Knight Ware Inc in Studio City, CA is holding its next Sanctioned Legacy tournament on Sunday August 4, 2013 at 1:00 PM
(If you want to be on the email list for future announcements, let me know)

This will be one of our Fixed Prize Legacy events.
(Dual/Fetch pairs)
Start time will be 1:00 PM and REL will be REL Competitive

REL is REL Competitive

8-23 players, we may do a swiss + 1 with no cut
24-32 players, 5 rounds cut T8
33-64 players 6 rounds cut T8
65-71 players 7 rounds cut T8
first place, first pick, second place, second pick and so on
WER (Wizards Event Reporter) standings just prior to the cut will be used to determine 3rd/4th and 5th-8th

[Parking
Parking is the main reason most of our larger events are on Sundays
Behind the store there are numbered spaces, #1 to #11
Starting from the left,

Spaces #1, # 2 and #3 are for Universal Cycles
They are closed on Sunday, OK to park there

Spaces #4, #5 and #6 are vacant as of the writing of this post but that MAY CHANGE,
I will update if that happens

Spaces #7 and #8 (either side of the telephone/power pole belong to Sun Cafe
DON'T park there

Spaces #9, #10, and belong to us - Knight Ware, OK to park there

The streets are metered but not checked on Sundays
The first street to the west of us is Lankersheim Blvd..
On Lankersheim to the south there is unregulated street parking
Just west of Lankersheim (north side of the street) is an open lot that says
additional MTA parking. It does not get used much on the weekends
unless the hollywood bowl is running something and then there should be signs

#1 - This one is hard to answer. There is a dual-event weekend coming up with MTGDeals Legacy on Saturday and Card Addiction's Legacy on Sunday, so you could use it as a bellwether for weekend event stamina. But this also depends on a lot of other factors, including prize payout, store loyalty, and perceived/estimated interest.

As my .02, I don't know whether it's going to be worth my time to drive out to Santa Monica and play out 5 or 6 rounds along with T8 with the very real possibility of only netting +$5. I also acknowledge that it's hard for stores to start these event series up, and I definitely try to support these events when they come up, but the better the prize is, the easier it is for me to justify coming out, regardless of the date and time.

#2 - I do not know.

#3 - Possibly, leaning towards yes.

@hideho that prize payout looks pathetic. If you are going to do fixed prize take a look at any of lori's fixed prize payouts, or at mtg deals' fixed cash prize tournament from july 6th, that was $30 entry. If you don't want to commit to a decent fixed prize to top 8 then offer 90-100% of the entry fees. If you have decent cards in stock you can pay out in store credit so it's guaranteed sales for you (if you do store credit pay out 100% of entry fees) With so many legacy events in socal maybe we are spoiled as players but you must work on giving a good incentive to draw the legacy crowd, especially on a weekend with other legacy events going on.

Our Average turn-out for Legacy is 18-24, so our prizes are based on that ($500 prize pool with $20 buy in seems reasonable?).

The last 3 tournaments we held had the following prize support and attendance

My purpose of this post was to reach out outside of our legacy scene around our store if anybody else really cared or wanted stores to put on more legacy tournaments. And also in response to KW people asking us to move it, (if it's worth even moving.)

Ultimately it's the legacy players who set the standard of where they want to play and what they want to play for. Obviously attendance is the best measure short of that it's forums like these that give us a chance to at least discuss it and find out what the optimal balance of tournaments, locations and prizes are.

There are only a finite amount of Legacy players in LA. Booking events on the same day as other stores will result in both events being smaller than they could potentially be when working to find a non conflicting day. Obviously this is tricky as each store has its own schedule and there are so many stores in the region.

If we can all work together that would give most stores the opportunity to have the Legacy crowd migrate around to each of the stores. Also the tournaments will likely draw more new comers based on the merits of the tournament offering.

I wouldn't recommend double booking against Knight Ware however, since the crowd there is highly loyal to the store and will attend Lori's events even if the other store provide better prizes.

Hosting the event on Saturday might be a good solution if the weekend has already been booked. I suggest you open a new thread with your event details so it has visibility and players can address the scheduling concerns. If non-local players don't know about the event there is a small likelihood the event will draw a big attendance. Good luck!
