First round: Elves

I know this player and he plays Elves pretty good. I kept a hand with mox, grove, punishing fire...

T1 DRS.... I put my Punishing Fire online.... T2 fyndhorn and he drops a dryad arbor... I wasteland'ed his land and burn his elve... at this moment I have my manabase almost complete and he only has 3 cards in hand. In some point he glimpse and put a Sentinel, Visionary x2, Llanowar .... next turn he sac a fetch land and I say ok.... he drop a Gaea's Cradle (this didnt give me any priority) he generates 5... NATURAL ORDER! I was almost tapped out because I killed a Wirewood Symbionte last turn. He fetched a Craterhoof (with the trigger in the stack I thought I could Punishing Fire one of them... but then I realized my KOTR would trade 1/1 with the smallest of his army) and attacks. Im in 18 lifes and he is attacking with a 9 power, two 5/5s and the sentinel 6/6.... I have a 5/5 Reliquary.... I wastelanded my karakas (leaving me just the grove open) I blocked the sentinel 6/6 with my now 7/7 KOTR and fetch my maze for Craterhoof... taking 11 damage. Next turn I burn every creature leaving just the 5/5 alive... this is a no turn point and I won the game.

-4 Chalice of the void +1 Gaddock Teeeg +1 Canonist +2 Thoughtseize

Game 2 the started with GSZ into Dryad... I play a turn 1 Gaddock Teeg... he starts with his elves shenanigans... but Im a little calm because of my gaddock teeg (I know he sideboarded in abrupt decay but I leaste I have a couple of turns before that happens).... once he stabilize his combo... I drop down a Reliquary with dreams and take the game... He show me his hand with the complete combo (natural order, green sun zenith, etc).

Round two: RUG Delver

I always play with this guy and he plays a several of differents decks. He also know I only play Loams decks.

He T1 put a Wooded Foothills... I play a Chalice on T1 (I know he can daze, spell pierce at this point but I drew two chalice and I need to go foward... landing a KOTR is almost as important as Chalice, except the last one win games). He turn2 goyf.... ok now I play my second chalice with a wasteland open and it pass! Took his tropical away (because now reach doesnt matter but a second goyf is possibly). He attacks for 3 (lands, spell pierce and chalice) leaving me at 17. I loam with no third land drop... he daze my loam... ok... now he attacks with 4 leaving me at 13.... and drop a second goyf... I drew a card because I have a Abrupt Decay in hand and drawing a land is not imposible haha I drew the land and pass.... he attacks with both goyfs... i take one down and went to 8... now I drop my KOTR and take the game.

-1 Karakas -1 Gaddock Teeg +2 Thoughtseize

Game 2 he had bad luck with his opening hands... mull to four! (he show me the 5 cards hand with 3 FOW and 2 Surgical). The game was pretty short with loam and wasteland lock.

Round 3: Elves

This guy used to play Goblins and this is the first time I saw him with Elves. We had a delay calling the judge because he didnt like the way I shuffle my deck. The judge saw ask me if I saw my opening hand and I didnt (I always leave my opening hand face down until my oponent keeps his hand (he won the dice)). So the judge stay there and watch my shuffling and make me draw 7... my oponent say something about I should mull to 6 at least... at this point Im not happy.

First game he drops a land and pass.... I turn1 Sylvan Library (my opening hand have mox, lands, sylvan and burning wish... perfect against this MU). He puts a lot of creatures on play (ranger, wirewood, visionary, dryad arbor, drs, etc) and attacks with almost everything... in first instance I put 2 card on top of mine, but then I told him I would take a minute to see how I was going to block, because the attacked with his cards pile into each other, so I changed my block into sentinel and DRS... he says if I change my block, he would change his attacks (now he want to attack with the dryad arbor too) and I told him that step just past and he cannot attack with the dryad... I have to call the judge again and this one took almost 10 minutes to arrive, making me block as the first instance and leaving the dryad untapped. I need to draw a fourth land (I had none important spells in hand and the burning wish... my sylvan library was showing me just mox diamonds, KOTR and other stuff...I took 12 lifes from my Library and I didnt saw any new land). At this point I have Gaddock Teeg in play and my KOTR... so I generate R with Taiga... fetch with KOTR a fetchland then a plateau, generates 1RRR for wish into dreams for 3... he in response tooks back a forest (with ranger) and a DRS with Wirewood. Next turn he plays his DRS.... I attack with a 5/5 KOTR.... he drew a ranger... play the ranger... remove 1 land from my GY with drs.... Untapped him... take another land and plays his land into wirewood... Here I commited my first mistake of the tournament (I was pretty tilt with all this judge calls). I attacked with my KOTR and got "maze" with ranger bounce. Next turn he generates 4 mana into Natural order and attacks with a 6/6 and a 3/3 (I was at 8) and GG.

Game 2 (same SB in out of round 1)

I have punishing fire engine online... but I had only 10 minutes (from a 50 minutes round) to win 2 games.... So I play this match just if I had 30 minutes... I took everydown with punishing fire... at some point the judge says there's three minutes left... I had lethal damage with my punishing fire... but I was just drawing cards and pass the turns until time and then kill him. I did this because he can win in 2-4 turns and I cant... he could concede in game 2 but he choose not to... fuck him.

Round 4: Countertop w/ Dreadnought Combo.

I didnt know what was he playing... I was on the play and put (intentionally) a dual land... which he waste... then another land... which he waste.... then he play and island. I play land mox loam and put my engine online... he stifle a couple of fetchlands (which I found just funny) and keep playing until he plays a trinket mage into dreadnought (!!!) I put a Chalice at 1... then he plays another Trinket mage into Engineered Explosives (!!!) but he didnt cast it (I think he was affraid of Abrupt decay?) so next turn I play another Chalice at 0... land a KOTR and win....

-2 Devastaing Dreams -3 Punishing Fire -1 KOTR +2 thoughtseize +3 Thalia +1 Canonist

Game 2 was preeeeeetty long and at some point he had 4 basic lands 1 Counterbalance 1 Senseis Divining Top and a Relic of Progenitus. I have a KOTR and a Canonist on play. He has only 1 land untapped.... so I activated my KOTR for grove.... generate 1 R (giving him a life) and I triggered the Punishing Fire.... he tapped his last land and took my GY away... Now I play a Thoughtseize (R floating), he drew a card with the top and countered it with CB... now I generate with my last land and put a Chalice at 1. Im in pretty good shape now! I took him down to 4 (at some point I attacked with my Canonist and got blocked with a Snapcaster). He landed a Elspeth and started chump blocking my KOTR (he needs trample! hahaha) Im pretty pissed because I dredge almost my entire deck and didnt find any punishing fire and I was drawing 1-2 cards by turn... or even a decay to take down that single token... Finally... He got a clique, snapcaster at the of the turn... beating me for 6 everyturn and I lost!

Game 3 I kept a hand with Thoughtseize and Bob... I took away his Swords to Plowshares. I play Bob turn 2.... Wasteland turn 3 and attacked him. Turn 4 I play a Thalia (keeping him out of Jace) and finally KOTR fetching for wasteland and beating him with 4 man power. GG.

Round 5 (Intentional draw) Mono U omnitell

He was 4-0 and I was 3-0-1. He entered first with 13 points and me with 11... the rest almost with 10 points and one guy with 9.

Top8: Omnitell, 2 elves, 1 RUG, 1 BW blade, 1 BUG, 1 Aggro Loam, 1 Burn.

Quarters: BW Blade

I won the dice. I kept a pretty strong hand.

T1 I cast a chalice at 1 with mox diamond and wasteland. He plays a plains and pass... Turn 2 I cast a Dark Confidant and a wooded foothills, he plays a T2 scrubland into confidant too. T3 I attack with my Bobs (I had a second copy in my hand) and he didnt block. On his turn, he revealed a 2nd Bob and miss his land drop... he attacks with his Dark confidant and I fetch a dryad arbor with my wooded foothills taking down his bob. I cast a KOTR and take the game.

SB -1 Bob -1 KOTR -1 Gaddock Teeg +3 Thoughtseize

He plays a turn 1 Inquisition of Kozilek... I revealed a hand with 4 lands, 1 KOTR, 2 Thoughtseize. He took a thoughtseize (now I know he has a removal for my KOTR). I cast my Thoughtseize (he had a second land, jitte, thalia, stoneforge, abrupt decay) I took the stoneforge mystic knowing he would Thalia-block himself probably and I had a karakas on my hand. T2 he plays the thalia... I wastelanded his scrublands and took 4 damage from thalia... then he cast a DRS... in that turn I bounce the Thalia, play 2 mox diamond and life from the loam instantly (first time I play LFTL in this game) but it gave me a lot of value. he took away my life from the loam and cast the thalia again. In this turn I cast KOTR + Dreams for 2 and won 2 turns later.

Semi-finals: Elves (from the first round)

First game was pretty tight, but he missplay on T4... he attacks me with 2 sentinels (leaving me at 15) and then proceed to play a Visionary into Heritage druid and started to combo! I suppose he started to combo off because of my punishing fires... well, he was making a ton of mana with 3 sentinels + heritage druid... GSZ into wirewood... etc etc, but he already attacked this turn! (I even told him how greedy that attack was... attacking me for 4 isnt going to win that game...). He passes the turn and I cast devastating dreams... but I also missplay haha he had 3 lands (1 dual, 1 cradle, 1 forest). I cast DD for 2 (because I had a wasteland for his cradle) and gave him priority... it resolves and he sac the 2 non basic lands... I couldnt believe I forgot to wasteland first! :( the only reason why I did dreams for 2.... haha

Sb (same sb as r1 and r3)

Game two he started with a fyndhorn elve and pass... I play a fetchland and pass... he makes a lot of elves shenaningans and pass... cycle at his EOT. I drew a Gaddock teeg and cast it on T2... i felt pretty confortable now (I have Burning Wish in my hand). He plays a Gaea's Cradle, generates a ton of mana and I thought he was trying to GSZ into something but I had my teeg out... no shit! hard cast craterhoof and GG for me (he attacked for 30+).

Game 3

I got Punishing Fire engine and an early KOTR attacking him in a clock 3. He was sad about his missplay on game 1, but he had a very good attitude and I know he's a good player.

Finals: Mono U omnitell

At this point, the place was closing... it was almost 10 pm.... and we had to play the finals at the store (about a 20-25 mins ride on subway or car). We decided to split the prize and everyone can go home early.

I know this Omnitell player since 2003, so I was more than glad to split with him. We even play some casual matches between the tournament. I won the casual match but I know his deck just wrecks mine...

The deck performance was pretty insane. The only changes I made from the last tournament was taking out my Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale I used to play for the second Taiga (Im playing 27 lands). Tabernacle has been pretty good but it doesnt help on the opening hands were I had hands with a lot of wastelands, cycles, nantuko or maze of ith making me mull pretty oftenly.

I took out the Slaughter Games on this tournament and put Massacre since everyone says it's so great and I saw a lot of W/x decks (patriot, some blades, death n taxes, and even elves were playing savannahs!). But I never cast a SINGLE burning wish for it in the entire tournament.

Other thoughts:

-Elves deck is insane... even to the last moment when I had everything under control with Punishing Fire... he could cast 8-10 creatures without problem in just one turn. I need to test harder this match up.
-I was a pussy against monoU omnitell haha but the draws were very tempting in both cases.
-I didnt have the pleasure of playing Massacre
-Thoughtseize is just great on the draw giving me curve 1 and dont being two turns late
-I will never forget to wasteland the lands before giving priority...
-The judge was pretty lazy... he was looking the GPT all the time and everytime he was needed he show up late.

Hello Jess!
As a former Loam pilot, I read the report with much interest! Thank you for it, and congrats on your finish. Out of curiosity: what were the prizes? Also, small high five from Bohemia for defeating the R3 Elven Dude.
Shame that KotR doesn't have trample. Why no love for one Terravore? It doesn't do enough, am I right?

I really love Terravore (but just as a 1-of)... but KOTR has almost the same functions... doesnt die against GY hate and has its own broken hability (fixs mana curve, gets wastelands, maze, groves... gets fetchs if you have sylvan library or fetchs dryad arbor against lilianas)

The prizes were 2 FTV for the top4... tournaments here are really cheap (the most expensive is 20USD) so it's impossible to get enough value for them.

Are you playing the 4C version or Jund loam?

Yep, Vore is only good in combat and it dies to RiP.
I don't play Loam anymore. After the recent prints of pretty powerful gy hate (like RiP, but also Relic and such) I shied away from playing graveyard based/dependant decks, with only a Dredge (due its speed) been the only exception.
But I still can appreciate a well built and played Loam.dec.
I played only the RGBw version (though I played GW Terrageddon with Confinement), because I liked the stability of three-colors base, and also because I stopped to play AggroLoam before the release of KotR. (Thus my only white splash was Monastery and sb/BW Morningtide).
