Didn't see a thread for this, but the 2014 Schedule is now up.

http://wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/263e

So many limited events.

Legacy Events:

February 14-16, 2014 Paris France Legacy
November 14-16, 2014 New Jersey USA Legacy

Really wish one of Portland/Sacramento were at least Modern instead of Sealed for both.

Sad to say, but Atlanta and Denver did not deliver on results. It didn't help that those locations sucked when they picked their dates, but complaining isn't going to fix the Legacy attendance problem post humously.

Jersey sucks. But it may line up well with Eternal Champs if Nick Coss continues to run it in early November. *hint hint*

Jersey seems like a poor location. Atlanta seems worse.

Historically, most of the North American legacy GPs have been midwest or East Coast, I assume because of the huge population centers and communities there. NJ seems not as great as some other places on the East Coast, but I suppose it's one that's fairly easy to get to for most people on the East coast and an international hub for everyone else. (Probably why Atalanta was picked previously)

Now I just have to workout how to tell the SO I'm taking her for a romantic trip to Paris on Valentine's Day... oh but baby, I gotta go play legacy for 2 days right after.

im liking Jersey. but its only cause its a little cheaper to fly there, than say, sacramento.

woulda preferred miami for an east-coast location, but cant have it all. strongly considering attending. I hope it will get paired w. some starcity event close by for the doubleslam.

also, 21 north american GPs.

12 european GPs. Makes no effing sense. really.

Based on attendance, distance or travel expense. They cut our nationals, then this again

I'll probably end up going to Jersey.
Not that far of a drive from here.

Pretty sure I'll be at GP Paris.
We got BoM-Paris a few months earlier... not sure if both is worth it, though.

I think that the amount of limited events in comparison with the amount of constructed events is dissapointing.
Yes, it makes it more attractive to entry-to-mid level players and follows up with the current marketing plan WotC has with their GP/PT (the whole "be part of it" and "you could be on the next pro tour" promotion) but the trend we all feared is slowly coming to an age. WotC is trying to push legacy out of the picture and make modern THE eternal format.

Shitty.

I'll just stick to Starcitygames, I see them doing a lot more than 2 Legacy events in 2014. Since they'll never do a pro tour Legacy, I have no desire to "push for pro" or whatever officially. But I understand why that'll never happen, at least Legacy still has a home elsewhere.

Atlanta was fucking miserable. 45C (110F+) all weekend with very high humidity (nice foils bro) outdoors in a sketchy part of the city far away from the airport.

Denver's redeeming feature was the Colorado auctioneer's convention going on at the same time.

Hopefully the only reason why WotC chose to have only 1 Legacy GP in NA next year is cause they told SCG to ramp up the Legacy (doubtful :/)

On a completely different note...GP: Phoenix. Weeeeeeeeeeee

Those hats...

I live less than half an hour from Jersey and still groaning. There is nowhere really in Jersey I want to spend a weekend that isn't like Wildwood or Cape May (and even then November isn't known for beach weather)

Would have loved to have it in some North American city i have yet to visit. While more expensive, flying out and rooming up with friends in a new place is a lot of fun

Shitty....except they also decreased the number of Modern GPs.

I think they try to have less constructed GP since Modern Masters was such a success. I doubt we can have 4000 players to a Legacy event. Anyone can play sealed so it has bigger attendance. I feel the game is more and more designed for limited. It is normal that their tournaments follow by being mostly limited.

I live within three hours of three of them (Richmond, DC, Philly), but I have drill during all of them. And the GP DC coming up. One of these days I'll play again.

Hey guys:

I am extremely excited about GP: New Jersey next year, because we were selected at the Tournament Organizer to run that Grand Prix! (We're also running Richmond and Orlando). I know we're going to do our best on all three of these Grand Prixs, but I personally have a special spot in my heart for the first Legacy Grand Prix that SCG has been given to run!

I doubt we can have 4000 players to a Legacy event.I doubt we can have 4000 players to a Standard event, to a Modern Event, or to a Sealed event that isn't Modern Masters. The Las Vegas Grand Prix had its enormous turnout because (1) Modern Masters was in very high demand, and (2) it was the only Grand Prix of its type. You're not going to see that kind of attendance for Theros Sealed, I can tell you that.

Anyone can play sealed so it has bigger attendance.
You know, I'd be interested in seeing if there's any actual data backing that up.

Limited is like two immensely powerful planeswalkers fighting to the death armed only with assorted gardening tools found in someones garage. It might or might not be fun to play, but it is definitely not fun to watch.

That's not entirely true. Watching a draft occur in realtime is pretty interesting. However, the game play is boring, uninteresting, and generally not worth the time to follow.

Congrats! I've heard you run good events, I'm sure you'll do great! Thanks for dropping in to share a personal touch with us legacy fogeys

I was really disappointed to see only 2 Legacy GPs, but thanks to trevaftw for putting it in perspective. Constructed magic is less accessible, no doubt, but nearly all the people that write articles for major websites have mentioned that Legacy is the best format at one point so it's not like it's obscure. I'm about to tweet Helene about how I feel, I'd encourage all of you with twitter accounts to do the same. In the past she's shown that she's responsive to tweets, so it certainly can't hurt to make sure she knows that people care about Legacy.

Good for you.

I live within 7 hours of NONE OF THEM! The closest being the 8 hour drive to utrecht, followed by 11 hours to Paris.

Yeah that is true, unfortunately the actual draft is such a small portion of the overall tournament.

It's not a good for me because I won't be able to make any of them due to some training for the military. It's almost like my unit and Wizards coordinate together to ensure I don't play in any of these things.

I despise limited. I wish Wizards would up the count on Legacy.... Modern at least? None of them are really in a location that I can travel to. Boo:rolleyes:
