Identity Theif + Progenitus

Sorry if Identity Nemesis is the wrong name.

They asked this over at Salvation but I felt the question was glossed over.

Now that Identity Theif Exists and we have stuff like enchant player even, does that mean Progenitus has protection from players? If not, why wouldn't a player fall under the umbrella of everything? Consider that a player can be targeted, etc.

Thoughts appreciated.

Progenitus has protection from everything, so yes, it has protection from both players. The card's name is Identity Nemesis, and Progenitus can only be killed by the opponent in the same ways Identity Nemesis can.

Progenitus has always had protection from players. Specifically, it cannot be blocked, damaged or targetted by anything, and it can't have anything attached to it.

It's kind of irrelevant, because any effect that you name is going to have other properties that you can simply say "Prog had prot from that". Even before the concept of protection from players existed, it had protection from anything you can put in that category.

When I first read "Protection from everything," I took this to mean "Protection from every card and token," and I suspect that this is how it was interpreted by many. Now, since anything a player controls is always a card (or a token or perhaps a copy of a card, but that still has the same name as the original), progenitus would already be protected from it by the initial interpretation of "Protection from everything" that I just mentioned. As such, I don't believe that considering the concept of "Protection from Players" adds anything new, though technically I guess Progenitus does have this protection.
