Timezone Gaming located in Fords, NJ runs numerous Magic the Gathering events each week. We cater to players of all skill levels and we usually have players on hand who will gladly assist new players in learning. Whether you are looking for competitive MTG or just a casual environment , you can find it here. We carry all of the latest products and we have a wide selection of competitively priced singles.

We are always buying/trading/selling singles and collections. If you are interested in getting rid of some of your cards you do not use feel free to contact us and set up an appointment so you can come by.

We are located diagonally across from Fords Jewelers and we have on street parking for free and also parking in a lot behind the store at no cost. We have several pizza and chinese places in the area. The only rule we have for this is that there is no outside food or drink in the store.

I came down for the celebration just to check out the store and it's not too far away from where I live as I'm from Newark. Hope to have some fun there every saturday! Hopefully being new to the game and the format won't be too much of a detriment.

On the 14th we are hosting a Standard tournament for a case of Theros. Details are on www.timezonegaming.com

The weekend of the 21st is Theros Pre-Release weekend.

The following week we will return to our normal tournaments.

Depending what duals you need I do have an extra port , savannah , taiga and a pretty beat scrubland (tournament legal but beat)

Also a polluted delta and verdant catacomb

We have an established Legacy crowd that plays here and it is continually growing. With that being the case I am not sure I understand why limiting the number of proxies will discourage. Most of these players already have their duals and other higher end cards. Several also already have full Vintage decks. The only thing the Legacy players would be doing proxies of would be P9 or Workshops/Bazaars. 10 proxies should be more than enough for that since not every deck runs full P9 , and if it does the players have the option to add a few extra proxies if they desire.

There will be numerous announcements for changes in 2014 here at TimeZone Gaming. The first one I can announce concerns our weekly Legacy events.

Beginning in January the 3rd Saturday of each month will be Vintage instead of the normal Legacy event. We have had numerous players ask us about this and after working out the details we are ready to addit to the schedule.

Vintage tournaments allow a wider range of cards than even Legacy and due to the value of some of these cards we are allowing 10 proxies per deck.

Prizes will be given as store credit and all of the entries fees taken in will be given back as prizes.

Entry fee will be $8 for Vintage and will still remain $6 for Legacy. If most of the Legacy players would like to raise Legacy to $8 to increase the prize pool feel free to mention it.

We will also be stocking up on some higher end Legacy/Vintage staples to do special tournaments with providing players show an interest.

I'm all in for an increase of Legacy entry fee (to 8$) starting in January, since I don't think the entry fee is a barrier towards keeping people from playing in the events. Also will keep uniformity with the Vintage event.

As to vintage and extra proxies - don't really care, but I would like to know who did purchase extra proxies on tournament start...

You know, with the possibility of something like this - and the "need" for a decklist in this case, I'd suggest the canning of extra proxies and just keep it at 10.

Side note. So everyone knows beginning the new year we are adding Vintage events. Details have been finalized and I will post them here first.


MtG Vintage Events - Each Saturday we hold MtG Legacy events and due to many requests we are mixing it up a little bit. The third Saturday of each month instead of Legacy we will be holding a 10 proxy Vintage event. Cost for the Vintage event will be $8 and players will be allowed up to 10 proxies in their deck. Proxies can be done in one of 3 ways. The first way you can proxy is printing the card image off the computer and putting it in a sleeve with a real MtG card behind it. The second is using Collector's Edition version of the cards (only with opaque sleeves you cannot see through). The third only applies to the Power Nine , Gaming Etc made a set of Power Nine proxies years ago. You can use these (only with opaque sleeves you cannot see through).

Note - For January we will be holding the Vintage Event on the second Saturday of the month. This is due to a large event in store on the 18th so we will hold the event on the 11th instead.

akuma will be the ultimate confirmation, but I don't believe there will be. Sealed pre-releases generally trump the legacy event and it's the only time that I don't mind that happening.

We would not mind running it side by side but most of the players enter the prereleases and it would mess with the Legacy attendance. Yesterday we announced a slightly adjusted prize breakdown for our prereleases. Players who play every round of swiss in a prerelease will be guaranteed at least one booster pack.

Today we are announcing a couple side events during the course of all of the events.

These side events will happen at any point we have 8 players sign up for them. If you can wrangle up 8 players who want to play just come up front and let us know. These will keep happening all weekend.

This coming weekend 4/12 will be Legacy and the following weekend 4/19 will be Vintage (10 proxy)

For our Vintage tournaments that occur the the 3rd Saturday of each month there are a couple changes

1 - The entry fee will only be $6.00 now . The higher entry fee seemed to cause to much confusion for the players and we want to make it as simple as possible.

2 - At this we allow up to 10 proxies. This will allow players to play a wider variety of decks and not have to be fully invested in the format. This also allows players who own the higher end cards to have a choice of not using them to protect their condition.

3 - Proxies can be done in one of 4 ways
A - Collector's Edition or International Edition
B - Gaming ETC proxy cards that were released years ago of the P9
C- Print outs of the card placed in a sleeve with a MtG card as a backing
D- Taking a basic land and writing out all of the card's information on it. This includes mana cost, power/toughness, full effect word for word, name and any other game information. Also due to how hard it can be to read proxies written on lands any players using this option MUST have all proxied card's text printed out on a sheet of paper for quick access. Tournaments should not be slowed down due to having to look up card text.

Hey guys just a couple updates . First off we will be doing away with Vintage for the foreseeable .

Secondly we have this to announce

TimeZone Gaming Legacy Magic League
Beginning July 19th
Format : Legacy
Time : Pairings for Round 1 are posted at 1:15pm
Entry : $6
Swiss Rounds cut to a Top4/8

We will be holding a 10 week League. Players will earn 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw during the swiss portion of our Saturday Legacy events. To keep it an even playing field for everyone points are not earned during the Top Cut portion of each week.

At the end of the 10 week period we will add up the best 8 performances for each player to determine who will play in a special 8 player tournament. This will eliminate your 2 lowest performances and also means players are not required to make every week just to have a chance. Missed weeks will count towards lowest performances.

Each week we will award half of the entries collected as store credit prizes. The other half will go into the prize pool for the special event at the end of the 10 weeks. Example : 10 players each week means $30 store credit each week in prizes and then a $300 prize pool for the special event.

Hey Akuma, Just curious what the average turnout is for these events nowadays. I am just getting in to legacy and looking for a place to play. Both you and another shop that have legacy are similar distance, but they generally only get 8 - 10 and sometimes don't fire. Was just curious how your turnouts have been.

Akuma doesn't always monitor thread - I'm one of the usual players at the store for Legacy. I would say that the turnout is probably in the 8-12 range generally. I would say that we have a good rate of fire (i.e. sanctioning at 8+ players) at least 80-90% of the time. Only events which would usually stop this are Local SCG events (modern/legacy) and pre-releases. Since most of our legacy players are not Standard players we tend to be unaffected by events which are held on the same day in the area, but are standard events.
