So there's a bunch of Magic cards having to do with discard and controlling the enemy's topdeck that seem really fun but no one plays with because they are bad. I was recently inspired to try to see if you could make a halfway decent legacy deck using those crazy cards. Here's my first attempt:
Topdeck Control (12)
--------------------
2 Field of Dreams
3 Lantern of Insight
2 Shrieking Sliver
3 Codex Shredder
2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Discard (11)
----------------------
4 Thoughtseize
1 Raven’s Crime
4 Chain of Smog
3 Mind Swords
Removal (8)
------------------
2 Darkblast
3 Diabolic Edict
3 Funeral Charm
Dorks (7)
----------------------
4 Snapcaster Mage
3 Vendilion Clique
Mana (22)
----------------------
4 Polluted Delta
4 Underground Sea
3 Creeping Tar Pit
4 Wasteland
4 Swamp
3 Island
The concept here is that you open with either removal for their dork or with a topdeck viewer. From there, you hit everyone's hands hard and try to get everyone into topdeck mode as quickly as you can. From there, you control their topdeck until you win. Jace and Clique supplement the topdeck control theme while being potential finishers. Snapcaster lets you recycle removal or discard to get around draw spells. I particularly like the idea of Funeral Charming a lackey or something and then recycling it as a draw-step discard spell in late game.
Anyone tried this? I'm sure the list could be made much better.
