JupiterGames blog seems to be definitely lost, I'll re-write some of it here in a shorter form:

- this is a great article, and an awesome deck. It reminds me a little of David Gearhart's deck in this deck tech: http://www.starcitygames.com/events/coverage/deck_tech_uwr_delver_with_davi.html . I think Paolo Cesari played a similar deck at the NELC almost exactly one year ago, and 3 UWR decks made top 8: http://jupitergames.info/articles/2012/1142/february-11-2012-nelc-qualifier-top-8-decklists
- would Boros Charm cut it? It seems great as a way to protect your threats (e.g. save a Geist from a blocker, or save your creatures from Engineered Explosives / Supreme Verdict / Abrupt Decay). It also gives you more reach.
- Grim Lavamancer is indeed a good choice in a Deathrite Shaman filled meta. Snapcaster Mage is awkward when your opponent has an untapped DRS. Lavamancer's ability exiles the two cards as a *cost*, which means DRS can't make the ability fizzle by exiling a card in response. But you can do that if he tries to exile a card in your GY :) Also, Lavamancer kills the shaman :)
- would Stoneforge fit the deck, or is it too slow? Jitte / Swords are fun with Boros Charm for Double Strike.
- I love the synergy between Geist and Stifle. When you Stifle the "Exile that token at the end of combat" trigger, you get to keep the 4/4 Flying angel token around. This means Stifle is useful in the late game, when stifling opponent fetches is useless.
- I really want to fit Nivmagus Elemental + Flusterstorm in such a shell. Nivmagus + Boros Charm = BOOM. But I think I'm falling prey to the danger of cool things.

Then you cut them. Just port the Modern deck that won several PTQ's and the European GP.

It worked for Jund, so why not?

I think Fire/Ice or Forked Bolt would work better than Lightning Helix. 1/1 tokens are a thing and being able to pick off your opponent's spirit token defense, or tap down their goyf and swing with geist ftw is too alluring.

Interesting deck. I used to run something similar, but with Ponders over Stifle, and Snappy over Lavamancer (the latter tucked in the side).

I could never get it to work, but I might pick it up later, maybe the meta game is more suitable now than it was then, circa April/May of last year.

Dustin Taylor rocking 'Murica (UWR Delver) at SCG Edison. Looks like this thing might be catching on.

I tested the deck, though with a different manabase and a different (pseudo-transformational) sideboard and I really liked the deck, I might keep testing...

But.... the name is rather awful... to be honest... I don't mind any creative names... but Murica? C'mon.

Greetings

Blue, White, and Red are the colors of the French flag, actually. So the "Bizarro French" name that is used in the UWR Tempo thread seems better chosen :) But I'm biased, since I'm French. And I have no idea what "Bizzaro" means :)

I think I like "UWR Tempo".

They're also the colors of the Dutch and Luxembourg flag, and im sure there are more, so yeah, it is a crappy name :P

Here is his deck tech:

I think I like the Karakas more than the basic Island. It would have helped in the Sneak&Show matchup. Also lets you save Geist from a blocker.

Sulfur Elemental is interesting. Kills Lingering Souls token, and lets Geist attack for 8 (3/1 Geist + 5/3 Angel).

Love the eight 1 CMC answers to Deathrite Shaman this color combo enables. I'd prob cut the Plateau for the fourth Wasteland for sure.

The colors match the Russian flag as well and since people still believe we are soviet to the bone you might as well call this 'Bolshevik Tempo'.

We tested a similar deck like a year ago, something you didn't even mention in the article is the fact that you can Stifle the delayed Geist trigger and keep a 4/4 in play. Seems relevant.

I kind of like Murica for a name.
When I tried a build sort of similar to this I called it Dutch Tempo.
List was different though, and I never tested it well enough to try a tourney.
But this looks promising for sure!
