I didn't know if you could classify this as a new deck since both combos are well known....however, I think I'm the only one silly enough to try both in the same deck. The origin of the this deck came from a friend who played a 3 combo deck (the third combo being Leyline of the Void/Helm). It was janky but it did have inevitability. Eventually, He'll assemble something.

So far the deck has been undefeated, ok ok in only 2 small tournaments. Steve Tomik came to a tournament without a deck and I was the only one who had an extra deck...this one. I lol'ed and went well here's a deck, no idea how you will do with it. Undefeated. Last week, I play this deck and go 4-0-2 to split top 8.

4 Painter's Servant
3 Grindstone
4 Thopter Foundry
4 Sword of the Meek
2 Goblin Welder
2 Faithless Looting
2 Sensei's Diving Top
2 Magma Jet
2 Ensnaring Bridge
1 Tormod's Crypt
3 Red Elemental Blast
3 Pyroblast
4 Enlightened Tutor
4 Plateau
2 Volcanic Island
1 Tundra
1 City of Brass
4 Scalding Tarn
4 Arid Mesa
1 Mountain
1 PLains
1 Island
3 Ancient Tomb
1 Academy Ruins
1 Great Furnace
SIDEBOARD 4 Leyline of Sanctity, 1 Ethersworn Canonist, 2 Pyroclasm, 1 Pull from Eternity, 1 Oblivion Ring, 2 Relic of Progenitus, 1 Pithing Needle, 2 Shattering Spree, 1 Engineered Explosives

Pretty simple to play really. Assemble combo with help from Looting, Tutor etc., Painter is usually better combo since it's faster to kill but sometimes Thopter was the combo I went for instead...

Round 1. vs Affinity. won 2-0
I have Painter and Grindstone in hand game 1. He plays Ancient Tomb and Cranial Plating. He's dead turn 3. Rinse repeat game 2.

Round 2. vs. RUG Delver. Jamie. Draw 1-1.
He knows 99% of the time I'm deadguy. I play a fetchland and pass the turn. He plays Delver and I red Blast it. LOL, I think the gig is up. I eventually assemble Thopter Foundry combo and kill him. Game 2, he's shocked when I try and painter him out, although really how many decks maindeck red Elemental blast and don't play Painter? He proceeds to surgical everything out of existence. Game 3 stalls......

Round 3. vs. Affinity. Won 2-0.
Same as round 1, I do blast his Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas in game 1, he could have killed me the next turn if it had lived. Painter both games. He shows after game 2 that he has some hate for me like Pithing Needle and Spell Pierce. IMO should have mulled to that as 3 Signal Pests aren't that scary to me.

Round 4. vs Rug Delver. won 2-0
Thopter Combo game 1. Painter Game 2. He made some odd plays. I activate Relic to take out one card in his GY and he stifles it. I had a blast in hand but I don't care. I did do a funny play. I hardcast Sword of the Meek, he counters it. Next Turn I cast Goblin Welder. It resolves.....so I trigger the Sword, in which he bolts it. LOL, Goblin Welder almost became a Kird Ape.

Round 5. vs. American Delver. Seth. Won 2-0.
Ensnaring Bridge stalls game 1. Magma Jet takes out Grim Lavamancer and I assemble Thopter Combo. I assemble Thopter Combo game 2, although I had to blast a Rest in Peace first. Pyroclasm was huge taking out Geist of Saint Traft. Couldn't get Painter to work and didn't search for it since he has a TON of 1 mana removal.

Round 6. ID. And top 8 split.

Avoided matchups that I think would suck.....namely Jund, BUG and Omnitell. Aside from the Combo, Ensnaring Bridge was awesome. Some decks can't get rid of a resolved Bridge, buying my all the time in the world. Welder isn't as good as I had hoped, the little bugger dies all the time. Magma Jet was pretty good, killed Delver, Grim Lavamancer and an artifact creature and of course digging. Also, I didn't cast Enlightened Tutor as much I thought I would have to. Faithless Looting did most of the digging work. Tormod's Crypt didn't do much as I didn't face an Emrakul deck (so I can kill with Painter) or a deck that needs its GY (Dredge).

24 lands does seem like a lot considering only Ensnaring Bridge costs more than 2 mana but I found I needed the mana badly. I did consider playing 4 Leyline of the Void and A Helm in the sideboard but I figured 2 combos is enough....for now.

Hey man, remember me?

I would suggest Transmute Artifact. You can sacrifice your Sword of the Meek to get Foundry and pull off some other shenanigans.

Actually, your list looks almost like a U/R Painter. There's already a thread for that under Established.

Ps. Where did you guys play?

Yep, I remember you. I played this deck at Worlds Collide (Oshawa).

Transmute Artifact is a good idea. But it is double blue. The Manabase right now is heavily red. White is really only for Enlightened Tutor and Foundry and Blue is actually only for Foundry. Would be cool to have more tutors though. :)

The deck is similar to UR Painter, but I am adding another Combo to the deck. And another color.

I love the idea of the deck! I have one question about sideboarding strategies though.

Do you often find yourself boarding out one of two combos after game 1? If yes, do you solely base those decisions on your opponent's deck, or do you also take into account that your opponent has only seen one combo and then in G2 you go for the other one?
Other than that I wanted to ask how much of a bad MU blue-based decks are, since you're running 6 ways to fight their counters!

Cheers,

Here's my 2 cents: What jumped out at me was your exclusion of counterbalance. Counterbalance-top soft lock will be a beating against lower curved decks like fast aggro decks which your deck might have trouble with, at least game 1. I would cut the magma jets and a sword of the meek for 3 counterbalances. I would pack a third ensnaring bridge-so good against all creature decks. . 4 sword of the meek is a little excessive me thinks. I think lowering that to 2 shouldn't even be a problem since you pack 4 enlightened tutor (Not even sure you need 4 of those either, but with counterbalance, 4 seems fine). I'll maybe cut the city of brass for like mox opal or something, it looks kind of odd.

Edit: Just realized your deck is blue-light so counterbalance may not be an option. I'd just cut the 2 sword of the meek for another top and ensnaring bridge.

3 Foundry and 2 Swords is the standard numbers I ran back when I was into Thopter Foundry. I'd advise trying to cut back a bit on the numbers of both and try one of two options...

1) More Faithless Looting/Goblin Welder.

2) Go more heavily into blue and run Counterbalance main. Will require more changes than the first option, but the ability to protect Welder and lock down specific decks may be worth it, particularly since it has great synergy with Enlightened Tutor and more SDT makes Faithless Looting even more of a boss than it already is.

EDIT: Agree with guy above on the City of Brass. There are probably many better options for you as you're still only in three colors.

Hi,

Thanks for Feedback.

-I haven't sided out either combo in any matchup yet. Although, I do realize Painter is bad vs any deck with Emrakul in it. Hence, me considering another combo in board.
There have been games where an opponent has seen only one combo....but I don't side either out. It is fun when they realize there's another combo to deal with.
-I like Counterbalance but my issue is I want to be the more pro-active deck. Soft lock is cool but I want a pro-active win now strategy. In playtesting, I've found I'm usually on the offensive putting together a combo.
-Manabase can change to accomodate more blue, which I probably should. I hear Brainstorm is good...lol. And adding another tutor in Transmute Artifact is nice, although it's double blue I would probably just go with one mana blue cards like Brainstorm, Ponder and Spell Pierce.

-I have faced heavy blue decks and have done alright. Goblin welder has helped in those matchups. In one game I cast an ensnaring Bridge, had it countered and then just switched a Tormod's Crypt with it. The blue decks I've seen (I played a Painter/Helm of Obedience deck which is similar to this) are sneak attack, RUG delver and Merfolk. And Tomik faced Sneak attack and Deathblade I think.
-I figure Counterbalance decks, BUG decks and Omnitell to be really really bad matchups for me.
-Yeah City is a bit janky. Too bad there's no Murmuring Bosk for RUW. lol.
-Yeah I think I should find another spot for Ensnaring Bridge. When it landed game 1 vs a lot of opponents it was GG. Against RUG Delver, Ensnaring Bridge turned RUG Delver into a really bad burn deck. lol. And I beat Seth with Bridge too. Geist isn't so scary when it can't attack.
-Another top wouldn't hurt either. I got to brush up on the Welder/Top mechanics.
