I was playing a tournament yesterday playing stoneblade and I faced against 2 ensnaring bridges throughout the day. It suddenly dawned upon me that bridge is really quite amazing in the current metagame. With the decline of shardless and jund (to a degree) along with the rise of midrange blade decks, bridge can provide a very potent lock piece. In one game against UB tezz, bridge bought him enough time to stabilize and win the game.
I considered playing UB tezz, but I dont like how inconsistent the deck can be. However, I took a few elements of it and adapted it to a bug shell. This is a list I basically just threw together with minimal testing:
2x Engineered Explosives
3x Ensnaring Bridge
3x Sensei's Divining Top
1x Sword of the Meek
2x Thopter Foundry
3X Baleful Strix
4x Abrupt Decay
4x Brainstorm
2x Disfigure
3x Force of Will
2x Thoughtseize
1x Life from the Loam
1x Intuition
3x Liliana of the Veil
3x Jace, the Mindsculptor
1x Tezzeret the Seeker
2x Academy Ruins
2x Wasteland
4x Polluted Delta
3x Verdant Catacombs
2x Misty Rainforest
3x Underground Sea
2x Tropical Island
2x Bayou
1x Forest
1x Swamp
1x Island
The deck is aimed to win the fair matchups preboard. I'm unsure about the 2x thoughtseizes for now--they could be counterbalance, but the deck already has a lot of 2 drops and ts is good against all of the sfm decks that are running around right now. Disfigure could potentially be traded out for innocent blood for a little more tnn hate, but the bridges are quite good at shutting down tnn/skull.
So this deck looks a lot like a bug control/bug still variant and that's where I actually started from. The reason I think that this is better than those two decks is that the manabase is better than bug still because there are less colorless sources. This deck also has a lot less reliance on the graveyard compared to shardless bug and bug control (no goyf/shaman/snapcaster).
Tezzeret the seeker is a lil tech i picked up from Joe Losset's UB tezz list when I played him yesterday. It lets you find both pieces of thopter foundry if they don't have an answer to it to just close out the game. The intuition might be too cute, but I like that it finds the missing thopter/sword piece or wasteland/loam/ruins in the long game. I think 1 is the max I would run--2 would just be too clunky. 3 mana is a lot of mana without any direct board interaction.
Any ideas/suggestions/comments?
