From my experience, hosting an unsanctioned proxy tournament usually leads to young kids proxying up the latest combo decks, not fully understand the intricacy of combo, but rather brute force the deck into victory.

As an example, High Tide is painful to watch, when the player obviously does not have sufficient practice with his proxied cards, yet he spends 10 to 20 min a turn.

Hence, I don't see why you would make a big deal out if an informal competition like that.

Because advertising, and because you want to support the local legacy scene?

Yeah, I've played in many Legacy events for years now, since the formats inception, and there really was no metagame difference here.

Remember, SCG used to hire me to post their $5k metagame breakdown. This was very standard fare. People proxied things like Tropical Islands for their BUG decks.

I only saw one kid with a combo deck. I think he scrubbed. Danny Friedman plays High Tide, but he always does, and has all the real cards. He's beta powered in Vintage.

I didn't get to go to this one, but the only proxy cards I've seen are duals (for BUG) and Goblin Settler. The only degenerate combo players that come to these (I'm one of them) have all of the cards already.

I attended yesterday, was a very fun event. best part was watching an 8-year-old win a match piloting cheerios. Cant wait for the August event
