View Full Version : Question about ABU

I am contemplating buying some cards from ABU since from what I see it is a decent price for guaranteed cards.

My question is how accurate are they on grading. I know SCG is strict and a lot of times you get higher grade cards on what is being sold as a lower grade. Only stuff I am worried about really are things like duals etc that I am going to put away for my binder collections or possibly even try for a graded 8.5 or higher beta set eventually piece by piece. I see that they have a ton of graded stuff already and I was eyeballing their large collection of graded Icy's.

I have never ordered from them but if they are decent in the grading of their cards it may be one of my new go to sites over SCG.

If I am buying cards to play the quality is not really a problem it is why I go to Amazon and just buy the cheapest one from whatever vendor has 100+ feedback. Usually its Hotsauce or Troll and Toad or MTG Card Market.

Also where is the cheapest place to buy lower quality played cards just for shuffling up.

Probably eBay.

I stay away from ebay most of the time since there are way too many problems. Paypal took 6 months to release $1500 to me one time because I refused to mail them photocopies of my Driver's license and Social Security card and a bank statement to verify my account. Then got pissy since it was a personal account but I was selling bulk computer parts.

I live in Argentina and have bought cards there several times. I've mostly ordered foils for EDH (each foil gets sent in individual, soft sleeves in order to avoid bending), but have ordered a some older cards (namely legends and duals), both listed as NM. The cards I received were in pristine condition, as if they had just been pulled out of a booster pack.

I think I once got a playset of Sulfur Elementals with a TINY dent, but all 4 cards had the same mark in the same place, which is in all likelihood due to the mailman thinking "Do Not Bend" is just another expression for "Shove it down the mail box as hard as you possibly can".

So, to sum things up, they are super strict with grading (even more than SCG), and I highly recommend them. As of now, I'm waiting for a package which should get here in about a week, I'll update when I receive it if there's anything worth mentioning, which there shouldn't be given previous purchases.

I've always had a good time buying from ABU. For the most part, I considered the cards I received to be better than they were graded.

If I don't buy eBay, I go to ABU. I've only had good experiences. I built a pimped enchantress from them and everything graded was as good, if not better than expected.

ABU != Foreign Cards ... they list stuff as Asian. Why not just call them oriental and be done with it?

Ive never been on there before. They seem horribly overpriced though. Dark Confidants for 77 bucks? WUT.

ABU is basically Star City +1. That is to say, they are even tougher on grading than SCG, which is saying something, and they are even more overpriced. If your only concern is condition, they are the best online.
