After a post in another thread, I decided to ask this here because I am curious. When you win packs, do you save them for drafts, or open them right away? Some people save their FNM/special/prize etc cards in a special binder, others just put them right into the trade folder. Most people seem to put their "top 8 pins" on their playmats, Obviously when you win a playmat itself, that get's used as well as, a play mat, etc...
In conclusion, what do you do with your "prizes" or "winnings" with what you get, from FNM's & weekly events to Grand Prix's & SCG Opens, or anything in between.

I put them in my castle with the dragon, Oscars, Super Bowl rings, and the rest of my imaginary shit!

Sell them, ASAP!
For Top 8 pins, I collect them in my closet until someone makes me an offer I can't refuse ($10 for T8 pin you say? Here take *fistfulloftrinkets* *cha-ching*)
Playmats are similarly rolled up and sitting around.
Too much junk. Gimme those Duals and Forces and Jaces. Those have much more utility :D
I don't think I've played in any recent tournament that awarded boosters/boxes, so I can't recall what I used to do with those. I think in the past (Ravnica block original), I cracked it for the rares. That was also the last time I competitively PTQ'd.
I always open packs I win, the resell value just sucks and I can't use them to enter any further events. I rarely play events that pay out in packs anyway, so might as well try to go for the chase foil ;)
Other stuff I win always gets sold as soon as possible, except for playable foils and bb Duals. I would never buy bb Duals for real money, but if I win them it's alright.

Sell packs and playmats, hold promos to sell later (possibly buying others at low rates), sell other junk if possible, otherwise it goes into a box of misc mtg-related stuff. When I played magic multiple times per week, I never actually paid entry fees locally due to reselling prize packs to individuals or the store.
We also did a competitive "thieves auction" draft format where rares and foils were taken out after the event and then each pod drafted their rares in order of finish. Being good at magic meant using $10 credit to attain $15-25 credit. This lasted until I started playing D&D 4e, at which point all of my store credit disappeared.

Top 8 pins on playmats seems pretty common.
I don't have any, but I see tons of people with them on their mats.

Places I play always give credit. Usually use to get more singles or sometimes get boosters if I feel like just ripping packs. Packs are fun even though they are a complete waste of money. One of my LGS has russian/japanese GTC which is what Ive been cracking recently. Otherwise they have Chinese ROE which kinda sucks but whatevs. Chinese Vengevines ftw!

The places i play at always give store credit or boosters an da big prize at the end of the year/season. I crack boosters and often end up giving the cards away unless they are worth something. If i'd win playmats or special foils i'd probably keep them and put them on the same page in my personal collection.

I play at one small weekly event for (usually) $25 credit. I win a fair amount, but don't need much in the store, so I keep banking it. I just learned they have an Alpha Tundra hidden away, so, now I need to win 50 more events...

Promos and playmats I use unless I don't like them. They I trade or sell them. I don't have any T8 pins or anything. I guess I would hang on to them for a little while and then try to trade them or something.

Top 8 pins go (went) in a deck box in the closet. FNM etc. get sold if possible.
Can someone explain to me the playmat phenomenon? I just started playing again after a long hiatus, and I was surprised to see so many people using playmats. It used to be less than 1% of players. And those guys were... eccentric. Do playmats have a function?

I'm bad and have pretty much only ever won packs in my life. I open them immediately. One time I won scrublands, I just held onto them with the rest of my cards.
If I ever won a trophy I'd probably ditch it immediately.

They furnish additional protection for increasingly expensive cards and the potential for another form of aesthetic enjoyment or sense of individuality.

I actually like the minimalistic approach, so I have an all-black boring playmat (Source one is getting torn up a little ). Basic logic chain:
Pins ==> Throw into drawer
Playmats ==> Is the art really sweet? If so, keep. If not, donate to newer player at LGS.
Win packs ==> Is the Limited format miserable? If so, open. If not, keep to draft (RTR and GTC have been the latter part of this rule).
Win cash (GP, for example) ==> Pay bills
Win store credit (at LGS) ==> Bank and keep the train rolling for next week
Since I'm starting to play a lot more Limited, it's more beneficial for me to keep packs. That's about the only difference really.

Trophies: Have sex with them once, or twice, then give them to Alix Hatfield. He has a nice collection, and since they mostly never have names on them, no one is the wiser. He has the room for them.
Playmats: I used to keep these. But people are paying completely retarded prices for them now. I'll usually take the 10-20% hit, and sell them on-site.
Pins: Get immediately thrown back at whoever handed them to me. Seriously. Judge or no. Fuck pins. Unless Cornwall-Shiels is there. He is very close to having a playmat completely covered in Top 8 pins, so I throw them at him if he's around.
Packs: PACK WARS!!!!
Duals: I never take Duals. I always take the cash or credit. One of the only things keeping Gearhart from suicide is that he can still lord all the Duals he won back when SCG actually gave away 40 for winning their Legacy tournaments. Unless their cash offer is completely unreasonable, I always take it just to make sure to keep my total of Duals won under Gearhart's. Keep hope alive.
Promos: I don't play FNM.
Do playmats have a function?
I usually hear that they are used to keep off the dirt from cards. All these instore tables are usually dirty and never get cleaned it seams...

FNM promos: give to a little kid
Boosters: trade or sell. I mean like $1-2, anything I can get for them.
Top 8 pin: gave to girlfriend
Store credit or high-end singles: keep
I haven't won anything else, but if it's not a Legacy playable care, I'm not likely to keep it.

Pins: Don't have any as I don't play anything right now that gives them out. If I do win one, I'd keep it
Mats: See above. I like mats, unless it's ugly. then SELL
Promos:Trade
Boosters: I get credit; got 350 credit + at a one store. I buy goodies once something nice goes into the display.
