So I searched a lot and could not find a precise answer for this one.

I play Bloodbraid Elf and cascade into Fire Covenant.

I know that you Cascade only relieve of the MANA cost, and spells with X in the mana cost (such as GSZ) will have X=0.

But Fire covenant is an additional costs just like Kicker, which Cascade doesnt relieve you of.
Am I correct that I can cascade into Fire Covenant and play it and announce for example X=5 to murder my opponents, say, tombstalker?

Thanks

Since X is not in the mana cost, you can pick it as you cast the spell. Rule 107.3b does not apply.

107.3b If a player is casting a spell that has an {X} in its mana cost, the value of X isn't defined by the text of that spell, and an effect lets that player cast that spell while paying neither its mana cost nor an alternative cost that includes X, then the only legal choice for X is 0. This doesn't apply to effects that only reduce a cost, even if they reduce it to zero. See rule 601, "Casting Spells.

seems really good against several decks.... elves, goblins, D&T, Even can get the best of maverick. Can kill a griselbrand. Yeah those bigger creatures suck but its like taking 1 ht from it. Against gobs and elves and D&T it'll prob win u the game. Just ordered myself a bunch for a quarter each.

MURDERS merfolk with phantasmal image.

I am really happy when SBing it in against pyrodecks, especially the grixis version: shoot your pyro, snap, bob and 2 tokens. Thank you!

Ah I was curious about this exact interaction myself (BBE -> Fire Cov) as I was looking for a good one-sided multi-target creature removal spell. Going to try a couple in the SB!
