Bump bump bumpity bump.

Can't wait for this event. I'm not a big fan of traveling so it's definitely great for me if there were more big tournaments in CT around my way.

Question: If the 1st place winner doesn't want to go to GP: DC, can they receive $200/400 + an alternate prize for the 2 round-bye?

I'm sure you could work out a split of some sort if that's the case.

That sounds to me like a prize split discussion before the final match, just make sure you don't offer a prize split incorrectly - judges tend to get really grumpy about it.

So long as all members remaining of the event agree on a split or change in prize structure, you are allowed to change the structure. Also so long as the tournament organizer allows it. Example, SCG won't let 2nd place get more prize than 1st.
