How in the hell did a Confinement deck, much less two, lose to Zoo, and especially Burn? Luck can never be that much of a factor.

The "burn" deck was more along the lines of Dryad Sligh. I didn't get to play against it, but I saw it beat Thresh/w in the semifinals. It looked like a solid deck, really damn fast and resilient.

I'd also like to see the Dancing Ghoul list. It seemed to be getting consistant turn 3 and 4 wins. I lost to it, and I was playing Tog with 10 hard counters plus Duresses in the sideboard.

I looked up Phantom Ogre's primer and worked off of that (since no other build of it has ever worked well for me, and his idea of it worked well in testing in the past). So it got modified a little, and I think it's a great deck.

(Wins turn 2-4 automatically if they have no control = Win against goblins. Thanks to that little meta list I was expecting Goblins. :tongue: )

@Parcher - 2 Confinement? Sorry, no, that was 2 Survival. I saw Loam Confinement lose to UGW Thresh in the first or second round, and he played Mister Solidarity some time later and lost (I don't actually know if he was playing Solidarity, that's just what I've seen him often play.)

Edit - Alright b4r0n, I guess it was Dryad Sligh then. Sorry, I only saw the last game of the UGW Thresh match and didn't see much against myself either.

It is a really neat deck. I've played against it a few times. It functions as a mid-size aggro deck. It has all the good legendary samurai of the last block with Elmandari's call to search for specfic ones when needed, lots of spot removal (Stp, Lightning Bolts, Terminates) and equiptment. It also utilizes a lot of the lands that give legendary creatures bonuses (including the one from legends which can bounce creatures). I would say the deck is about 50/50 vs Thresh but like 65/35 vs Goblins. Its interesting, but not mindblowing.

Yeah, we placed 3 Worcester peeps in top 8 and we all got some packs. They were giving out draft sets, nice prize support, really. My only loss was to Justin, when I just didn't draw any big aggro or combo setup stuff. My draw was against REBELS! when I had to Burning Wish to Pyroclasm his board AND Wish for Flashfires to force through my dudes, but just ran out of time to win. I won the first game without ever drawing a Survival, so that took a huge chunk out of the clock.

To be fair, that should have been registered a win 1-0-1 but the judge seems a little inexperienced. And it would not have mattered, just scrambled the placings :) I believe first & second got significantly larger prizes, but I was happy to see support stretch all the way down to 6th.

I was running Darkblast, more of a Dredge approach. Not strictly relying on getting the Loam engine with Intuition every time. Just sayin'. And chances are good, yes, that the Scepter kid got 4th place at 3-1, since his only loss was to me, and I obviously was insane tiebreakers. Cracking Steam Vents? About $16. Cracking seven Leylines in 15 packs.. priceless.. okay maybe not.

Aand, that's a wrap-up! No, but seriously, that's Faerie Stompy right there. How to tell the 2 apart? FS plays FoW. 5/3 doesn't. UGW Threshold won after bribing its way through both Red Death and LFTL Control, and LFTL Control only hit T8 by bribing Charbelcher with Empty The Warrens into reporting a loss after Belcher won 2-0. Ah, I love local tournaments.:rolleyes:

I piloted RGBSA and lost 2-1 to LFTL Control in both round 4 and the Semis, but went 3-0 in my other matches against 4C Landstill, Affinity, and 6/1. Must run more Loaming Shamans in graveyard-based metas. I did rock 4C Landstill and Affinity in rounds 1-2 by Burning Wishing for Tsunami and Seeds of Innocence.

Actually, its a GW deck running Sakura, Tribe Elder, Kodama's Reach, etc. to generate enough mana to cast a big Decree of Justice (it also runs Raise the Alarm). I was playing UGr-Thresh and it knocked me out of the Top8, mostly due to me drawing lands at least five turns straight for two games in a row. I consider the deck to be a random aberration (and I'm not proud to have lost to it :) ).

2nd Meat Hooks

Just to be clear, Quantumdemon was playing a 4c CounterSliver build with Hibernation Slivers and Aether Vials. No Swords or Counterspells. Technically, it's 7 cards off the standard MeatHooks build (not counting the manabase or Serum Visions, which are basically interchangeable with Portent). I mention this only for the sake of posterity, since some might argue this technically isn't "Meat Hooks."

Oh, by the way, I would say that about a dozen people out of 25 were playing Some variant of a Tarmagoyth deck. Also, dispite the low turnout, almost all the players are what I think are advance players.

I'm working on a report for my TES deck... I beat threashold Two out of the three matches I played against them. I also beat the WUB Aggro deck twice, and life.

Edited again: I now know the real top 8, and that is it... it's funny that out of 15ish Threshold decks, only one made top 8. all the bad threshold matchups ate up the decks it appears.

The results may be odd as the DCI reporter really freaked out in the last round and gave at least 3 different sheets with all wrong results for the last round games; either someone manipulated last rounds results or it was just a random bug but the top4 are fix though.

Something I really found interesting was that the CRET Belcher was undefeated and drew in top2... not that I think that Belcher is a bad deck but Karlsruhe is known as one of the most combo hating metagames known... normally the meta is just full of Fish/ThreshThreshThreshThreshThreshThreshThreshThresh and Landstill decks which all easily beat up on combo so that no one plays that archetype anymore.
As you can see this time, there were 6 out of 15 decks which were an amazingly bad Matchup for the Belcher... and he managed to avoid them all.

I didn't play in this event because I though that playing UW Cunning Landstill with only 3-4 hours of sleep backup was rather a bad move. Also the price support was lousy this time... I would appreciate a link to those deck lists as well. I see burn top 8'ing a few time in the Italian meta. Maybe they are the masters of Burn tech.

Meh, competative Magic sucks at the moment for me... I didn't play in the last few local events and not in this one either since everything crapped out on me in ther German Legacy Champs and the following Bazaar of Wonders Tournament... there's just a severe lack of the needed quantum of luck on my side at the moment so I'm taking a break from tournaments. Testing & developing is good enough.
Lending decks to other people and seeing them being successfull with them is fun too.
