I decided to take my hand at brewing a midrange deck to combat the metagame from a bizarre angle, the deck utilizes value flash and enters the battlefield creatures with blink effects to generate both card advantage and stall the board.
I always wanted to take a stab at making Venser, The Sojourner playable in legacy
The deck feels like it should not be winning as much as it is, flash creatures are very strong and the synergies within the deck allow you to come back when you are quite far behind
4 Plains
3 Flooded Strand
1 Venser, Shaper Savant
2 Force of Will
1 Flickerwisp
2 Venser, the Sojourner
1 Tundra
4 Island
2 Spellstutter Sprite
1 Force of Will
1 Oblivion Ring
2 Ponder
3 Mulldrifter
2 Arid Mesa
2 Vendilion Clique
1 Fiend Hunter
1 Celestial Flare
2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
1 Spellstutter Sprite
1 Island
3 Restoration Angel
2 Swords to Plowshares
2 Snapcaster Mage
1 Wall of Omens
2 Swords to Plowshares
1 Phyrexian Revoker
1 Karakas
2 Scalding Tarn
1 Cavern of Souls
1 Glen Elendra Archmage
3 Brainstorm
1 Brainstorm
2 Mutavault
1 Glacial Fortress
Sideboard
1 Detention Sphere
1 Ethersworn Canonist
1 Force of Will
2 Meddling Mage
1 Counterspell
1 Leonin Relic-Warder
1 Celestial Flare
2 Rest in Peace
1 Oblivion Ring
1 Moat
1 Phyrexian Revoker
2 Spell Pierce
One of the keys to the deck was determining how to best utilize the blink effects, Venser is quite powerful in this deck he has won games on his own by giving my creatures pseudo-vigilance and generating extra value.
Some of the key cards in the deck are:
Restoration Angel: Your win condition most of the time, it does everything the deck wants comes into play when you desire, generates extra value, and counters removal. Resto also is immune to Abrupt Decay and doesn't die to bolt as well as blocks almost every flyer that sees play right now.
Mulldrifter: This is the card that puts you ahead when hardcast and catches you up when you're behind, the fact that it can't get Pierced is very relevant and with resto you can 5UW to draw 4 and add 5 power of flyers to the board.
Spellstutter Sprite: Replaced Spell Pierce and I have little regrets it works well in the deck with the hidden Fae synergies and like Mulldrifter can't get Pierced or Flusterstorm, with Cavern it is essentially Last Word on a creature
Venser, The Sojourner: The main focus of the deck originally and your top end, most of time in this deck he is better than Jace because you can blink Clique, Venser, Resto, or some other value creature, and his -1 is relevant when the board is extremely stalled out
