So... preface. I make really bad decks. I have money to spend, but I'm very reluctant to on a whim. This typically means I make do with what I have in often very bad ways.

Aaanyway, next week I'm hoping to transition into an exceptionally bad exceptionally suicide Mono-Black deck, but for now I'm still rocking my R/u shell. I was initially going to run it tonight as it was/is (it involves Chandra's Phoenix and Sun Droplet), but then last night in a Skype call I had an epiphany... Batterskull is a really fucking good card. And... Well, that's about it.

[Das Land]
3 Island
3 Mountain
4 Ancient Tomb
1 Misty Rainforest
4 Scalding Tarn
1 Shivan Reef
4 Volcanic Island

[Das Varmint]
3 Snapcaster Mage
3 Spellstutter Sprite

[Das Spells]
4 Brainstorm
4 Force of Will
4 Thirst for Knowledge
2 Blood Moon
2 Chandra, the Firebrand
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Pyrostatic Pillar
1 Smash to Smithereens
3 Volcanic Fallout
4 Batterskull
1 Chrome Mox
1 Izzet Signet
1 Umezawa's Jitte

[Das Board]
1 Hydroblast
1 Spellstutter Sprite
1 Stifle
2 Blood Moon
1 Pyroblast
2 Red Elemental Blast
1 Shattering Spree
1 Smash to Smithereens
1 Volcanic Fallout
1 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Pithing Needle
2 Relic of Progenitus

Batterskull is a really good card, why not Blood Moon?, Spellstutter Sprite is effective against 100% of the meta and can be surprise-armed with a ram. I'm going to run this deck regardless tonight and I don't particularly care how well it does, but I'm still open for receiving constructive criticism on this clanking, clattering collection of caliginous junk. I would also like to be able to fit at least one more Izzet Signet into the deck and the final Spellstutter Sprite.

I like it, however i really wouldnt run all 4 Batterskulls. 5-mana is still alot :)
If you really really like him i'd say go for 3 maybe even 2, and go +1 Signet/Sprite.

Also, why the mainboard Thirst for Knowledge? It's basically Draw 3 Discard 2 in your deck, which isnt amazing for 3 mana.
An extra fetchland is probably better then the Shivan Reef aswell.

That... is a really good point. Thirsts were there because the deck originally ran a host of artifacts, duplicate spells such as 4xBlood Moon, as well as things that don't give a shit like Demigod and more recently Phoenix. Thirst for Knowledge is still great even if I just pitch excess lands, but I do agree that it lacks any synergy within the deck now.

p.s. I play with what I have. I lack another red or blue dual and have no intention of investing into either color.

Why the Pyrostatic Pillar? You play a lot of cheap spells too, and you get double-dinged with you Snapcast something. Sounds painful! On top of Ancient Tomb, you might even kill yourself before Batterskull comes out to gain you life back! That might be better in the SB against a storm combo deck.

Maybe:
-4 Thirst for Knowledge
-2 Batterskull
-3 Pyrostatic Pillar
-1 Izzet Signet

+3 Ancestral Visions
+1 Spellstutter Sprite
+2 Jace the Mind Sculptor or Ral Zarek or Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
+2 Blood Moon
+2 Counterspell or Spell Pierce or Spell Snare or whatever
