Hello gentlemen. I just purchased a city of traitors on ebay and I am pretty sure I have in my hands a FAKE card. I have performed the BEND- TEST and the card passed. However, when I inspect the dots on the back and front of the card they seem... different from other exodus cards. Also, the color of the borders of the "fake" card are darker than my other exodus cards. I would provide you with a high resolution scan to see for yourselves but I don't know how. Please, help!

its incredibly unlikely someone would fake a city of traitors. If it passed the bend test thats a good indication of a real card. There are other tests such as the light test you can use. Shine a flashlight through the card and compare how much light passes through the card compared to others.

It's incredible unlikely for someone to fake a black lotus i would say, unless the fake is identical to the real. It's far more possible to get away having sold a $30 card than a $1000 card. Which one is more likely to be thoroughly inspected? My guess would be...the expensive one. It's not that this city of traitors is exactly the same with the real exodus cards.

1.If you have a smart phone. turn on your camera light and hold it very close to the card. You should be looking for even distribution of blue glue.
2. Feel the edges for any cutting unsmooth spots.
3. Compare the thickness to other cards. you can use and electric micrometer for this as well.
4 Got an electric scale? weight it compared to other cards.
5.smell it as well.
My question is what made you test it? Who was the seller?

If someone was capable of making a City of Traitors that was good enough looking that it could pass as a real card they could make Black Lotuses and sell that AS FAKE and still expect to get more than $30. I mean people were selling admittedly fake foil Jaces for serious bank before WotC made Ebay clamp down on that. So I'm gonna say that is a pretty poor interpretation of the situation.

Remeber that even among modern cards there are color variations, I have even pulled cards during drafts etc with slightly blurred text, slightly darker/lighter boarders etc. The printing of cards is not a perfect thing, colors run low or even off a touch between batches.
PEOPLE STOP BEND TESTING CARDS.
The bend test is to check for rebacked CE cards pretty much any other good fake when new can pass it. Also I have seen real cards especially older ones fail the bend test, keep in mind the paper breaks down after 20+ years of shuffling etc.

Oh yes I was really afraid to do it! The thing is that the new card seems odd and I had to do something. Can you please help me with the uploading of the images? I have quite a good scan to show you but don't know how to upload it. I have never done it before.

Get a free online photo album account on a site such as Picasa, then use the "[img]" (stuff between the quotes) to embed the picture in a post.
If you need some other ways to identify fake cards, read this article:

PEOPLE STOP BEND TESTING CARDS.
This times a million. If you end up with a bent card, it doesn't really matter whether the card was real or fake.
