New judge foil - Show and Tell

Does this solidify the idea for anyone that Show and Tell is not on the consideration list for banning for a while?

Not true. Survival of the Fittest got banned just right after the Judge Promo was released.

I've hated much pretty every judge foil that's come out, with the exception of Dark Confidant, Sword of Fire and Ice/Light and Shadow, and Noble Hierarch, but mostly due to the foiling rather than the art. After you pointed this out, I do recall that most of the art on these things are hideous too.

Of the judge foils that have received new art, a huge number of them are absolute abominations to look at: Exalted Angel, Pernicious Deed, Ravenous Baloth, Vindicate (x2), Mind's Desire, Demonic Tutor, Goblin Piledriver, Dark Ritual, Stifle, Survival of the Fittest, Burning Wish, Sinkhole, Wheel of Fortune, Wasteland, Vendilion Clique, Bitterblossom, Mana Crypt, Doubling Season, Karmic Guide, Sneak Attack, Karakas, Swords to Plowshares, Show and Tell, and Vengevine. Rarely is the artwork improved: off the top of my head, only Thawing Glaciers represents a definite upgrade over the old art.

It bugs the hell out of me that they use some CGI crap to replace the art of some of the most iconic cards in the game. Do they no longer have the rights to use the original artwork, or are they using some other deeply misguided justification to fuck around with the art?

Of all the cards you listed I think the only ones I truly dislike are Ritual and Wheel. I think that Angel, Deed, Baloth, Vindicate, Desire, Piledriver, Surivival, Sneak Attack and SnT are pretty solid upgrades over the original and the rest I can either take or leave.

I think a lot of their reasoning is because they don't want to reprint old cards with the artwork that was so specific to the block it was printed in (like the squiggly blue guy on stifle, or those root-crystal things on doubling season, for example), or they just want the art quality/style (whatever you want to call it) to be more in line with the sets they print currently.

I think a lot of this dislike for judge promos is an overblown sense of nostalgia (Omg new art? New frame? Gross) and I guess that's fine but it's not really fair to use that as an excuse to call the new art bad.

One example that you didn't list was Land Tax which is pretty much a definite upgrade unless you think the goon with the moneybag is too 'iconic' to change.

If they ever decide to reprint it, they will probably go with something like this cause of their anti-wall of text stance.
