Here's my quick and dirty report from today's 38-man Legacy at Knight Ware, Inc. in Studio City, CA.
List:
3 Vendilion Clique
1 Venser, Shaper Savant
3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
1 Elspeth, Knight Errant
2 Entreat the Angels
4 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Counterbalance
3 Swords to Plowshares
3 Terminus
1 Misdirection
3 Force of Will
1 Spell Pierce
1 Counterspell
1 Spell Snare
1 Mana Leak
4 Brainstorm
1 Snapcaster Mage
1 Wear//Tear
4 Island
2 Plains
2 Tundra
1 Volcanic Island
1 Plateau
1 Arid Mesa
4 Flooded Strand
4 Scalding Tarn
2 Karakas
1 Mystic Gate
Sideboard:
1 Wear//Tear
2 Moat
1 Supreme Verdict
1 Pyroclasm
4 Rest in Peace
3 Red Elemental Blast
2 Blood Moon
1 Misdirection
Happenings:
Round 1 - Shardless BUG
Game 1 was won off an Entreat for 4 the turn his Liliana reached 5 counters.
Side in: 2 Blood Moon, 1 Misdirection, 2 Moat, 2 Rest in Peace, 3 REB
Side out: I can't really remember, probably 4 Counterbalance, 3 Swords to Plowshares, 3 Force of Will?
Game 2 he kept a 2 lander that went T1 suspend Visions, T2 Goyf, T3 Goyf, but he never saw a third land. By the end of the game, both his lands were mountains, anyway. Jace, Elspeth, and Blood Moon got there (shocker).
It's really relaxing to play against a blue deck with only 4 counterspells. Highlights were getting to Misdirect an Abrupt Decay from an angel to Liliana in game 1 and getting to Misdirect an Ancestral Vision to me in game 2.
Round 2 - Death and Taxes
Game 1 I stabilized at 5 life with a Jace behind 3 Angels, but didn't feel comfortable attacking until the other 6 angels showed up. Revoker on Top is a pain in the butt.
Side in: 2 Moat, Verdict, Pyroclasm, Wear//Tear
Side out: 4 Counterbalance, 1 Misdirection (I think. I didn't start taking pictures of my siding until round 3)
Game 2 he inexplicably cast a Chalice of the Void for 1 on turn 2. My hand was Moat, Moat, Verdict, Force, Jace, Clique, Land, so I really didn't care. He proceeded to draw 1-drops and couldn't even plow my clique that beat him to death.
Round 3 - Reanimator (budget manabase, but the spells looked legit[ish])
Game 1 he made a turn 2 Griselbrand and was able to Force my Terminus on turn 4, but I found the Karakas to bounce. Angel of Despair killed the Karakas, Gris came back, but he couldn't find the Force for my second Terminus. Clique only needed to swing twice because of all the damage my opponent had done to himself.
Side in: Verdict, 3 Red Blast, 4 Rest in Peace
Side out: 2 Entreat, 3 Swords to Plowshares, 1 Snapcaster Mage, 1 Wear//Tear, 1 Elspeth
Game 2 was already locked up when I noticed my opponent's cards were marked. Clique showed me his hand of blanks, Jace fatesealed to reveal an Extirpate, which I let him have. Then, when he main-phased the Extirpate on my Top, I noticed it wasn't double-sleeved like the rest of his cards. I asked if all of his sideboard was that way, and he said, "yeah, I ran out of time." Fortunately, the judge realized the guy was new and only gave him a game-loss and not a DQ. I felt icky even calling the judge, but competitive REL and all.
Round 4 - UWr Miracles
Game 1 was a long back and forth where he had Counterbalance/Top, we both had Jace, we both had VClique (until he had to pick his up for a FoW), and we both had Karakas. He was Scrying while I was Brainstorming, and he was going to win with Jace if I didn't find a non-legendary threat to attack past his Karakas. When Jace was at 9 counters, I stuck a Counterbalance (I think), and my opponent gave up Scrying in exchange for Brainstorming himself, completely removing the pressure. Soon enough, though, five end-step angels won the game.
Side in: 1 Wear//Tear, 3 REB
Side out: 1 Misdirection, 3 Swords to Plowshares
Game 2 he had a million blue spells but was short on blue mana. I beat for a bunch of turns with a Clique until I could exhaust his counters, then made one angel and won the game.
Round 5 and 6, IDed into the top 8, then we all split and went home.
