View Full Version : Suicide Burn [Black one-drops]

We have reached a point where a deck could run 32 two power 1 drops in black. The below list is obviously not optimized, but it is intended to experiment with running the maximum number of black 2 power 1 drops. The only other cards in the deck are DRS which is a one mana planeswalker, DC which is the only draw in the deck and dark ritual that lets you throw out 6 power turn 1. Is there any way this deck can be developed or is this a dead end?

Anything is possible in Legacy.

I would jam the following card somewhere:

Chains of Mephistopheles
Bump in the Night
Cursed Scroll
Thoughtseize


Yes, Thoughtseize sounds like a card slowing ourselves down, but it's necessary evil.

So doesn't this just auto lose to combo. Additionally Tarmogoyf is a real problem for this deck as is batterskull. I mean it's cool but I don't think it can be competitive

Bad Moon for sure, maybe lean towards more of a sac deck, running innocent blood and smallpox for control.

Well this deck is supposed to function like suicide black decks of old - all or nothing. In that way just like burn, this is more of a combo deck than an aggro deck. Compared to burn - this deck has a better chance to recover due to DRS and Dark Confidant. That's pretty much it.

Ideal play might look something like this (gold fish)

Turn 1 - Land + Accel + (discard) + one drop + one drop
Turn 2 - Land + one drop + Draw engine (Attack for 4)
Turn 3 - one drop + one drop (Attack for 6)
Turn 4 - (Attack for 10)

The idea now is to decide whether that is even worth it as a goal. . .

(draw engine could be Dark confidant and Blood Scrivener)
(Accel could be Dark ritual and Chrome mox)

On the other hand we can see if stuff like Bad Moon and Hall of Triumph could be added to act as lords.

The problem is if we start adding in creature kill and discard this starts to become another (probably better) deck, like The Gate.

I feel like there are too many lifegain outs (batterskull/Jitte) and wipes/spot removal to really make this deck a thing unless you try to run it more like a prison or pox style deck.

This deck desperately needs Carrion Feeder.

Yes, yes, it's weaker than your 2-power 1-drops. But it dies as easily as any 2/1 (Tormented Hero?) but has the upside of getting decently big on its own and really ridiculous with Gravecrawler. IMO this seems like the easiest way to stay true to the deck without auto-losing to Tarmogoyf.

I think this may be the only viable home for Pain Seer too. You desperately want to draw more cards all the time. More Bobs seems good, especially with all 1cc cards.

Sewer Rats is a great mana dump late game in decks like this one. Could theoretically trade with a small Goyf.

This list desperately needs removal. I've toyed with this concept, you will fail without Snuff Out or a way around threats, one 4/4 blockade or w/e is game over. You won't beat zoo, u won't beat goblins, u won't race combo aka this deck is noob cheese 6-pool level with no backup plan, which is great till u hit Diamond sir :)

This list desperately needs removal. I've been considering the versatility of each card and how often it will be useful even when drawn in multiples. This just seems like a no-brainer to me...
