Awesome article, indeed! I'm tinkering with the thought of investing into ANT for a long time now - but i came to the conclusion that no matter which way you see it, it's too expensive. :/

Nah, 4 LED's and Duals are still reasonable compared with FoW's, Jaces, Wastelands, DRS', SFM's, S&T, G.Cradles and other Top Tier Staples.

Thanks guys, happy you like it. :)
As to the deck's price, surprisingly enough Storm decks are one of the cheaper options in the format simply because of the low landcount and not having FoW/Waste.
8 Fetches, 4 Duals (I think you're fine replacing the Badlands from my list with Gemstone Mine when going budget) and 4 LEDs are the only really expensive cards, afaik. At the same time, though, those 16 cards will probably pay your rent for a month or two, so even if they're comparatively cheap, doesn't mean they are. :/ You might want to try to borrow some of the cards for tournaments. A lot of old-school players should have some of these they're not currently using.

Thank you for writing this article. It was very informative.

However, I wish you would've spent more time discussing fighting through counters because it is the area in which I need the most experience.

EDIT: Also TES is even cheaper than ANT since you only use 3 fetchlands and 3 Chrome mox + cheap rainbow lands.

Thanks a lot :) I didn't talk about how to play through anything (a few short comments aside) because, well, the article was about how to go about learning Storm. Sounds like a good subject for the future, though three weeks of Storm are probably enough for right now.

Very true, TES is a little more budget friendly. A good stepping stone to learn and get to play a storm deck even if what you really want is ANT but are strapped for cash.

Getting tired of saying this:
Very good article. Thanks!

Even if you save some bucks off the fewer fetches and duals, TES is a bad deck to LEARN the fundamentals of the archtype. Topic: How to use Silence and SB Engines.

Meh build tes that's what I learned storm with. It takes a bit longer but it's regarding once you learn the deck

@ScatmanX: Thanks, never get tired of hearing it :)

@Lemnear: If you stick to the training regimen I suggest, I don't think learning with TES is significantly worse than learning with ANT. Sure, you also need to figure out Silence and Wish but that's part of understanding the correct lines and goldfishing/playing afterwards until you're proficient. Sure, you will lose a ton of games to misplays but that's kind of in the nature of Storm.

@Megadeus: And here's the proof :p

Figuring out mana colors is what kept me from TES for years. It's tricky when you're not used to counting storm and mana to begin with. Seems like saving $300 on duals isn't worth the steeper learning curve.

Great primer! I kinda wish I had learned storm that way... Playing it at a couple GPs before I understood how to play it well was much more expensive than, well, free.

TES is slightly harder to play, but not nearly as much as you TES players are suggesting.

And every "AnT" deck at this point is really TnT so these lines are already blurred as-is.

Can we just call the IT+PIF+Ritual decks what it really is: Past in Flames Tendrils -- PIFT

Otherwise, great article. I was only able to quickly glance at it earlier, so there's still more I can gleam from it.

As always, thanks for article Carsten. I truly appreciate the move to a weekly schedule as well.

It's News to me that Wish is now the to-go option in ANT over Preordain/LDV/Grim Tutor after being told for years how Wish + PIF + Cabal is crap and how good the UBr manabases are over the UBRg TNT's and how TES is crap because of it's Rainbow lands and Wishes.

I recently started to play Legacy Storm and I enjoyed to read your article. Especially as a new player it was a good read and I definitely leared some things that I will use in my matches. Thanks for the great article and keep up the good work!

@lochlan: How are these decks TNT? Wish version seems less played than no Wish by now.

@phazonmu(t)ant: Thanks :) And if you don't have the 300 bucks (or if you prefer the TES playstyle) I think it very much is worth the steeper learning curve. ;)

@Koby: Thanks, happy you enjoy them. And yes, ANT is ripe for a new name. PIFT seems pretty solid, both as Past in Flames Fetchland Tendrils and simply Past in Flames Tendrils.^^

@Happy83: Thanks, happy to be of help :)

Great article! I think it is cool when writers who understand Legacy promote some of the more obscure archetypes instead of discussing whatever the newest hotness is.

If you ever do a follow-up article on learning storm something that has been really helpful for me is memorizing net mana. For example, Dark Ritual is +2 mana while Cabal Ritual is either +1 or +3. This helps me compute mana totals much more quickly so that I can run through potential lines in my head. I would be interested to see if any other storm players have mental short cuts they use.

(The eleven-card sideboard leaves room for a couple of metagame cards.)

Deceptively simple, but I really wish more deck discussion (especially Legacy-oriented) allowed for the flexibility. It's always amusing to see people play a deck with 4-5 Laser-focused SB cards for a meta that only existed in the deck writer's local game store.

As always, a pleasure to read. Keep up the good work!

Really good gateway drug article, Carsten.

I find what helps me is to practice goldfish games post-board with imaginary points of damage.

Try to go off with an imaginary opponent dropping T2 Thalia/Teeg and them doing 2 points of damage consistently a turn.

It pays to practice post-board also for sideboarding reasons. You want to make sure in a tournament setting that you can do it quickly.
