I hatehatehatehate silver artifact colors. I'm a brown artifact purest through and through. I've been wondering if there's a way to safely make MTGO use the brown background for artifact cards instead of the silver one. I first started wondering because I saw a painter deck change everything to black.

Anyways, if there's any tech savvy person who knows how to mess with MTGO to achieve the desired affect that'd be great. Also if you know for certain that it isn't possible and would cause crashes feel free to post as well and advise against such changes.

I am aware of the procedure to do this, but haven't tinkered with it. Keep in mind this is only viable on MTHO v3 as of right now.

The process involves manually editing the graphics that MTGO uses to build a card. Each element in the card is modifiable on the client side.

The difficult part is finding which graphic file is the one used for Modern style artifact frames.

I have photoshop o.O if that helps. If you tinker with it to any success I'd love a tutorial or something.

The easiest way possible would be finding the picture used by program to make both new and old artifacts - then change the new one to the old one as well so that they have the same name etc. I don't know how MODO saves the files that it uses or how it secures them, but it might be hard to get hold of those files if they are packaged in some sort of big file, for example how Blizzard stores all the files used by their games in .mpq files.

Success! kind of! I'll need to tweak it a bit but step one is complete.

How did you do it?

On a similar note I'd LOVE to find out where the new Beta version keeps the playmat images so I could throw my favorite pics there instead.

I haven't checked, but I was watching Michael Jacob's stream once and he said that they were stored server side on the beta client. Don't know if it is true, but he does use custom playmats on his old client so I am inclined to think he looked into it.

That's believable and really, really sad. I've spent some time looking and came up with nothing so I guess I'll just give up on it.

Hopefully they'll let you put whatever playmat you want in once the beta goes mainstream, but I doubt they'd ever do that. Especially considering how shitty the beta is right now and how many other things they need to fix first...

With old client it's actually absurdly easy ">_>

WotC > Magic Online > Graphics > Cards > Frames and then you literally just open in PS, select all/delete the image for the new Artifacts and Copy/Paste in the old awesome brown one and Save. I expected it to take a big more digging to find the files, hahaha.

Fun fact: I changed the new frame to the old frame to swag out my painter deck. However, upon naming a color, the frames revert to the newer color frames, I believe its the alara artifact color ones? Just figured I would share.

Were you able to change the card name, card type name, and artist to white to match how the pre-8th artifacts are?
