Heres my goal
Act like rug delver and establish your win condition in the first 3 turns, and do everything in your power to not let your opponent develop a board.
Use burn as reach: options are price of progress, lightning bolt, chain lightning
Draw: ponder and brainstorm maybe even thoughtscour
This isnt u/r delver its u/r tempo blue red delver is more so a burn deck, this list is a land destruction kill your creatures deck
4 delver of secrets
3 grim lavamancer
4 snapcaster mage
4 force of will
4 daze
2 spell pierce
2 spell snare
4 stifle
4 lightning bolt
2 chain lightning
4 brainstorm
3 ponder
2 island
2 mountain
4 volcanic island
4 wasteland
4 scalding tarn
4 misty rainforest
things to watch out for:
Pox or any heavy discard deck, you can come back from it with grim lavamancer or snapcaster but if they sinkhole your basic lands and wasteland your volcs you are in a red zone
engineered plague if they name wizards you are in BIG trouble so always make sure you have countermagic for that sort of thing
batterskull always on my radar so i usually prefer playing smash to smithereens for this sort of thing and then flash it back with snapcaster for swords and stuff like that
rule of thumb for sideboard:
always the following cards:
grafdiggers cage
surgical extraction
flusterstorm
artifact hate
if you dont play these cards the meta decks will walk all over you
let me know what you guys think

Why not just play RUG?
RUG without Nimble Mongoose and Goyf...how is this better than RUG?

you dont lose to wasteland decks as bad and price of progress isnt affecting you
grim lavamancer is better against the fair decks like maverick than nimble mongoose
snapcaster mage brings stifle back and brainstorm which hurts
The list you've posted doesn't play more burn than RUG does and it doesn't play PoP. It's RUG minus the beaters (except for Delver). So Delver is your only real threat. That's not an improvement.
If I want to run a stable manabase and play more burn I'd settle for UR Delver. If I want a tempo shell with LD I go for RUG, as it has the better threats. And seriously, how often do you get blown out by a PoP when playing RUG? Seems like you are doing it wrong.

i never play rug because im not going to drop 2 grand on it, i play price in my sideboard, ive taken first with this deck and with UR delver, my list was pretty much half tempo half burn because i was still playing things like wasteland.
Rug delver is absolutely awful with decks like merfolk and sometimes even goblins, grim lavamancer is outstanding in that match, and being able to shrink your graveyard against tarmogoyf decks is also huge.
Goyf and Mongoose are actually better than some basics in those matchups. Money is not an argument for competitive Magic and with so little threats your opponent just needs removal for Delver and Lavamancer, which is a good creature, but lacks impact with so little burn/aggression. You are out of gas so fast it's like a miracle you didn't experience any problems.
Anyway, you just lack 3 Tropicals and 3-4 Goyfs, so you are not far away from RUG.

i must not have realized that you are an expert of magic the gathering or a grand prix legacy winner.
and yes competitive magic always has a price tag on it, you can be a really good player and win with affinity, you just have to know your cards inside and out.
I know this deck well and i know what to do against what decks, grim lavamancer and delver put your opponent on a fast clock, tarmogoyf isnt the best card printed this deck works with whats in it.

The only reason to play this over Threshold is Young Pyromancer. Cut Delvers for Pyromancers. If you want a Delver deck, play Thresh.

Until someone casts a pyroclasm.
Goyfs good because he's got a huge ass and costs only two mana once. He also wins goblins and fish (how are you not killing island walk lords immediately if you play RUG?) on his own.
Don't even get me started on the greatness of goose.
It sounds like you just resent the high price of legacy and are trying to get around it. You can't. Cards are expensive because they perform efficiently and powerfully. There's no super secret strategy that will turn the format on its head using cards that have been around since innistrad at their newest.

made changes using young pyromancer now it works nicely

Drop the best creature for a tempo deck? I don't think so. Nevertheless, this is still a crippled version of both RUG Delver and UR Delver.
Hi guys, I've been toying with blue red tempo a bit and here is what I'm testing.
4 brainstorm
2 ponder
2 gitaxian probe
4 force
4 daze
4 stifle
1 spellsnare
2 spellpierce
4 bolt
2 forked bolt
4 delver
3 yong pyromancer
2 lavamancer
2 vendilion clique
2 snapcaster mage
4 wasteland
4 scalding tarn
2 volcanic island
1 island
1 mountain
4 assorted fetches (currently 3 blue 1 red)
1 cavern of souls
1 riptide lab
Cavern and riptide are just for test, VS hardcore control that's fun, but useless most of the time.
The things I win not playing canadian : better manabase, submerge proof, chumpblockers, graveyard independence.
Pyromancer has been faster than goyf some times, but a dumb 2/1 some other times.
Ideally I would play magus of the moon in my side to profit from my better manabase.
Anyway still testing because I really would like to find pyromancer on par with the 4 other 2 drop but maybe this is not the right shell.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this just looks like UR Delver to me...?

Ur delver doesn't use mana denial as a strategy but ur tempo uses stifle wasteland and then backs it up with burning creatures and lavmancer delver win
To the other guy I like the cavern idea riptide can work just only with snapcaster of course I'd say go for it personally

for those who were unhappy that i posted this decklist get over it because todd anderson just put up a deck very similar to this build and you all will probably net deck it when he top 8's with it

with the latest results of Young Pyromancer (Grixis Delver 1st @ 01/09 SCG Open), its power have been proved to be what legacy requires.
As the same time Pyromancer decks rise, Imperial Painter and Moon effects are rising and this can be dangerous to run a 3 colours deck.
With that being said, i think that UR Delver Tempo can be a good to go option with that enviroment.
that's the list that i'm testing
4 Scalding Tarn
3 Blue Fetch
1 Red Fetch
3 Volcanic Island
4 Wasteland
2 Island
1 Mountain
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Young Pyromancer
3 Grim Lavamancer
1 Vendilion Clique // Snapcaster Mage (what would be your choice?)
4 Brainstorm
4 Gitaxian Probe
3 Ponder
3 Force of Will
4 Daze
2 Spell Pierce
2 Spell Snare
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Stifle
what you guys think?
p.s. if someone with SCG Premium could post here Todd's UR Delver list i'm sure everybody would appreciate.

i like your list, i would say choose vendilion clique over snapcaster, snapcaster is very good but sometimes you dont have a graveyard because of grim lavamancer.
Capitalization is required when posting on these boards. Use it please. Thanks. -zilla

That very seldom happens with this deck! And I used to play 3 Lavamancers. You have fetch lands and non-instants to remove unless of course you draw 3-4 Snapcaster Mages early on
