No one has shown any interest yet? I'm beginning to wonder if Goyfs is good enough.
Let's get some action on this thread!!!

Would anyone be interested in a modern side event running along side standard a an option. Our local players prefer standard but any interest will yield a second side event. Let us know!!!

· I'm afraid the east coast Legacy scene isn't what it once was :(. Have you tried posting this elsewhere as well? Gotta take all the free advertising you can get.
· Your payout doesn't make much sense, 2nd gets the same as 4th? I would bet 1st and 2nd place would attempt a split. If you really want to keep the Goyfs(you probably don't) then you could leave it that way.
· I can only speak for myself here, but it would be a two hour trip for me to make it there and the event might not even fire. That would be the worst. How much interest are your locals showing in this event?
Also, this is the weekend before the Grand Prix in Washington DC. That could definitely decrease your attendance since magic players aren't the richest bunch. I know I'm going to be pinching pennies to even make the GP and a few trials.
EDIT- Maybe consult with the other shops you mentioned you've visited and offer mutual advertisement? I think it could be a good idea to work with other shops, that way you can all fire off successful decent sized events.

Hey Hammafist.
I agree with some points on your reply. However I assure this tourney will launch. The store owner requires the disclaimer but we should have more then enough players.
I'm also working on getting another 50$ in store credit for second place but I need to wait for approval. The issue is how top heavy the prize pool is. A goyf being foil really throws off the math. We are also looking to ensure we prize out top 8.
In regards to the gp being so close. A small group of people who are going to the gp actually heard about it and thought it was an excellent chance to practice without having to deal with the mtgo or cockatrice community.
In other words this tournament is evolving more and more each day. The original thread here was a primer but now we continue to hammer out the details the next revision will likely be the last and final one. I sincerely hope to see you there.

What is the entry-fee?
One technique I see some places have success with is offering pre-registration at the entry-fee you want to get, then bumping on site registration up by five bucks. It's a good way to get a general idea of how many players to expect, and for every person that doesn't pre-reg, the store can basically bank five dollars.
If you had say 35 people pre-registered, it might give other players who are debating on going more incentive to make the trip. Just a thought for ya, seems like it'd be a win win for the store and the players.
EDIT- Ahh, I clicked your facebook link, buyin is 25$,.

I had this idea previously and may implement it soon however it currently is not available due to technology limitations. I mean it's not cash only but players would have to come into the shop to pre register.
The only way I could launch this faster would be via paypal and I feel it's a little unprofessional. However I could be wrong.
Thoughts?

Maybe you don't have to collect money to preregister folks. Just use it more as a guide to let people know how many heads you're expecting to show. When someone shows up, you check if they're on your list, if they are, cool $25 please. If not, no big deal, $30 please.

I'm glad that I checked the tournament section as I almost never look here. I'm thinking of making the trip down for this tournament, and I might be able to get another couple players from my store in Lebanon, NH to come as well. My store had to drop Legacy tournaments due to low attendance, but there are a few die-hards that should be up for this.

Sorry if I missed this, but why a minimum to launch? Seems like that could deter people coming from a distance. Wouldnt it be safer to guarantee prizes at a certain attendance, with the understanding that it gets cut back under that number?
I'd love to come play, but a potential no-go is a strong disincentive to make the trip.

The store owner is not interested in a scaling prize support however I will tell you this event is launching! We have nearly 30 people rsvp'd and would love even more! We can easily hold up to 70 people, so tell your friends!

Definitely coming with 3 from CT. Foil goyf and plentiful FTVs make this a must-attend event for anyone in New England.
The store owner not scaling prize for a much larger turnout is complete crap though. I can respect a minimum attendance, since no store wants to have their respectability threatened by having to post up a large payout with low entry, but posting a minimum attendance while still being willing to rake in 70x$25 entry for the same prize as taking in 24*$25 is ridiculous as well.
I'm still going, but if the intent of this store is to drum up interest rather than hold a one-time event, I would consider the OPTION of expanding prize support to scale with larger attendance than simply 30.

Prizes are scaled down to 8th at 30 from there all money put in is distribute down through top 8. The prize does scale it just requires 30 players then it scales from there through top 8. The tournament is to generate interest. My apologies if this was not clear. I'm a new TO and this is actually my first tournament. Hopefully it will be very successful. We have nearly 40 players attending by my count and that alone should make for a great day!
Please label yourself as attending on the Facebook event so we can setup tables after FNM the night before it's always great to have walkins but we want to ensure we can provide the best possible layout for both our judge and the players. I hate playing in a sardine can and I'm sure most of you do too!!!

Last call legacy mages. This tournament launches in 19 hours and 10 minutes. Our current head count is in the high 30's low 40's. We would love all of you on the fence to make it out and and battle for the Goyfs we got!
With a good showing this will likely evolve into a dual land tournament! We hope to see all you players on a more regular basis, and hopefully revitalize the legacy scene in these parts.
For those close to the store who would be interested in playing weekly for store credit let a staff member know!

Any links to Top 8 results?
Any links to Top 8 results?
I didn't pay attention to one of the quarter final matches but the top 8 looked like this:
Elves
RUG Delver (Dan Craumer)
Sneak Attack (me)
Affinity (I think the player called it goodfinity, and he's a sourcer as well)
A tax rack control deck
Maverick (Tom Croan)
RUG Delver
Unknown to me
Both delver decks made it to the finals, Dan Craumer won the event
Sorry to the guys I don't recall names and the 8th player who's deck I don't recall (you may have been a higher seed as well, I just can't remember)

Seems like there is some decent interest in Legacy here.
So... when does the weekly legacy event start? :)

Whenever you guys want it too. We launch drafts on Tuesdays and the other guys who typically show up play legacy. So if we get some interest on Tuesdays, let's say around 6pm we can try an get some of our players to show up.
