I am going to try out streaming tonight for the first time. My plan is to begin by talking about my version of Miracles, and then play in the daily event, or some 2mans if the daily does not fire.
The daily starts at 5:30 pacific time, so I will fire the stream up just after 5:00.

Sweet I'll come check it out.

The little Nimble Mongoose that could.
So when's the next live stream? I want to watch it with audio this time... seeing as I couldn't hear a thing from the bar. :D

Great job on the stream today! I'm watching the recording now, wasn't able to watch live. You did a good job filling dead time with play analysis and played well (as far as I could tell ) Definitely going to tune in when I get a chance.

I just finished streaming the sunday morning daily event. Apparently there were viewers, and people talking in the chat. But on my end, twitch apparently had crashed or something, so I never saw any comments. If you were watching and I ignored you (meaning everyone that said anything to me at all), sorry about that.

Last night I broadcast a series of games with the M14 rules change in place. http://www.twitch.tv/oarsman79/b/432079545
The Miracle opponents are
mirror (six games, half with sideboard)
Elves (two games)
RUG delver (eight games, half with sideboard)
Shardless BUG (three games)

I watched the rerun today, I really enjoyed it, keep it up! I like your stream in general, but time difference makes it hard to watch live.

Watched it for an hour or two when I got home Thursday night. Great stuff, Joe. Looking forward to seeing more of this in the future.

I said before that this week I would be playing live with Jacob Kory on Wednesday night. He has now asked to play Thursday instead, so Wednesday I will stream the daily event if it fires.

When you mention that you play Miracles on your stream because that's what people are tuning in for because you're known as "The Miracles Guy," the first thing I think is "Actually, I sort of want to see some Breakfast." If you ever have some down time during one of your streams, I think it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on how you think the deck fares in Legacy with all of new cards that have entered the cardpool.

Thanks for streaming, the stream yesterday was pretty much perfect ending for a perfect day. If you could, please tell Koby to stop slacking and keep on punting with TES. Stream was really fun and interesting to watch, even though I didn't like the outside assistance you were given when playing against Maverick (counterbalance - entreat on top and enemy trying to play gsz), but I was glad that you were on the same track with me about helping others if they're too oblivious to see the line of play themselves.
p.s. You look a lot like legendary Finnish hockey player Raimo Helminen in my opinion. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Yeah I definitely felt uncomfortable when that happened. I would prefer to just make the mistake, rather than have someone point it out preemptively. And in that case, I think I would have won anyway. Not that that makes it okay to screw up.

I think the "outside assistance" thing is just the nature of streaming. That's happens sometimes when you're interacting with a chat room while making plays. I definitely understand why it would make you or others uncomfortable, but personally I would like to see a deck played optimally above all else. You can still learn things when a deck is played sub-optimally, but not nearly as much IMO.
When you stream you also run the risk of being ghosted, so it evens out. Just post videos after the event is over if you want to avoid that kind of thing altogether.

Really enjoyed the live streaming. Inane question guy was lolz.
I liked that you guys discussed plays and reasoning behind your lines.
I asked you why you play with so many white bordered cards, but right when you answered my stream crashed. =/
Also i think you are crazy if you think Mana drain would be ok. I think it would ruin the format really fast. You said there is nothing to drain into at the moment, but that's cause we don't have drain, don't you think people would then start exploring other cards if drain were around? Off the top of my head i'd start looking into draining into Helm, that seems pretty good.
Ughh.. ya Oblivious Inane Question guy was unexpected. At least we now know that we need to actively inform people they are on camera streaming to the internet.

I have been definitely enjoying the MiracleTek Stream. In just the few episode I've watched and when I was on last week I have learned a lot.
Being on camera, interacting with the chat and playing the game is something you really have to get used to. It really shows how experienced Joe and Jacob are when they are able to discuss the lines of play and their reasoning all at the same time.
One thing we need to do is cover up Joe's hand when sitting in that chair. Because we can see it when we are trying to read the chat window.

This week I've been working on Slivers in Legacy. We got started building the deck on Sunday, and after running some 2mans the stream and I made some changes. I made several more changes after the broadcast ended. I am going to be running them again Wednesday night on Magic Online, and most likely Thursday in a live play session at MTGdeals.

Hi Joe, I'm enjoying your stream a lot.
Is there anyway to indicate at which time points games and matches start, making note of which opponents (and decks) you're facing? Some of your opponents are quite good, and others are not quite up to the same quality.
Thanks, and keep up the great work!

LordofthePit, I can easily do at least some of that. Starting with last night, I will now edit the broadcast notes with the start times for each matchup within the video.

I haven't put together a set schedule yet. But as of now, I will probably be on Thursday evenings around 7 playing live, and Sunday mornings for the 10:30 daily event online. Monday and Wednesday night dailies are always going to be possibilities.
When I figure out a real schedule, I'll post it here.
After playing Slivers online Wednesday night, I am going to switch things up and play Bomberman tonight, along with some Miracles.

Not enough resources to show the complete list. The flat text file alone would be larger than all printed text throughout history.
Joe, yesterday you mentioned to me that the video of Miracles vs ANT was really popular last week. Can you post the link for it? (I can't access Twitch from neither my phone nor work firewall).

Try using TwitchTools to download streams from Twitch to your phone. THen you can watch them when you are using the bathroom at work all you want =)
What's this I hear about you picking up Tin Fins? That seems like blasphemy.

Joe, on a recent broadcast, you mentioned some mistakes you made in your win-and-in at GP Denver. I watched game 1 and saw two players piloting their decks at a very high level. Can you do a breakdown of this game the way you did with some of the epic games you had at SCG?
My guess as to the mistakes you made involved overvaluing your Vendilion Clique to an extent that affected your fateseal decisions, before you ended up having to throw it away with a second Clique. (Impressive read on that Helm!) I also noticed you had been floating a 2 and a 4 on top of your deck, but you ended up giving that up (I didn't notice where). Is this because the Dust Bowl was putting too much pressure on you?

Thanks for the great stream Joe. I have a question about your version of Miracles, I'm sure you've talked about this already but there is hours of stream to comb through and I couldn't find it. Why do you prefer your legend version over the RiP/Helm version? Do you think RiP/Helm version has better matchups like Goblins and what would you say the pros and cons of each?
Keep going, Joe. As an avid control player that doesn't really have the time to play a lot anymore, I enjoy watching the recordings after work (I'm from Europe so I won't catch you live unless I'm getting up 2 hours earlier than usual). It makes me feel like I don't miss too much from what's going on in the format (although I can't play nearly as much compared to my time at university) and that feels good. Thank you.

Higgs, my primary issue with RIP/Helm is that those cards cannot pressure Jace. Against other planeswalkers, I would much rather have creatures, or Punishing Fire, than some cards that win the game when assembled, but do nothing until then. The RIP/Helm version is stronger maindeck versus decks that utilize the graveyard, and worse against everything else. If you play Energy Field and tutors, then the Goblin matchup is much better than what I can pull off with my version.
LordofthePit, I do have notes prepared to talk about that GP match. I might break that down this Friday.

RIP vs no is definitely a metagame choice. I expect to play against more graveyard decks than Jace decks so I play RIP.

there are mainly 4 versions of Miracle
The ones contain RiP in 75 (category 1):
RiP-Helm
Legend-Angel (Joe)
The ones without RiP MD (category 2):
Punishing Fire
Snapcaster Mage
Each version has its own set of strong and weak match-ups.
My speculation is that:
vs combos (best win-rate to worst)
1. Legend-Angel
1. Snapcaster Mage
3. Rip-Helm
3. Punishing Fire
vs goblin/merfolk
1. Punishing Fire
1. Snapcaster Mage
3. Rip-Helm
3. Legend-angel

A terrific idea to compare 4 different versions of Miracle and then break it down to Combo vs Tribal. Clever indeed, Sir.

Joe, while it's nice to see the match break down, for your specific version of Miracle, the matches post M14 rule changes are the meaningful ones. Your version gains huge advantage by abusing Karakas. This is very evident against DnT, Maverick, and your own Cliques in general. To view playback back prior to the change, I don't see much value in it, than other intros for people who just picked up Miracle cards.

That's fair, and I've already used up the games that I wanted to cover, so there won't be any more old ones.

Is putting your W-L records in your video descriptions necessary? I certainly don't speak for everyone, but I find it to be a bit of a hindrance and I don't know who benefits from it. I can never catch the stream live due to time zone differences, and when going into the archives it's pretty hard to avoid reading your record and exactly what you played against, which defeats the purpose of watching the broadcast in the first place for me.
oarsman
08-25-2013, 12:55 PM
Someone else mentioned the same thing, so I stopped doing that about a week ago. Now it just lists the decks I played against so that people can find a specific matchup if they want. However, I didn't go back and change the old ones, and I probably should have.

Joe, is there a way for you to split the Miracle portion of your recording from High Tide portion? I mean, am I the only one who's hunting the Miracle portion by going back and forth within hours of a recording? I suppose you can stop the uploading software and start again when you want to switch deck.

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your stream! I usually can't watch live, but almost always watch the replays. Also, just a vote for you to keep playing Miracles! It is really fun to watch someone who plays their deck very proficiently, and I like to borrow some of your more interesting interactions (like Venser bouncing Top for a free card) since I also play the deck.
I often question your non-mulligan decisions, but it seems to work out most of the time. Also, sometimes, you seem a little aggressive with Brainstorm. Could you maybe give me a few sentences on how you decide when to play, or not play, Brainstorm?
Joe, what's your stream schedule?
oarsman
09-04-2013, 03:10 PM
Jacob, I'll try and put a schedule up on the channel. I've been regularly playing Monday and Wednesday evenings, and Friday afternoons.
Burton, I'm not sure I could accurately describe how I use Brainstorm. I'm going to make up some definitions here to help the explanation.
aggressive: using it as a cantrip
defensive: using it to set up or cast a Miracle, or to set up Counterbalance, or for dodging discard
full: when you get to shuffle away two cards
Clearly we want to avoid ever playing Brainstorm when it is aggressive. It should be just as obvious that this is going to happen sometimes. Usually it will come up when we are starved for land early in a game. I will also fire them off later in games when I have a Top in play. The reason for that is simply because Top makes Brainstorm lose a lot of value. I am unlikely to draw many cards that I don't want, so I won't need Brainstorm to clean my hand up. At that point it becomes a simple cantrip.

I think this is what I have been noticing. Thinking about my own play, I think that I tend to hold Brainstorm when it has lost a lot of its value to try and use it in a situation where is going to be good again. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

Hey,
I've been regularly watching your vods (would like to watch it live instead though!) and I've come along a problem. My internet connection changed and I got a slower connection. A lot slower. Because of that I can no longer watch the vods at twitch.tv without having pauses every god damn 5-10 seconds. Could it be possible by any means to upload your games (with cut out spare time) to youtube? Your stream has a lot of potential, in my opinion the best mtg stream there is!

After observing some Shardless BUG match-ups, notice how you discuss the difference between the version running Tarpit vs the version without Tarpit; you seem to crush the version without Tarpit. I'm sure Blood Moon has not been the solution, since you dropped it in your recent list. You might have asked people for ideas for playing against the version with Tarpit, I don't remember, but here's something I came up with:
Avalanche Riders
here's my reasoning:
0. Tarpit killer.
1. Only needs 1 Red Mana, easily able to produce.
2. It's a creature spell, BUG has to FoW instead of Spell Pierce.
3. 4 CMC means no Abrupt Decay.
4. Being a 2/2, can trade Shardless when necessary, can block Goyf for a turn.
5. BUG's Jace most likely would not want to bounce it, can be a threat to BUG's Jace. You might want to bounce it with your own Jace to skip the echo, if you really want to land destruct BUG.
Might wanna just resolve a blood moon instead...
0. Theres quite a few better options
1. 4 mana is a lot to tapout for, when all it does is kill 1 land and maybe hit jace down to 1
2. Shardless bug doesnt run spell pierce
3. lol
4. Seems lackluster
5. Seems lackluster
Your sig suggest you dont want to be taken seriously?
Just play blood moon, there's room in the board and it wins those pesky bugmatches.

I recently noticed that there are three Legacy events online on Thursdays. I had the opportunity this week, so I played in all of them. It turns out that 12 serious rounds in a day is more than enough to wear me down. By the end my play had declined below my normal level of screwupiness. It was interesting for me that the decline was not apparent from making bad decisions (although I'm sure that happened also), but from not even noticing where there were decisions to be made. In Legacy players have more control over the outcome of a game than they do in more straightforward formats like Standard. The last couple rounds I was just not seeing things. I still had a good time though.

Not sure if this is the case here, but in my experience with twitch, unless you explicitly save a broadcast it gets wiped out after some time period.

Alphastryk is correct. Unless you choose to make a highlight out of a broadcast, the system deletes it after several days. And considering how badly I have done playing Standard recently, that is probably a good thing for me.

Watched your daily stream yesterday, and you said your Reanimator opponent didn't punt. He definitely did by alerting you of the fact that he was targeting himself with Therapy. If he didn't tell you that you would've left Terminus on hand, and that Terminus won you that match. Must be nice to play against three punters in a row.
I still enjoyed the stream, and a 15-1 record in four dailys is nothing to scoff at. Good luck in D.C.
