3 weeks eh?
We have approx. 5 weeks before DC.
Is there a light of hope?
If you'll recall, I said there was bad news and good news, but I never said what the good news was. The bad news was that they wouldn't be done for GP: DC, and the good news is that I thought GP: DC was on the 15th of this month, not next month.
So yes, there's a light of hope. I'll do whatever I can to get one to people who want one for the GP.

Hi! I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that the playmats won't be done by GP: DC. The turnaround time at the print shop won't allow it. That said, they have been ordered, and I should have them in 2-3 weeks. As soon as they arrive, I'll post here to let you know how to get one (or three). Thanks for your patience!
Will there be a finite number of these available? Can I get on a list, if there is one? How will that work?

Any news on price and quantity available? (Per person or w/e)

The initial print run is 100. I suspect they'll go pretty quickly, but the printing cost me several hundred bucks out of pocket, so I opted not to order a huge number in advance. Proceeds from the first printing can bankroll further printings. Still working out the exact price, but I can tell you it won't be more than the cost of a good quality playmat you'd find anywhere else. Cost of shipping will likely be rolled into the price. This isn't 100% set in stone, but it will likely be mat price + $5 shipping in the US, and mat price + $10 shipping for international, as I believe these are the flat shipping rates through USPS.
I don't want to take orders for them until I actually have the physical product in my hands and I know they're up to snuff, but if you're going to the GP and really want to have one for it, shoot me a PM about it and I'll put you on a list to (hopefully) make sure we can make it happen.

lol. Good point. Try again.
Can we at least prioritize those who have donated to keep the site up by giving them first dibs?
Zilla
10-04-2013, 03:43 PM
That seems reasonable. Ultimately I think everyone that wants them is going to have them. The reason GP goers want priority is because they have a deadline. My hope is that we can accommodate them AND Site Contributors, particularly since there's going to be a lot of crossover between the two groups. Based on how GP goers + Site Contributors want them, we may limit quantity per person at the outset. Hopefully this won't be necessary.

As soon as they arrive I'll tell you everything you need to know to make it happen. If you're going to GP: DC and you really want to have one in time for it, shoot me a PM now and I'll add you to a list.
Right now priority goes: Site Contributor going to GP, Member going to GP, Site Contributor, Member. The goal is to make sure that everyone going to the GP that wants one can have one for it. If necessary, we'll limit to one the number people can order for the GP specifically, and they can order more from a following print run.

Just got some quotes on shirts. 10-30 bucks depending on if we want nice printing, or cheap printing. From what I could gather the 20-30 dollar shirts would look MUCH nicer. If there is interest i will inquire more.

C'mon, if you can drop thousands of dollars for duals lands, you aren't going to cheap out on a T-Shirt to save 10 bucks.

Still waiting for the mats to arrive. Last I heard from the printer they were supposed to ship on the 23rd. With any luck they'll be arriving any day now. Also ordered 100 mailing boxes from USPS, so we need to wait for those to arrive as well, but hopefully they'll all get here around the same time. Barring any unseen clusterfuckery, we should still be on track to get people their mats before the GP. I assure you that you guys will know the moment the mats arrive. =)

As much as I'd love to take bribes, we're going to keep it on the up-and-up, so it will be first come, first served. The price will be very reasonable. The primary goal here is to give the community something they really want, not to reap a giant profit.
Here's how things are going to work:
As soon as the mats arrive and I'm sure that I'm happy with their quality, I will make a new closed, stickied thread announcing their arrival. At that time, anyone that wants one (or more) can PM me, and I will reply with exact instructions on what information I need from you, (address, number of mats desired, etc.), how much they cost, and how to make a payment.
We have roughly 25 mats (out of the initial 100) reserved for people going to the GP. The remaining mats will go to the first people that ask for them, with priority given to Site Contributors. That's the closest thing you can get to a bribe here, but it's largely symbolic; a donation of any amount, even a dollar, is enough to get you added to that group. We just want to show our thanks to the members who went above and beyond and made a gesture of support by donating to keep the site running and ad-free.
Proceeds from the initial print run will go towards a consecutive run, so if you don't manage to get in on the first run, don't worry, we'll do our best to make sure that everyone that wants one will get one.
If you have any specific questions about this stuff, you can PM me about it and I'll do my best to answer.
Also, while I was typing this, I got an email from the printer saying that the order is taking longer than expected and that it hasn't been shipped yet. So... fuck, I guess. I'll still do whatever I can to make sure we get them to people in time for the GP, but this may be cutting it kinda close. :(
I'll keep you posted.

Yes, and it sucks. They've had a materials shortage, and our order won't ship until the 7th. Nice fucking 35 day turnaround, guys! Anyway, it is what it is.
I've sent a PM to everyone who's said they were going to GP: DC and wanted a playmat. There's a fairly good likelihood that I won't be able to get playmats to you guys in time for the GP, but I'm damn well going to try. There are instructions in the PM for what you need to do. If you're going to the GP and you didn't get a message from me, send me a PM about it.
For everyone else, I'll let you know what to do as soon as the mats arrive.
Hellspawn, we should still be on track to get you and Einherjer your mats in time for GP: Vienna.

As far as somebody in the Pacific Northwest being able to ferry mats to GP:DC, I know phazonmutant is headed there with a couple more Seattle guys. He may be willing to lend a hand. I won't know the exact amount for shipping until I receive the mats (I don't know how much they weigh exactly,) but international shipping is likely to be roughly $10 per order, plus an additional $5 per mat beyond the first. Please don't hold me to this exact number until I've actually had a chance to weigh the mats, though.

I have some good news and some... no, it's just good news, actually.
I've been emailing back and forth with the printers for the last few days to see if there's anything we can do to get the mats here sooner. Their rep just emailed me to let me know that they've shipped 30 of the 100 mats overnight, which means they should be arriving tomorrow afternoon. My personal playmat elf (aka my lovely wife) will start preparing packages for shipping as soon as they arrive, and we'll send them out Saturday morning. That means (barring unforeseen problems) they should arrive at their destinations by next Wednesday, in time for the GP.
IF YOU'RE GOING TO GP: DC AND YOU HAVEN'T RESPONDED TO MY PM WITH YOUR SHIPPING INFORMATION ETC., PLEASE DO SO ASAP SO I CAN GET YOU YOUR MAT IN TIME. IF YOU DIDN'T GET A PM FROM ME ABOUT IT, PM ME NOW.
The rest of the mats will ship tomorrow and should arrive sometime next week, at which point I'll give everyone that's said they want one the info they need to order one. Unless I've done my math very very poorly, there should be enough mats to cover everyone who's said they want one so far. We probably have enough to cover about 30 more beyond that. If we run out of those, we will definitely be doing a second print run to cover those who missed out the first time around.

Awesome! Thanks for putting in all of this effort.

We're shipping worldwide. If the US Postal Service goes there, we will ship to it. Still deciding on pricing. International Shipping costs tend to vary widely. We may simply do international shipping on a case-by-case basis, where we have you send us your address and the number of mats you want, and we send you a PM with the total cost for mat(s) + shipping.
We're not doing it this way in the states because a) we have a lot more local orders than international and it's easier to do a fixed price for a large number of orders, and b) the variance in price isn't that much. In some cases it's a little under $6 per mat, in some cases it's a little more, so it pretty much averages out.
International, on the other hand, you have orders to Canada that might ship for like $9, while an order to Australia might ship for $15. That's a pretty wide disparity, so it probably makes more sense to deal with it on a case-by-case basis.

Yes it is. I'll PM instructions to everyone next week.
That said, assuming everyone that's said they want one so far actually buys one, we're already about 10 people past the initial print run of 100. We'll get them squared away, and then try to gauge how many more people are interested, in order to figure out how big the second order should be. I want to make sure everyone that wants one gets one, but I also don't want to end up with a giant pile of extra playmats, since I'm paying for the printing out of pocket.
I apologize for any delays, but I'll do everything in my power to ensure that every person that wants a mat will get one.

Hi, quick update:
We sent out our last shipment of GP playmats today. They should be arriving on Thursday. I'll send out tracking numbers to people whose orders shipped today.
As for the rest mats in the first run, they should be arriving tomorrow or the next day. Unfortunately, the fucking post office only sent us 20 of the 100 shipping boxes we asked for, so while we'll have the mats in a day or two, we won't be able to ship them until they send us more packaging, which should be early next week. Sorry for the delay. This is my first time shipping large volumes of stuff, so we're still learning the ropes. I appreciate everyone's patience.
For everyone that hasn't already done so, if you want a mat, post here and say how many you want. That will give me a solid idea of how many I should order in the second print run. I'm keeping a list of everyone who's posted here saying they want one (or more). Opportunity to order will be first post, first served, with priority for site contributors as a thank you for their support. If you want to contribute to the site, you can make donations via paypal to patrick.maeder2@gmail.com. If you do, be sure to include your Source username in the paypal notes so I can add you to the Contributors group.
Don't worry though, you'll get a playmat either way. :)

I'd like to double-check if I'm in the first run or the second. My original request was made here (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?26766-Donate-Button-Source-Playmat-T-Shirt-Discussion&p=764044#post764044) on 11/6. Thanks!

I want to make sure everyone is absolutely clear, since there's some mixing of terminology going on. Let me just give a rundown:
The first printing batch contained 100 mats. Because there was a rush to get mats to people in time for the GP, the printer agreed to overnight 30 of those 100 to me so I could mail them to GP goers.
The remaining 70 mats have yet to arrive (they're coming in the next couple days). They are spoken for, but no one outside of GP attendees have received information on how to order one yet. For example, danyul, you're still on track to get your mats out of the first print run. In fact, all of the Site Contributors who have said they wanted mats will get theirs out of the first print run. A few non-members of the Site Contributors group are also on track to get their mats out of the first print run.
Those that don't get in on the first print run will be able to get them out of the second. I'll do my best to make sure the second order contains enough mats to get everyone else that wants one in the immediate future. It will probably take another month or so to get that order processed and shipped, but we should be able to get them before Christmas.
I feel bad that some people are getting them right away and others have to wait, but the first run was sort of a trial... I wanted to make sure that the mat quality was good, and that the print quality matched our expectations before investing too much money in a giant order. I'm pleased to say that the quality is outstanding. The mats look and feel really nice.
If it makes you guys feel any better, I'm waiting to take my mat until the second print run, so I'm definitely motivated to get it done quickly.

It's close, but I think you're going to make it in on the first batch. You're 10th in line for normal members, and there are about 52 going to Site Contributors. I believe we have 74 mats left in the first print run, so you should be under the wire on it.

Hi Zilla
First of all, thanks for doing this. Amazing stuff.
I'm mostly a reader of this forum. It has great content and I really enjoy learning more than writing my self.
I have no idea if what line I'm waiting in, or when I would be able to buy the mat, but I'm ok waiting until the second print run. I really don't need it that fast since I'm not going to any major tournaments before christmas. I would love to get it early, but if it helps you out or makes you able to get yours first, I'm fine waiting.
From Norway, thanks to everyone making me better at magic by discussing and providing great content.

IRT shirts, are you thinking about cotton T-Shirts or come polyester collared golf type shirts? My lifestyle is currently in the 0-2 bracket as far as financial security is concerned so my wardrobe better supports T-Shirts with graphics on them, because I am an adult child. Some of our more successful members might prefer the collared style shirts.

I has a tracking number. This makes me happy.
I think the irony will be that by the time I get my mats, Modern will be the format I will be playing the most thanks to shifting house. Can not wait to show up at a small Modern event, with fully built Jund and a Legacy play Mat.
Also thinking, if people as questions I might try and run a small event. Shop willing.

Appreciate the volunteering, Josh, but I think we're solid. My wife has set up a production line in the basement, haha.
We could save you some shipping costs on your order if you want to meet up and pick up your mats in person, though. We'll do whatever we can to get you at least one mat in time for Christmas for your son. :)

The Mats where by far the best idea for making money for this site I think. They are a badge of honor for those of us that frequent the site and use it help to update our decks. Also it's always good to have an interesting and unique Mat.

When do we wage war on themanadrain and mtgsalvation?
Lesser known fact: The Source started out as the Type 1.5 subfoum on themanadrain. We eventually broke off and started our own forum with blackjack and hookers.
If we wage war on themanadrain, it amounts to patricide.

Alright, here's an update for you guys: We have the remaining mats, and we got all the boxes we need from the postal service.
Instructions on how to order will be delivered by PM, and here's why: we have a limited number of mats currently available, and I only want to take money for mats we actually have available to ship. I don't want people to send money and then have to wait a month for the printers to process and send us a new order. I want people to know that if they send money for mats, that those mats will be shipped within a week at most. If the ordering instructions are public, then everyone orders at once, and some people get them right away, while others get stuck waiting, which would obviously be really disappointing.
So the way we're handling it is this: I'm sending out ordering instructions to people in batches. I have no way of knowing exactly how many mats each person will order, so I can't do huge groups at a time without fear of accidentally taking money for more mats than we have. Once I've heard back from all the people in one batch, I move on to the next batch, and so on. As stated previously, Site Contributors are getting priority on orders, but aside from that, it's first asked first served, so someone who said "I want one" a month ago is in line ahead of someone that said they wanted one yesterday.
We sent out a big batch of orders yesterday, and everyone in that order got PMs with their tracking numbers. If you haven't received a PM with ordering instructions, it doesn't mean you won't. We have (if I'm not mistaken) 30 mats left out of the first run of 100. Also, we WILL be doing a second run. I'll be putting in the order soon - I'm just trying to determine exactly how many more to order. We're already at least 50 or 60 mats requested past the initial 100.
This undertaking is a logistical challenge, and it's really important to me that everyone's expectations are met, which means no promises unless I'm 100% sure we can deliver. Thanks everyone for your patience.

They're 14" x 24" and 1/16" thick. For the record, they look and feel bad ass. I was genuinely surprised at how nice they turned out when I first pulled them from the box. To my knowledge, everyone that's gotten one so far has been really pleased with it.

Just a heads up - I put in the order for the second run of mats today. Barring any unforeseen clusterfuckery, I should have the second run before the 15th of next month, which means we should be able to ship in time for Christmas. If you want one and haven't said so yet, now's a super good time to do it.
Just picked mine up from the postal office. #HYPE

It's not impossible... if the second order shows up by the 10th, I can try to send out some Christmas packages the next day. I don't know how long it would take to ship to Germany, but it would have 2 weeks to get there before Christmas.

Just to reiterate (because this thread is super long) - I'm not sending out ordering instructions to people unless we actually have playmats immediately available to send to them. I don't want people to have to wait more than a week for us to ship their order once they've made a payment.
Everyone that says they want one here gets added to my list. As soon as I'm sure we have mats available to send when you order, you'll be PMed with instructions on how to order. We're getting the next print run sometime around December 10th, and right now we have more than enough in that run to cover everyone that's said they want one.
There are still about 10 mats left out of the first run, but I'm waiting to hear back from a few people who have been sent instructions to see if they still want to order. (Speaking of which, check your inbox Whippoorwill, Aggro_zombies and infant_no_1.)
TLDR; You will receive a PM with ordering instructions just as soon as I have mats I can put in a box and ship to you. Thanks very much for your patience.
