For years, Ive been trying to play a good Loam Control deck (besides Lands, which is my favorite deck). Im currently playing Lands and an Astral Slide deck with Loam engine. I really hate Aggro Loam, so please dont tell me to play Aggro Loam.

This is just an idea:

Deck [61]

Creatures [9]
4 KOTR = I think it's just perfect for any loam based deck with creatures. I know it's not that powerful right now with abrupt decay and DRS on the meta, but still a cool guy.
4 Lotus Cobra = I always wanted to play this card, abuse its landfall hability
1 Eternal Witness = for any instance you need to get back anything you dredge away, making your 5th thoughtseize or swords, etc.

Spells [21]

Engine [5]
4 Life from the Loam = the core of the deck, I always play 4 copies but Im trying Sylvan library instead of the 4th copy. Probably a mistake, but it's my instance for testing
1 Sylvan Library = cool interaction with lftl and real CA when you need it

Assist [3]
2 Green Zun Zenith = 5th/6th copy of KOTR and 2nd/3rd copy of witness... i feel it can be change for mox diamond, especially without dryad.
1 Worm Harvest = I really love this card, but it has no place on Lands, it was risky con Aggro loam with BoB. I will give it a chance

Discard [4]
4 Thoughtseize = a little control for combo MU and against cards I have no answer like enchantments and artifacts.

Removal [7]
4 Swords to Plowshares = against big guys and quick answer against DRS
3 Punishing Fire = very powerful engine, I used it on my Lands deck

Artifacts [4]
4 Mox Diamond

Lands [29]

Mana Source [14]
4 Verdant Catacombs
3 Bayou
2 Savannah
1 Taiga
1 Forest
3 Grove of the Burnwillows

Manlands [4]
4 Mishra's Factory = just flavor, I really like Mishra's factory but there's no room on Lands

Assist Lands [3]
3 Tranquil Thicket = draw engine

Control Lands [5]
4 Wasteland = every loam based deck should play 4 of this
1 Maze of Ith = silver bullet for KOTR

Legendary Lands [3]
1 Karakas = I really love this card, it comes untapped, generates mana and has a great utility against show n tell and stuff
1 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale = My favorite Land. It helps on aggro matches but it doesnt work that well with worm harvest*
1 Volrath's Stronghold = some protection for my creatures

Some cards I really like, but I havent test yet:

Treetop Village
Nantuko Monastery
Bojuka Bog

Another Idea for a Loam deck:

LftL, Lotus Cobra, Vengevine, Bloodghast

I hope we can work something for this Loam Control. The only loam control viable a saw is "trisomy 21" deck, on junk colors and plays like pox.

Have you seen Jeff Hooglands list? It is somewhat similar to what you have here, but the burning wish SB is INSANE.

Not to put down what you have here, it just seems like you have a similar goal to his deck: http://starcitygames.com/events/coverage/deck_tech_4_color_loam_with_je.html

+1

He also wrote an article about the deck on SCG: http://www.starcitygames.com/article/26118_Loam-Is-Where-The-Heart-Is.html

I think Jeff's perfomance the last couple of months has been spectacular, and I have seen all his matches on the streams. But as I said... I dont want to play an aggro loam deck ( devastating dreams, chalice). I really like the burning wish flexibility, unfortunaly I dont own any of those.

I do have dark confidants and almost every card for aggro loam, 43 lands, etc... but Im looking for a Loam control deck. It's kind of disapointing because Dark Confidant is just a better drop 2 than Lotus Cobra, but I really want to give it a chance... I see so much potential on that card and cant find the best way of using it.

I feel like the best way to abuse cobra is through like turbo land. The more triggers the better eh?

Two other cards to consider would be Solitary Confinement - either in the SB or MD, depending - and Lightning Rift - as a potential replacement for Punishing Fire, or something to do alongside it, although I wouldn't know without testing which is better.

Those were staple cards in a loam control deck I ran a bajillion years ago, but I haven't tested it anytime in the last three or so, so my advice may or may not be completely off the mark.

I have an Astral Slide deck with Lightning Rift with cycle lands, pretty funny... but I think punishing fire is more abusable in this list with lotus cobra.

After testing some matches yesterday, the deck looks like this now:

Deck [60]

Creatures [8]
4 KOTR
3 Lotus Cobra
1 Terravore/Eternal Witness

Spells [21]

Engine [5]
4 Life from the Loam
1 Sylvan Library

Assist [3]
2 Green Zun Zenith
1 Worm Harvest

Discard [4]
4 Thoughtseize

Removal [7]
4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Punishing Fire

Artifacts [4]
4 Mox Diamond

Lands [29]

Mana Source [14]
4 Verdant Catacombs
3 Bayou
2 Savannah
1 Taiga
1 Forest
3 Grove of the Burnwillows

Manlands [5]
4 Mishra's Factory
1 Nantuko Monastery

Assist Lands [3]
3 Tranquil Thicket

Control Lands [5]
4 Wasteland
1 Maze of Ith

Legendary Lands [2]
1 Karakas
1 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale

I took out:

-1 Volrath's Stronghold: Since this big creatures usually can only get exile instead of destroyed.
-1 Dryad Arbor: Lotus Cobra and Mox Diamond give me enough early mana, so GSZ were always for KOTR or Eternal/Terravore.

Took in:

+1 Nantuko Monastery: Good beater if all my creatures are exiled or in the GY.

My next cut could it be Worm Harvest and some other minor stuff and try 4 Entomb.

Cobra just seems so unneeded. I personally love having the Wish board in Hooglands list
