With all the livestream threads going on lately, I figured it might be a good idea to have discussion thread for the SCG Open events:
This weeks live stream. 279 Players duking it out. (http://www.starcitygames.com/events/130217_cincinnati.html)

I don't get it.
He had TWO Surgical Extractions in hand and there was a Hypergenesis in the graveyard. Did his brain go full-tilt to lose in a position like that?
Did others don't have the chat available on twitch.tv/scglive ?
End of the PT. I switched to SCG=> SnT player forgot Emrakul's annihilator trigger. Can we see real players?

I just saw dredge give it up to rug delver, what set are those cities of brass from? They looked like black border, non foil cities with the 5th/6th ed art.
Round 8 (Dredge vs RUG) was kinda retarded...
Examples:
RUG player has 3 lands, a flipped Delver and a small Mongoose in play and another Mongoose, Delver and a Lightning Bolt in hand. He chooses to play neither Delver nor Mongoose and ships the turn. His opponent (10 Life) brings back an Ichorid and has 3 Bridges in the GY. The RUG player then bolts his flipped Delver before dredging (!), to remove the Bridges.
The dredger names FoW with Cabal Therapy, after the RUG player shuffled away one after flipping Delver with it.
The commentators refuse to pay attention ("What did he flip the Delver with?", Dredger was looking at his GY all the time and they still don't recognize he is lacking dredgers and black creatures for Ichorid etc). At the end of the match Patrick says he is rooting for the RUG player, because he is young and played well.
:really:

The quality of Star City Games's feature matches is usually pretty bad. I can't tell you how many times I've tuned in to hear and read about all kinds of bullshit mistakes people have made. It's one thing to mess up once or twice, but generally it's a situation where people care more about being on camera and playing shitty as opposed to playing tight and not giving a damn whether they're on camera or not.
Once in a while you get a few good matches, but generally the play is poor and painful to watch. Inexperience is no excuse; if these players feel uncomfortable playing on camera then Star City should not be making these people look like fools for the world to see. They need to speak up and let them know if they can't handle or feel comfortable being on camera.

This current UW control mirror is painful. I've seen at least 3 huge misplays by each player so far.

Agreed. I do like the Mutavault version though with sprites and Resto Angels. Deck is cool, but yeah, I have seen a few glaring mis plays.

You mean beside being a control mirror, right? :P

I probably wouldve scooped a couple of turns prior... Maybe I give up too early but there way no way he was coming back...

No, I actually love playing and watching control mirrors personally. But watching people make mistakes on decisions that seem obvious to me is hard to watch. I'm certainly aware that its much easier to sit and home and say that, but I feel like I would have gotten those right.
I switched to the SouthFlorida stream during this match. Only ~50 viewers but the match was Junk vs. Turbo Eldrazi. And hardcasting Emrakul after being triple wastelanded was awesome compared to this awful mirror.

Better watch out for those Sapphire Medallions - who knows if they suddenly have a price spike.

Is Trix coming back? What's with the Medallions?

Nah, it was a blue control deck that brought back the Intuition + Accumulated Knowledge engine, with the interesting spin of recycling AKs with Snapcaster Mages for ridiculous amounts of card advantage.
Since this kind of engine costs tons of mana, the Medallions helped out quite a bit. T3 JMS isn't too shabby, either.
The engine was pretty interesting, but in the end, the deck fell short because it was monoblue and lacked outs against certain stuff. Would probably better if it splashed for another color.
