Having seen the recent Legacy Opens and their decklists, do people think that, at least for a US meta, maindecked Pyrostatic Pillar is a good metagame call?

When exactly was Pyrostatic Pillar good enough to be maindecked?

And what deck would utilize it?

And what deck would utilize it?

I'm not arguing that it was good maindeck (although it was good enough for some decks to slow down combo (due to the interaction between Vial and Pillar). What I'm asking is, is it good enough as a supplement to other damage sources to be maindeck material? My reasoning is that it catches a lot of the top-tier decks in its wake (for example, Delver decks catch some considerable hate from Pillar, as the entire deck outside of Force costs 3 or less.)

AS to what deck would play it, I would guess it would be a secondary wincon or backup reach in an aggressive Red deck or a RG mana denial deck,

This deck took 3rd out of 143 earlier this year and ran Pyrostatic Pillar. I'm not sure it's a dominant card to build a deck around, but I think it adds utility to aggressive red decks potentially to top their curve off. The only problem is that aggressive red decks aren't the strongest decks in the first place...

Maybe, but it depends on your target and the deck behind it. I can't speak for other decks, but I've seen it brought in against my midrange deck a fair few times (usually by burn or an RG-beatz type of deck), and it's not really worked in my opponent's favour--usually because as long as I stick a big beater on the table the race becomes pretty uneven, and my counterspells still save me life (FoW doesn't trigger it, and Spell Pierce/Daze still save you one life)--especially since my opponent's burn costs her life as well, now.

It might be a good option against storm combo. I'm not sure it really has much effect on most control or aggro-control in the formal at the moment, however.

RW Stax with maindeck: Pyrostatic Pillar, Trinisphere, Blood Moon, and Ankh of Mishra. Because if you're going to play Magic, it should hurt and cost you.

When was Pyrostatic Pillar good? It just forces combo players to deal with it in the least number of moves, which is virtually never a challenge.

It has the same problems as every Red punisher effect; it doesn't make anything actually stop happening. A surprising number of effects are worth 2 life in addition to their actual cost.

Especially if they win the game

Pyrostatic Pillar is only good if you are otherwise aggressive. If you're playing UWR Miracles, Omni-Tell or Storm may have to take 10 damage to deal with it or play through it, but they still have 10 life left.
