Kinda wanting to get back into mtg/legacy was wondering if there was a LGS in the Houston area that does weeklies?
Messages Asgard games the other day but no reply yet - would love to dive in head first but only if there is a community

Asgard does have a pretty good Legacy crowd (the forums there are kind of dead for MTG though).
We do two Legacy tournaments a week, one on Thursdays @ 7:00 PM, one on Saturdays @ 1:00 PM.
Both are $10 entry fee, but the entry fees for the tournament all go back into a pool of store credit for the winners (so if we have 10 players, it's $100 store credit for the prize). Asgard also does let you save store credit (you can't use it for tournament entry fees), which is nice.
Typically we'll get 10-20 players per tournament.

That sounds pretty ideal, I might have to swing by saturday to check it out. What is the Meta like? Are there a lot of homebrews or is it fairy competitive or an even mix?

I'd say it's mostly competitive (your RUGs, Reanimator, Storm, Elves, Stoneblade, Junk, etc.) with a smattering of more budget brews. The selection of things to buy with your store credit as far as staples go is pretty limited last time I was there (December) though.

I'd say fairly competitive as well. Most players here have pretty good collections and can usually build at least a few decks at any given time. Of course, this is Legacy, so there are always people playing homebrews and experimenting with ideas as well.
Sadly, yes the case can be a little sparse since whenever they get a collection in, it always gets mobbed by players. :)
On the other hand, many players also have extra stuff in their trade binders and most are willing to take store credit as well if a trade can't be worked out.

You'll also see the MTG Hipsters of the place (both me and Esper for example) play random jank when we get bored or our current deck becomes too mainstream, i.e. I took Aluren for a few spins not too long ago.

On another note, would it be more economical to buy staples off regulars or just keep trawling the 'bay?

If you're paying cash, probably eBay still.

If you do well in tourneys (usually top 4 splits) some will trade in store credit (your allowed to save up credit), so there is that
