Horde Magic 2.0 – Introducing The Raid (http://www.quietspeculation.com/2013/02/horde-magic-2-0-introducing-the-raid/)
Pete wrote a follow up article for Horde Magic today. Horde Magic came out about a year ago (found here) and sort of blew up, receiving attention from the mothership and a bunch of players across the net.
In this article Pete introduces a new story-telling element to Horde Magic - The Raid. I haven't had a chance to play with The Raid yet, but I like the idea and I want to get some friends together and jam it out. :)
Anyone play Horde Magic?

Holy crap. I think this is an awesome idea.
I kind of want to take another look at Archenemy and see if there's a way to go more in the "Dungeon Master" direction.

It would be interesting to try an approach to Magic that favors a plotline and flavor over function.
I have to admit when I first saw The Horde, as excited as I was for a unique Magic variant I found that it was just too easy to think of cards that just wreck the format. It isn't that I wanted to turn it on its head, I just kept thinking of things that completely fuck shit up, pretty much on accident. While I am heavily interested in EDH, the people I play it with have no compunction about playing broken shit, so a banned list that covers all the bases is sort of implicitly necessary. And it just seems like The Horde lends itself to a really, really big one.
I've seen it suggested with other formats that want to service flavor and fantasy over raw power, so I figured I would throw it out here; instead of a banned list, what do you think of a deckbuilding "point system" to keep power levels in check? As long as we're stealing from D&D heh, the idea being that you can't just max all the stats; you only have X points to spend, and a certain card or card type/rarity/whatever is worth so many points. Something generic enough that doesn't require a list 20,000+ cards long and serves as a starting point for deck construction, such that it doesn't just implicitly become unfun when someone is a dick and just brings their Good Deck.
I mean at the end of the day we're all adults and we should ideally choose to self-moderate; by the same token, some people like/need rules to avoid smartassery.
