The Europeans Take Over
In episode 17 of EverydayEternal, Grand Prix Paris semifinalist Philipp Schönegger and Bazaar of Moxen 2013 champion Julian Knab chat with Matt and Jacob about their experiences at Grand Prix Paris.
We jump around a bit, but the main focus for today is the specific choices made in Philipp’s Miracles decklist. Julian and Phillip also regale us of several stories of interesting and tight play from throughout the weekend. Philipp ensures us he’ll be playing in the next prerelease.
0:01:12: Why Miracles? Deck and card selection
0:12:17: Interesting tales from Paris
0:20:56: Miracles sideboard
0:23:15: Philipp and Julian’s alters
0:28:54: Julian’s side event report
0:35:56: Payout at the GP and preparations for the Pro Tour
0:44:19: Miracles’ bad matchups
0:47:52: Julian’s experiences in the main event
1:02:24: Outro

Another great episode! You guys had some good stories and some good laughs.
I especially liked hearing the European accents. I wonder if people like hearing American accents?...Probably not.
Good luck at the Pro Tour, Philipp! Those prerelease kids better watch out.

Fantastic episode, really enjoyed it. There was a ton of solid, quality content, but it was presented in a relaxed and interesting way. This is definitely one of the best EE episodes.
I'd love to see Everyday Eternal become a bi-weekly podcast that alternates between North America and EU. Having listened to Julian on 2 episodes now, I find he has a fantastic "radio" personality and would make a great host for an "Everyday Eternal Europe" cast. *wink wink, nudge nudge*

I have to agree with the posts above, this was one of my favorite episodes. Everyone brought a different personality, style, etc. to the cast, but all had a great sense of humor.
Great episode guys, very enjoyable.

It would be really cool to see how a European would prepare for an American metagame and vice versa. I'm sure there would be interesting conversation as I'm sure the thought-process behind sideboard options would be different.
As E.E. it's roughly a monthly podcast, it would be interesting to have a standard segment about what the monthly Deck to Beat or the top 3 Decks to Beat are (similar to how Brainstorm Brewery has a "Pick of the Week"). It wouldn't need to take up a significant portion of the cast, but 5-7 minutes discussing the reasons why a particular deck is well-positioned would be nice.

I would also be interested to hear more European perspectives every now and then from high profile European players like Julian and Phillip. I thoroughly enjoyed both their discussion of legacy strategy and their reports on their experiences at GP Paris.

Thanks, guys! I am glad you enjoyed it! It was a blast to record, aswell :)
If they'd have me again I'd gladly join for another episode or two!

It is good to hear European accents in a podcast like this especially if they are talking about Miracles

So twice now I've heard that Gaddock Teeg and Krosan Grip are awesome in the metagame - why is no one mentioning Maverick afterwards?

Because neither of those two cards can interact with TNN. In fact, nothing outside of Mother of Runes interacts well with TNN form Maverick. Stupid TNN...

As I don't want to derail this, could you PM me any possible solutions you may have considered (for maverick)?

Because you need to have a threat density that really sucks to get Terminus'd away. The creature base really only becomes good when you've got Knight, something to protect Knight, Noble, etc. Each creature in itself is not necessarily something that needs to be answered, unlike the other decks. That's why you'll notice Dark Maverick/Junk doing a bit better.
