So, I haven't played EDH for long long time because I don't like the highlander formats really much. Or actually, at all. The only fun I've ever had was playing enchantress EDH and watching people scoop only because they didn't want to play anymore. But now, a lot of my friends do still play highlander so I decided that I could try to make my own, and make it as fun as possible!

While watching the game my friends played I saw that their decks weren't that competitive which is really good, since I just want to have a fun deck which allows me to build a funny voltron which will win me the game. I've always liked Palace Guard and I think I'm ready to try making a highlander around him. So the main plan is this:

Play Palace Guard
Give him absurd stats, first strike, vigilance, deathtouch etc.
Attack enemies and kill them with the immortal Palace Guard
Destroy whoever tries to attack you, regardless of how much attackers there are, Palace Guard shall prevail!
Play Worship just because Palace Guard has risen to the messiah level

This plan has it all: it's super stupid, super fun and so casual that it's like playing farmville in facebook! There are some problems though:

How do I find Palace Guard?
Who is the King/Queen he's protecting?? (Commander)
How to play around Hallowed Burial and sacrifice effects?
What am I doing with my life?
Which artifacts/enchantments are the most bad-ass and worthy of Palace Guard?
We have the cards and we have the technology to build the strongest Palace Guard in history of magic, but how do we do it - as cheap as possible!?

Thanks for reading, hopefully you had a good chuckle and in exchange give few suggestions regarding what cards to play. ;)

1) Green and/or black will allow you to find a single creature easily.

2) Doran, the Siege Tower is the first card that comes to mind, but Ghave, Guru of Spores can buff Palace Guard.

3) You're kind of screwed on Hallowed Burial unless you want to run blue or instant-speed sacrifice effects (Diabolic Edict ho!), but sacrifice effects can be beaten with token production. Ghave can spam saprolings to cover Guard.

4) Paying it to active Necro and/or Unspeakable Symbol.

5) Golem-Skin Gauntlets, yo.

6) Cheap as in real cash monies, or cheap as in for the least amount of mana?

LOL @ thread. Love it.

Silliness to consider

Ghostly Possession
Gaseous Form
Sandskin
Statecraft

Cho-Manno's Blessing
Prismatic Ward

Indestructibility
Shield of Kaldra
Darksteel Plate

Pariah
Inviolability
Mark of Asylum
Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant

Any of these damage prevention effects is pretty hilarious with Palace Guard, especially if you give him flying etc.

To dodge Hallowed Burial, I think you need to give him PHASING -- both an excellent way to dodge removal without losing Auras and also classic flavour for this kind of deck

I might be tempted to play Bant colors to get access to blue counterspells and card draw and some of those blue protection effects. You can protect your enchantments with

Fountain Watch
Sterling Grove
Avacyn, Angel of Hope
etc...

and search for creatures with a ton of tools in GW.
Wall of Glare is a nice back-up plan, especially if you go with black and choose Doran instead :)

EDIT: The new Hundred-Handed guy sort of works as a back-up but is a lot worse than Palace Guard

Also, Flickerform.
Due to the high number of Auras involved, Zur might be the most consistent general to run.

You could go green/white...

Sigarda, Host of Herons gives you both a "queen" to protect and the ability to dodge sacrifice effects...maybe with Tajuru Preserver as backup. In terms of finding Palace Guard, you'll have access to Eladamri's Call, Chord of Calling and Congregation at Dawn. Palace Guard guards the queen, but who guards the guardsman? Saffi Eriksdotter can take that bullet like a champ! If things really go south, Karmic Guide, Reveillark and/or Sun Titan can bring your guard back to life.

In terms of artifacts and enchantments, what kind of guard would he be without a sword or five?! As a bonus, they'll give you relevant protections from would-be attackers and removal. He'll also need some Swiftfoot Boots and Darksteel Plate...after all, what is a guard without some armor?

I read the description carefully.

I have Geist of Saint traft deck in development for few months. I already used Sandskin and Heart of Light with him. Adding Ghostly possession and Gaseous form is still possible, while presence of Palace guard makes it more viable. Also Martyr's Cause with proper token generating can make desired effect.

Just took the deck and start to think a lot about it :) Thanks.

edit: Palace Guard is also interesting with Deathtouch.
