Hi all,
I had the idea to create a Storm combo deck that gets its Storm Count not by Rituals, but rather by creatures. Key to success in this build are Glimpse of Nature and Creatures with an effective CMC of :0: or less.
I've goldfished with the following build:
Manabase
- 4 Taiga
- 1 Volcanic Island
- 1 Tropical Island
- 4 Sclading Tarn
- 2 Misty Rainforest
- 4 Wooded Foothills
Glimpse Effects
- 4 Glimpse of Nature
- 2 Beck // Call
Creatures with effective CMC of :0:
- 4 Burning Tree Emissary
- 4 Wild Cantor
- 4 Memnite
- 4 Ornithopter
- 4 Skirk Prospector
- 4 Tinder Wall
- 2 Priest of Urabrask
Other Deckcycling
- 4 Gitaxian Probe
- 4 Manamorphose
Finishers
- 2 Grapeshot
- 2 Empty the Warrens
This build can go off as early as turn 2 with a good draw, turn 3 quite reliable, turn 4 almost definitely.
The advantage to my mind is that even if the Storm Count is not lethal, you still have some Board Presence afterwards. In my goldfish games I often ended with a Grapeshot at Storm Count 14 and 3 or 4 Creatures in play.
What do you all think about it? Worthwile idea? Or not consistent enough? What should be changed?
PS: If this idea is nothing new, I apologize to the original inventor(s), though I have never heard of it before.
