My reanimator deck uses the Necrotic Ooze combo to win the game. For those unfamiliar, a Necrotic Ooze on the battlefield is lethal if Phyrexian Devourer and Triskelion are in the graveyard. Plan A is to cast Buried Alive for those 3 creatures and then Reanimate Necrotic Ooze. Plan B is...well that is where I need your help. Necrotic Ooze is kind of a reanimation spell of it's own, seeing as how it gets the activated abilities of the creatures in the graveyard. For example, I use Avatar of Woe so my Ooze can gun down other creatures. What are some other creatures with really powerful activated abilities (budget - so no Griselbrand)? They can be any color or casting cost, as long as the ability isn't expensive or use non-black mana. Also, I am splashing blue for Careful Study. I will go back to mono black once I get Entomb.

This deck can win on turn one with double Dark Ritual, Buried Alive, and Reanimate/Exhume.

Pitch 12
4 Buried Alive
4 Careful Study
4 Putrid Imp

Reanimator 8
4 Reanimate
4 Exhume

Win condition 10
1 Triskelion
1 Phyrexian Devourer
4 Necrotic Ooze
4 Avatar of Woe

Protection 4
4 Duress

Acceleration 4
4 Dark Ritual

Lands 22
4 Underground River
4 River of Tears
13 Swamp
1 Island

I jammed in the 4 Avatar of Woe so I could begin testing. I would like to have other creatures with sweet abilities that Necrotic Ooze can take. Any suggestions (besides Griselbrand)? Some possibilities are Arcanis the Omnipotent, Magus of the Jar, and Godsire. Plus, how is my ratio of spells (lands vs. acceleration vs. pitch cards vs. reanimation spells vs. win cons)? I am new to reanamator so any advice would be helpful. I think I need a higher land count then most reanimator decks because I want to be able to hard cast Necrotic Ooze if needed.

So to sum things up: I am going to get ENTOMB and THOUGHSEIZE in due time. I will also go mono black to fix the mana base. I am mostly just looking for creatures with sweet activated abilities that Necrotic Ooze can use. Thanks for your time!

Sorry I forgot how to do card tags and deck tags.

IMO if you want to play budget Reanimator combo fueled by Buried Alive, you should play

Dark Ritual
Lotus Petal
Peat Bog

Just go all-in on mana production. Makes it easier to cast T1 or T2 Buried Alive.

Also, since you're JUST playing blue for Careful Study (and cant afford the proper manabase for good blue mana production or Force of Will or Show and Tell), why even play blue? Careful Study works when you're playing 10 fatty.dec and can just dig+pitch. It's bad with fewer fatties and/or combo builds.

Example deck:

//24 mana sources:
4 Dark Ritual
4 Lotus Petal
4 Peat Bog
12 Swamp

//8 protection:
4 Duress
4 Cabal Therapy

//8 bin cards (Cabal also works):
4 Putrid Imp
4 Buried Alive

//8 reanimation:
4 Reanimate
4 Exhume

//12 fatty
3 Necrotic Ooze
Phyrexian Devourer
Triskelion
4 Griselbrand
2 Iona, Shield of Emeria
1 Ashen Rider

//15 sideboard:
4 Leyline of the Void
Blazing Archon
Sphinx of the Steel Wind
Terastodon
4 Ratchet Bomb
4 Pithing Needle

If you can't afford Griselbrand, Jin-Gitaxias is a non-awful alternative. Nice thing here is that you can bin Griselbrand and a hardcast Ooze can still draw you cards even if a reanimation spell gets countered.

No love for Pack Rat? My god if there was ever a deck for Pack Rat, this would be it!

I know you are aiming at building a budget list but if you look for ideas/development take also a look at the Oozing thread. There is one year of development of a similar deck that you could take advantage of.

Is Shallow Grave outside your budget? If not, I would recommend testing it as a great way to beat graveyard hate like Tormod's Crypt, Relic of Progenitus, Deathrite Shaman, and Surgical Extraction. Just use a sorcery speed reanimation spell on your Ooze, and in response to their hate being activated, Shallow Grave.

Also, 4 Lotus Petal and 1 Chrome Mox are great accelerators, if they are within your budget.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am in the middle of testing this:

4 Necrotic Ooze
4 Putrid Imp
1 Triskelion
1 Phyrexian Devourer
2 Avatar of Woe
1 Godsire
1 Arcanis the Omnipotent

4 Buried Alive
4 Reanimate
4 Exhume

4 Cabal Therapy
4 Duress

4 Dark Ritual
4 Lotus Petal
2 Chrome Mox
16 Swamp

I think this deck would cost about 30 tix on MTGO. It is pretty powerful for such a low price. Griselbrand would help, but he costs more than all the rest of the deck combined!

Lol Kobe, I should try Pack Rat. That would be hilarious! I am going to wait until he comes down in price though...definitely not worth 3 tix or whatever. Any other suggestions on creatures with sweet activated abilities is appreciated. That is kind of the theme I am going for at the moment. At the vary least, I want to replace one Avatar of Woe with something more exciting...

Thanks again for your help. Good luck with the Oozing deck. It seems really cool; hopefully I will get to try it out one day. I guess my cheapo version will do for now.

If you are playing a lot on MTGO the Foil Graveborn Entombs are only about 4 tix a piece. I highly reccomend getting them. Also if you are willing to splash a second color but are unable to afford Forces. I highly suggest red as your second color. The duels and fetches are cheaper and you gain access to Pyro/REB for more protection, Faithless looting as careful study+, And Lightning bolt for pesky Deathrites and Thailias and such. You can also play an anger to give your dudes haste. Lastly I suggest 1 Sphynx of the Steel Wind in your SB. If animated early enough temp strategies are just stone dead to it.
