I play MTGO cuz it's a good practice tool for paper tournaments. It's fun, quick (less than 3 hrs), and the Daily Event structure is good EV.

However, I'm a little concerned to see an event like this:
http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Digital/MagicOnlineTourn.aspx?x=mtg/digital/magiconline/tourn/5019940

Specifically:
1: OmniShow
2: OmniShow
3: OmniShow
4: OmniShow
5: Affinity
6: Eva Depths (cool list with DRS, I might even proxy it up for testing)

However, this is only one event in a series. To get a good picture, we need to plot the series over time to see a real trend.

The previous event:
http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Digital/MagicOnlineTourn.aspx?x=mtg/digital/magiconline/tourn/5019873

1: Doomsday (hi Lejay!)
2: EsperBlade
3: Burn (*cringe*)
4: Jund
5: Spiral Tide
6: UR Landstill
7: OmniShow

This site is a good resource to track it: http://www.mtgstats.com/ArchetypeList.aspx?TournamentFormatID=13

Share your thoughts (but keep "S&T needs a ban" to a minimum please)

I keep wanting to buy into MTGO so that I can get more practice, but honestly data like this doesn't really give me a good feeling about doing so. Well, from the first event that you're showing anyway.

I would like to keep better track of it and right now I have some constraints.
Firstly, not all events that fire are listed - only one per day per format. This was a recent change by the staff at MTGO. It doesn't provide the complete picture. The reasoning was to curtail the Hive-Mindedness of netdecking.
Secondly, time commitment to enter results into a spreadsheet and analyze for meaningful interpretation.

As much as I love wasting time, this seems more work than its worth. :P

I feel your pain! I was originally doing that for all of our local events that took place around here, and keeping a google spreadsheet for everyone to see what the local meta was like. It was too much of a pain so I stopped - wouldn't blame you for doing the same.

As far as the actual data from MTGO goes... that seems like a really weird strategy to restrict people's access to information. Forcing people to be "creative" by not telling them what's going on? Odd...

Welcome to WotC.

I feel that the online meta is combo permeated due to the cost of non-blue decks being substantially lower. So as most of the field is easy prey to them. Also the non-blue decks generally fare well against the blue decks that would otherwise keep combo at bay. This is what I experienced. Play combo= easy rounds
