This will be a much shorter report because I am very busy right now. As well I'm writing it 2 weekends later so I won't remember as much:
Round 1 vs RUG
They start out both games with Wild Mongoose, but without threshold too early, I get a lot of time to draw more and more business & get more lands into play over turns. End result, win in 2.
Round 2 vs Sneak & Show
Turnabout at the end of their turn choosing artifacts (Lotus Petals) to prevent them from casting opposing counterspells before going off. Their lands were tapped out. Game 2 they are stuck on 2 Volcanic Islands for turn after turn after turn. End result, win in 2
Round 3 vs Sneak & Show
Game 1 is a win, nothing stands out. Game 2 they get to the point of resolving a Show and Tell, putting in an Emrakul as I put in nothing. Then I get that final turn & combo off accordingly for the win. End result, win in 2
Round 4 vs RWU Delver
Game 1 is a loss, they flip 2 Delvers from the beginning & have the counters to back up preventing me from going off. Game's 2 & 3 however are a win, they also mulliganed game 2. End result, win in 3
Round 5 vs RUG
Game 1 is a loss, Game 2 is a loss. My first loss & I don't even net a game off them, behold the power of RUG. Other notes, from game 2: Tide, Merchant Scroll, Candel activate, Stifle, Force of Will, Daze, Flusterstorm, Flusterstorm (back and forth counter war, not sure how scroll fit's into it though) End result, loss in 2
Round 6 vs Elves
Game 1 is a win, Game 2 is a loss, Game 3 is a win. They also mulliganed game 3. Got out a Grafdigger's Cage game 3. End result, win in 3
Round 7 vs Maverick
They mulligan to 5 game 1. They start resolving some relevant stuff (Gaddock Teeg) & I wait it out as long as possible, but get to the point of having to counter another hate bear, long story short I actually get locked out and it's a loss. Game 2, is largely similar to game 1. End result, loss in 2
Round 8 vs Jund
Game 1 is a win. Game 2 is a loss, first mid combo fizzle of the night, they also mulliganed 1 time. Game 3 is a loss. End result, loss in 3
Round 9 vs Belcher
Game 1 is a win, they mulliganed once. Game 2 is a loss after mulliganing down to 4 to try and net a force of will. Game 3 is a win after a very long 3rd game. I kept a no lander but it had 2 force of will, as well as some 1 cast stuff like flusterstorm & card draw. But since they can never go off through my blue spells, I eventually get to the point of comboing. But AGAIN, now the 2nd fizzle of the night. Since the fizzle nets me more counter magic however, I just combo off again a number of turns later. Very long game against Belcher, as we finish with like 3 minutes on the clock.
End result, 6 wins, 3 losses, 33rd place of 281 players.
I will continue to push High Tide at the Open series, however as I said I am busy right now which is why this report is short. Originally I was going to go to SCG Dallas the weekend after LA, & I was going to hit Oakland & Vegas in December for those SCG events, however I am now looking at stuff for 2014 as I have to basically, take the rest of the year "off" from the Open Series. I will be "moving" from the pacific northwest, and residing in the Midwest for a while, so stuff like SCG Columbus, SCG Indianapolis, SCG Baltimore in January & beyond are now what I'm looking at for my next events.
~Until the next one, Feline Longmore, you know where to find me.
