Thanks Sam for grinding out this podcast in the tempo oriented midrange, whilst getting value.
Edit: also, minor correction the decklist says 1st place -- I split the finals with Adrian Becker running Torture Chamber Shops.

Congrats on your success at Gencon, Sean.
I wish I could have listened to this podcast before SCG Filthy - ahem, SCG Philly - seeing as it was my first big Legacy event and I had butterflies in my stomach for the entire first half of the day. My first round opponent was a 13 year old boy, half my age, and I was the one telling the kid I was nervous since I was playing in my first Open lol. Eventually I was able to relax and enjoy what I came to play, which was Legacy.
I wholeheartedly agree with Sean's advice on eating a hearty breakfast. Despite being so nervous, I was still able to concentrate in games because I just had a lot of energy and I wasn't thinking about food during my rounds.

I eat like four bowls of cereal before an open and that lasts me until my friends drop and get me food

I liked the Gencon portion of the podcast.
When Matt says "I mean..." what does he mean?

Doesn't that make you have to poop around round 2?

Great podcast as usual. I always love hearing about vintage, especially when it's not just about workshops or tendrils decks. There are plenty of scientific publications to back up the claims of mild dehydration affecting cognitive performance so thank you for addressing that. It's such a small thing that makes a huge difference.

We would do vintage more but I think
a) it's a smaller crowd that's interested
b) podcast members don't get to play it as much (I've been fortunate to get to play almost every week the past couple months)
c) there are a couple of really good pods focused just on vintage (So Many Insane Plays, Serious Vintage)
Don't want to get into it that much on "your source for legacy" but if there is more demand we could cover it a bit more, cover results ... maybe have a segment called "Vintage Deck of the Week" or something. Vintage right now is a ton more interesting than Legacy in terms of variance and interesting play lines.

I agree on all of those points. The other eternalcentral podcasts on vintage are fantastic....but only new episodes about once a month or so for each. I think it would be awesome if there was even just a 5-10 minute segment every other show that discusses some of the new card inclusions for established decks or new takes on decks for vintage. Sort of how on the episode discussing young pyromancer Matt and Sam touched on how it was included in the gush deck. It fit quite well into their discussion and didn't take away from the points they were trying to make. I'm on the long road to power, but it's still very entertaining to hear about the format and awesome games using powerful cards.

I agree with this. Just something as small as a every other podcast rundown of some interesting vintage lists or new cards being used in vintage would be something I would be excited to listen to.

It's your 'filler pause' or 'filler word' or discourse marker ... I'm pretty certain I 'uh' ... Don't worry almost everybody has them. It takes a conscious effort to do a focused pause rather then sub your favorite filler (uh, um, cunt, i mean, andddddddddd, soooooo).
I'm sure somebody with a useless liberal arts degree like communications or Engrish can fill us in.

I would love to hear your guys opinions on the "Show And Order" Deck.
List for reference: http://tcdecks.net/deck.php?id=10583&iddeck=77197
Also really looking forward to that midrange episode, as well as a tempo and/or aggro oriented episode.

A deck only made possible with 4 x Brainstorm. I think over 9 rounds you'd get some atrocious hands.

I think this was the best episode so far, especially the section about deck selection/possible brews etc. The later part about preparing for an event was probably geared towards newer/younger players but I really enjoyed the discussion up until that point. Felt more natural and much less formal than the previous episodes.

Great Podcast as usual.
I totally agree in the fact that moving a succesfull list to an unknown/different meta is a really bad call. We actually discussed about this not too long ago (m1n1l337 and myself)

Unknown metas are hard, and so is the converse, an unknown deck in a known meta.
Thinking like a biologist (since now, I officially am one), a deck is only good because it thrives in a certain niche that is under certain selective pressures. If an organism doesn't adapt to certain pressure within an environment, it may be outcompeted for resources.
But, if an organism is transplanted into a system that does not pressure the organism, and it is not being selected against, then the unknown contender may have a fighting chance. The meta reacts to a deck to make it a bad choice solely due to that deck's own presence. If that deck isn't there, it won't be selected against.
Imagine 2010 when NO Bant was a deck. The deck is deemed no longer good because it faded out of existence at that time due to other decks reacting to its plays. But, decks nowadays don't have an angle against that deck because they've never been exposed to it; they've never had to face it. NO Bant is a measles outbreak in 2013, preying upon those without the vaccination.
I think any deck that was good at some point in the metagame that hasn't been nullified by a certain widely played card or strategy in the current metagame has a fighting chance since people won't see it coming.
